I think a lot of the problem is the death of the local hobby shop, where on any 
given Friday night, guys would usually bring in soem of their work and have a 
good olde fashioned bull session...now, that takes place here. If I remember 
correctly, there was one Sn3 guy in the Philly area in the 1990's.... who I met 
at the Kimberton module meet...that made my decision back in the day to go into 
On3, who at that time had a more active number of modellers...
 
Always looked at S (standard gauge DC, 1962-1964 time period), and am glad I 
made the jump early this year! Nice size, stuff rund very well (nice 
engineering guys!!!), and isn't too big!
 
I'm fortunate to be near Nicholas Smith Trains, who actually carries paint, 
Evergreen plastic, glue, wood, etc...and stocks S  scale trains....
 
And make the trip to Hoquat Hobbies a couple of times a year...
 
Other than that, with the exception of the dedicated S-Scale shows, and the TCA 
York meets, mail order is the only other way to go.
