Bill,  Don't worry about the wood sides shrinking, I've had mine up and 
running for some time without problems.  I think I just used some of the 
canopy glue from Testors--just a dab here and there.  Besides if you 
paint the brass part of the car separately any movement is a non issue.

I judged the draft gear box kinda hard to deal with, so in my mind it 
wasn't a great benefit.
