Sometimes a note from guys like Mike help me feel pretty smart for
starting in S way back, despite having been filled with propaganda from
the other scales.

That being said we do suffer a bit when it comes to most hobby shops.
Very few of them stock much in the way of S, so it's not in their best
interest to be too helpful. Furthermore, many S manufacturers don't
sell much to hobby shops, so it's become a lose-lose situation. If you
can get around that factor, you'll have a great time in S scale! If
your able to attend one of the several S meets around the country you
can pick up much of what you may need in one day. If you can make that
happen you'll also meet some pretty decent fellow modelers, meet the
manufacturers (most who are also modelers), see some nice layouts and
contest models.

Welcome to S!
