All,

I just painted my 2nd CGF gondola black yesterday for N&W. I have the decals
from Greg Komar.

As much as I like the idea of real wood for composite side cars, I do have some
hesitation about joining dissimilar materials like wood and brass - forever.
Further if the wood expands or contracts it could expose previously unexposed
areas that will stick out.

The CGF gondola really is a crisp tight car - that is why I got 2 of them now.
The details are great. It was built by the same company that built our Pennsy S
Models cars. It was however a bit of a smack in the face when I first saw it
because there absolutely **are** PSM G26 **parts** and IDEAS on it..... Name
another brass S car besides PSM and CGF that has draft gear built in to accept
the 802 coupler. Whatever.... I know I was first. It is just a tragedy the G26
did not get the quality and execution that the CGF car did.

So as Jim K pointed out, I have taken a pretty firm stance against buying
composite side gondolas and hoppers as they most likely would have been
converted to steel sides by 1957. I already have a good collection of SHS
composite hoppers. I am looking forward to balancing that out with the new
peaked end hoppers.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
