Excuse me for straying off the original topic, but I could not
resist.
The biggest difference between the SD7 & 9 was internal - the SD7
had 567B engine developing 1,500 HP and the DS9 had the 567C engine
developing 1,750 HP.
The significant generic external spotting difference concerned the
steps - the SD9's had more stair-like steps. Later versions of the
SD9's also had u-section handrails as opposed to the cast handrail
supports found on the SD7's and first versions on the SD9's.
On the SP, the differences between the SD7's & 9's were accented by
paint jobs and light packages. For example, every one of SP's SD7s
was delivered in the tiger strip black and orange "switcher" scheme
and several came with barrel headlights. In contrast, all SP SD9s
were delivered in the classic & elegant black widow scheme and had
(with a few exceptions) a different lighting package.
If your RR had both SD7s & SD9, I would check the historical
references to see if a similar situation existed.
I only have RRM's SD9, and have not looked at RRM's SD7 to see if
there are any differences in the model. I do know that each version
comes with different parts. For example, the parts for the lighting
package for the SP version SD9 (at least the version I model) only
come with the SD7. There may be other differences between the RRM
versions of which I am not aware.
Thanks for your indulgence.
