I last saw John at the live steam park during the Baltimore convention.  
Thelma was using a walker at the time.  John's couplers and passenger 
trucks are all over my layout.  But most of all he was noted for 
attending all the national NMRA conventions for many years plus winning 
several contests for his steam engines.  When the national was held in 
Houston during a hurricane he waded through the water to visit my layout 
that was still growing track and scenery. 

At the Denver NASG convention I sat my young daughter down to sell  few 
of my excess freight cars.  John came over to me saying he had just 
bought some well made freight cars from a little girl!  I guess he liked 
the construction.
