It ran St.Louis-San Antonio till Amtrak. Most of that route is still on Amtrak's Texas Eagle service. The Texas Special became a Kansas City-San Antonio train on January 5, 1959. The TS, historically a St. Louis to San Antonio train, was jointly a SLSF/MKT run from St. Louis to Vinita, OK on the SLSF and from Vinita to San Antonio via MKT. The Frisco, being continually frustrated by Katy's lackadaisical service performance, had enough and severed the agreement. Although MKT had trackage from St. Louis, it was a considerably longer route than the joint Frisco route and opted to become a KC-San Antonio train thus severing MKT St.Louis passenger service.
