I hadn't noticed that wrinkle. Still, the channel mapping shouldn't have any fundamental impact on this. It's just necessary to tweak things slightly to get to the same end via a slightly different route. I still believe that the mandatory 1:1 instrument:channel correspondence doesn't actually render anything impossible, and it removes a lot of potential for confusion. If you set #2 and #7 both transmitting on channel 3, then which set of programs/banks/controllers is supposed to be in effect on channel 3? Those from #2 or those from #7? The problem with these things not playing anything out of the box is pretty perplexing though, isn't it? What's up with that? I tried checking "[x] Always send controllers at start of playback" and that had no impact one way or the other. I don't understand why these voices are silent initially (in "Bogus Surf Jam" everything except the nylon guitar), and apparently on FluidSynth too. Why? Maybe Julie Swango has some insight. I'm 80% certain I tested one or more of your files when I went through all of this prior to 10.02 coming out. I would have noticed this, because it's extremely obvious. I do remember Julie doing a lot of work to pin down certain behaviors pertaining to controllers and/or program changes, and I think the area she was working in may very well have effected these files. What do we need to do to get them working again out of the box? If I knew, I would have committed updated versions already. I'm completely mystified. -- D.
