Please read my post again as the source is quoted. ATSF had a BUNCH of 73 foot
6 inch
chair cars, coaches and few Chair-Observation. There are dozens of photos and
plans
printed in the Santa Fe passenger car reference series. I guess I could count
them up if
necessary. They may have had some RPO's and diners as well, but I don't own
those
particular books to verify it. Remember, I'm an Espee/WP guy. The coaches
are very close
to the AM cars. The scale ATSF guys I know in S are very happy with these cars.
Neither did it miss the point. Heck, this IS S scale. Part of the appeal, at
least for some of
us who have (like you) been in the scale for 20 plus years, is the ability to
kit-bash,
scratch build or otherwise CREATE something that is not specifically offered.
Because this
is S, I don't expect (and never have) to find RTR equipment or kits of all of
my prototypes.
Heck, I've been "making do" in S since I started modifying AF stuff and Ambroid
kits when
I was in high school (another time long ago). Nothing offered in those days
even came
close to any western prototype. Now I'm overwhelmed with great models
(partially thanks
to River Raisin!) that I would never have thought possible in S. We really
have never had it
so good in S. Part of the fun in S is finding a way to make something
unique/different out
of what is offered to the mass market.
I'll continue to make do with whatever compromises are necessary for the high
rail guys,
just so I can continue to get the other terrific models from SHS, AM and the
like. No
matter which company I have spoken with, the Flyer/high rail sales represent 80
plus
percent of their business. They really do "fund" the mass market for the rest
of us scalers.
There was once a day when HO passenger car offerings were full of "shorty" cars
as well as
full-length cars. Some of these are being marketed again (Hobbytown) today.
You may recall that Kaslo offered this list the opportunity to support
producing full-length
Budd cars two years ago. We sorta got enough commitments for the NYC set
(maybe), but
that was it. To date...NADA. I guess money talks.
