OK, I audited every one of our example files and removed any Expression or Modulation controllers that were visible on the IPB. Then I audited every blessed one of our library files, and performed the same surgery on all 150+ of those too. Unfortunately, I had to do all of this work by hand, because there were too many variations among the files to script it. That was painful in the extreme. Because I did it all by hand, it's almost inevitable that I made some mistakes somewhere along the way. Everybody should be on the lookout for broken example files and broken library files, because I don't remotely have the patience to load each and every one of these things into Rosegarden one by one. To make sure you're using the newest versions, you should remove (rm -rf) ~/.local/share/rosegarden to wipe out all the existing versions, so the newest ones will be unpacked in their place. This should solve the weird "I have to warm boot my synth before hearing any noise" problems, and along the way I expect to have fixed the issues with Steve's drum parts too. To recap, we stopped making the Expression and Modulation controllers visible in the IPB quite a long time ago, but dozens of older files carried these controllers, and many of them had Expression set to 0. That was the root of the mystery. I'll release all the newest versions of these things along with the newest translations in a second rosegarden-translations package to supplement 11.02. I probably won't get around to that bit until Thursday though. -- D.
