John, I don't have any measurments with me at work, but most couplers
in the narrow gauge world were smaller than than standard gauge
counterparts. Therefore it very likely that Kadee has gotten a dual
coupler pretty much right when it comes to overall size.

Unfortunately the Sergant coupler can generally only be used by folks
with narrow shelf type layouts unless they run trains without switching
(boring!). They will then be used only by a nitch group among a
minority scale group--not very promising if I was selling product with
the idea of making money.

Because I am a real customer of all the couplers presently being sold
and am only in the "somewhat satified" catagory for all of them, I think
a change is necessary but it need not be a big deal.

I see no reason (except for the initial investment in tooling) why a
coupler couldn't be made to fit both the #5 box and the 802 sized box
thus fitting all our usual sized cars. I don't care if it has the
wisker springs, the #5 leaf spring or something new. I dislike the
little coil spring on the 802's like many of us do. It just needs to
work right when it comes to being self centering and uncoupling with
magnets.

Having a tight lock for modern cars would be an excellent way to sell
more couplers, so I think it would be a win-win thing in the long run.
