John,

At the St. Paul convention, I believe it was our esteemed VP. Walt Jopke
who had part of his layout suspended from the ceiling--I hope I have
that correct, maybe Ken Z or Steve Doyle can varify that.

When Jack Troxell built is second level deck he used custom made, L
shaped steel bracing to hold the decking up. I remember he brought in a
surveyor's gizmo to mark the walls as level as possible. He then
carefully cut into the sheetrock at the stud location and bolted them in
place. He then covered the holes to completely hide the bracket's
vertical members. This allows total access to the lower level. To test
the strength of the brackets we tested them by supporting our own
considerable weight from them! The level is a bit high for me and
slightly above my eye level.

Another one of our guys, Jerry Brewer, built a garage layout using the
springs and cables typically used in overhead doors. I haven't seen it
in quite awhile but it raises to allow use of the garage for what is was
intended for. I've lived in Texas since the middle seventy's but I've
never figured why most people do not use garages for their
cars--everything else typically found in basements is kept there.
