Riiight. Come on, recording is just about the only serious advantage you
can find, and that's already fixed.
"Already fixed"? You sound like a computer programmer. Just buy the latest
blimdefloop and install the blatherwitz and you're probably good to go, if it
works and you know how to work it and I haven't forgotten to explain anything
important.
HD-based recorders aren't too expensive these days, and are the most
convenient way to record video.
I listed five serious advantages, one of which really counted as three. DVD
has no _usability_ advantages at all, except for the smaller size of the box
and the ability to seek to certain predefined positions quickly.
What about subtitles, or multiple audio tracks ? Pretty nice to have
around here when you actually want to hear the actor's actual voice and
not the one of the post-synch guy.
As for those 'extras' which you don't like, they've been driving the DVD
market quite heavily, and even though I generally don't bother with
those either, I did see a few very interesting ones.
but DVD players are just too clumsy to
operate
Most of the time you just slide the DVD in and press 'play' repeatedly.
and DVDs too easily destroyed with small kids around.
Easier than a video tape ? I'm surprised none of your kids have figured
out yet how to unwind a tape out of its shell. As far as I'm concerned,
DVDs are *way* easier to care for than tapes, just like CDs against
audio ones.
