Someone referred to a Flyonel Texas Special. Is that an S gauge--albeit
hyrail--production? The Texas Special was a beautiful train, and Flyonel could
crank it out in S. Just musing. I am in scale and won't buy one. Still it
would be quite attractive with ALCO PA units up front, power that the Special
must have had occasionally on the MKT.

Joe,

Was it possible that you were riding MP's Texas Eagle? It ran
St.Louis-San Antonio till Amtrak. Most of that route is still on
Amtrak's Texas Eagle service.

The Texas Special became a Kansas City-San Antonio train on January 5,
1959. The TS, historically a St. Louis to San Antonio train, was jointly
a SLSF/MKT run from St. Louis to Vinita, OK on the SLSF and from Vinita
to San Antonio via MKT. The Frisco, being continually frustrated by
Katy's lackadaisical service performance, had enough and severed the
agreement. Although MKT had trackage from St. Louis, it was a
considerably longer route than the joint Frisco route and opted to
become a KC-San Antonio train thus severing MKT St.Louis passenger service.
