The 02012 bolster adapters for converting AF cars are set up to take Kadee #5's
(which are really oversize for HO, which is why Kadee eventually came up with
their smaller #58's), back
before Kadee realized (or had pointed out to them) that their On3 couplers
would work fine for S scale with a slightly shorter trip pin. I seem to
remember that a common fix back then was to use #5's with longer trip pins, but
whether that was a semi-commercial offering or whether individual S scale
modelers replaced them themselves, I am no longer clear.
