There's no accounting for taste. The closing frog turnout can be built to look quite nice, except that the frog will look odd.
Here's an off the wall suggestion: There have been a couple of articles describing how to move the points with a servo motor. It would be a trivial programing change to have it center the points when no train was on the switch - so there would be space between the point of the frog and the wing rails when they were most visible. Off the wall 1.1: What if you left some flexibility in the points, and actuated the closing more from the frog end of the assembly? The servo could move the frog part way, so that the point rail hit the stock rail, but the frog wasn't all the way closed. As a train approached, push the frog the rest of the way. Then it would only look funny when a train was near by - and nobody would be looking at the frog. Just rambling - haven't built a closing frog turnout since about 1975 -Michael Eldridge -Got my air eraser today - time to put one more part on my tender and then off to the paint shop. --- In [email protected], "Tom Hawley" <t.hawley@...> wrote: > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Pieter Roos > The other option Tom Hawley is talking about are closed frog turnouts. . . . > . . . . . . . ,. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > And the closed frog turnouts where the points, closure rails, and wing rails > are all one piece and all move as a unit are very unrealistic and > toy-trainish.
