When I was looking at the Stanton equipment I noticed the points you make. I am thinking with the S- tone arm and the USB interface they may be gearing it towards recording to digital and pretty much they confirm that by bundling it with software for that purpose. I'm not looking to get top notch results because I'm not copying any old Jazz or Classical LP's and my standards aren't as high for *most* Rock. Just guessing, I didn't think I'd get a decent audio interface and phono pre-amp for $300. I don't plan on adding anything to my PC in the form of a decent sound board. I don't normally listen from my computer so it would just be a big drain (money, resources, power, heat) for nothing. It's looking dim right now....
