Stanton make gear for DJs, so it's optimized for specific features, not for sound quality. Now, I fall into that camp so I value things like direct drive, high torque, key lock, pitch control, slipmats, etc - but none of these things help SQ, in fact most hinder it. I'd have though that for $300 you could get a much better belt drive turntable (used?) and add a decent audio interface ($50-$100) for a _much_ better result.
