I think I have seen a few photos of UP FM units hooked up with ALCO PA units on
the "Los Angeles Limited" back in the early Fifties. The Missouri Pacific
comes to mind as a road that definitely paired EMD E units with ALCO PA units,
and many photos attest to such lashups. It seems the Santa Fe kept its PA
units separate from its F units and its few E units as did the SP. The MKT PA
units, they had 14 of them, were kept separate from its E units, too. I am not
sure what the NYC and the PRR did in that regard.
In the scale world, well, AM PA units operate very well with EMD E-8s, don't
they?
