I was just pointing that the directory structure does not comply with
the trunk-branches-tags standards.
I suggest to fix this and switch to a standard complient trunk-branches-tags
structure,
because the non-standard structure breaks switching between branches in some
version control systems that support local branching.
Local branching speedens up programming. For example, the benefit of fixing
this
structure would be that I would try to inspect different branches and give
feedback
to the people who are working in different branches.
Lets go back in history a bit. Rosegarden would not be in its current active
state, if
I would not have strongly lobbyed for the KDE3+QT3 -to- QT4 switch. Do you
think
that the QT4 switch had finally no value?
Actually the QT4 switch was only one step forward in making RG available in
more
platforms (first Windows and Mac, later maybe also Mobile platforms -- in
future RG
could be a composing tool in your pocket which you carry always with you).
The project should be ready for further structural changes, otherwise the
project
will just die. If the project would like to have technical superior
programmers,
the project should use the best tools available for programming and the best
structures available to organize the structure of the code, including the
file tree.
There are proven concepts, and this trunk-branches-tags concept is one of
the
proven concepts.
I have two questions to you, Chris II :
(i) Why a non-standard behaviour should not be fixed in long term, even if
it breaks
some features and the standard behaviour would fix the broken features ?
(ii) What do you think of a project whose developers are reluctant to adopt
well-proven and working standards and concepts?
You do not need to answer,

I have tried to be a Code Janitor for some time. It certainly is not a
grateful job,
because in that position it is necessary to show people their flaws and
mistakes.
Can you figure out how I feel, when I point out a flaw, try to raise some
technical
discussion, the discussion stops being technical and rather goes into
personalities?
This discussion list should not be a playground where everybody should say
their
opinions on every subjects. Even if opinion is asked from everybody, rather,
technical superiority and scientific approach should finally overcome
democracy.
