Tom, I don't see how anybody could develop such an animal anymore. A
decent custom paint job on a steam engine runs upward from $200 alone.
Casting, machine work and the limited market would make the AM and SHS
engines bargains. Unfortunately guys who did this as a love of labor
are fading fast.
I've been working with a gentlemen who has now put together an operation
to build Fn3 steam and other large beasts. He uses urethane, brass,
sound systems, large Pittman motors etc. plus a couple of subs. He's
marketing them at $40,000. I would suggest that our market is similar
to his--I think he builds 8 at a time.
