A very interesting point; especially S scalers (and even some O scalers) have
become members of HO operating groups where larger
model railroads are not available in their area, just to be able to operate in
more complex circumstances.
What REALLY is interesting in this discussion is the sleeper situation
(although possibly growing) where the computer simulations of railroad
operations prevail. It is a difficult question to answer whether those who
enjoy only or mostly operations are still model railroaders if the models are
only virtual rather than concrete locomotives, rolling stock, and track;
arguments could be made both for and against.
