I guess there's enough interest to spawn a new thread.

Our timesaver fits into the S-Mod configuration. The timesaver itself can be
operated without interfering with the two "main lines." The electrical controls
are set up so that we can make it impossible for a train to wander out from the
timesaver onto the main. That way, we can allow guests to operate the timesaver
without being terrified our RRM's are going to slam into a parked train.

It is also possible to allow the main line train to drop one or two cars into
the timesaver, go out on the loop, and have a local switcher swap those two for
two cars already in the timesaver (the standard timesaver puzzle), and then
have the mainline train pick up the two outbound cars next time around.

The local switcher is a SHS SW-9 with Tsunami sound. The timesaver can be
operated with DCC while the mains are operated with DC, String, MagLev,
whatever. The cars all have KD 802's, and are all currently available.

If anyone is considering trying to do this in 8 ft of bench, be aware that you
will have to hand lay the switches. I could only figure out how to do it with
#3 and #4 wyes, #4.5 and #5 and #6 switches.

Here's a question for experience module folks: right now the modules use
BluePoint switch machines with rods going out to the fascia. Have any of you
compared durability with switch motors? I'd prefer to convert the thing to
motors, probably servo motors, and use DCC Accessory functions. I mentioned
before on the list that kids love to run this train, even though the top speed
is about 12 mph. I think they would like operating the switches with the DCC
controller, although that may be too complicated for grownups.
