The wreckers were probably rated on what they could lift at a certain radius 
from center, not their own weight.  There were a decent number of 250-ton units 
built, and there were at least UP and CGW who had 275-ton wreckers.  The joke 
in Omaha was that they had the biggest wreckers because they had the biggest 
wrecks.  DJE

  Question! What type of truck was used on the AF Brownhoist? I've had 
  one pretty much unmodified setting on a siding for several years. It 
  appears that the trucks they used are tender trucks--are they too light 
  for that size crane? I did put some ancient Rex wheelsets in the trucks 
  and it has Kadee couplers, but dragging that thing around is like a 
  "lead sled".
