Thanks Gary. I've now added an albumartist tag to one of the problem albums to test, but it's made no difference. None of the other albums by that artist have that tag - and some are working correctly and others are not.
I can't find the "compilation" tag on MP3tag so I can't check whether that's present. It's not listed as standard nor is it in the extended tags thing. I've also checked that the detail of the artist is consistent, and it is - no typos, extra spaces or anything like that. There are no extra artists for any of the tracks. I wonder whether I'm going through the process correctly. I fired up MP3tag, changed what I needed to change, then re-scanned the squeezebox and looked to see if anything had changed. I didn't close MP3tag, but I did save changes to tags. I tried a bit of a cleanup. I found a typo which meant one artist was shown as 2 (once with the typo, once without). I corrected it in MP3tag; it now shows the tags correctly spelled but has not changed the filename, and after rescanning, the squeezebox still sees the incorrect spelling. I know I'm doing something wrong here, but I can't figure out what.
