I'm coming at this late some days I actually work and can't spend the whole day on egroups! There are way too many of them anyway, but I digress...
I'm often struck by life's great lies, you know... "You have a cute baby" or "The check's in the mail" I believe when some people (not all, contrary to many "opinions" there are no absolutes) say they already have too much HO or that S scale is still about AF; they are really saying: "Leave me alone, I have no interest." They hope these statements will shut down the conversation so they are "safe" to move on So be it, quit worrying about them! Model railroaders who will develop an interest in S scale already know that 3/16ths scale model railroading is vastly different from AF. They also know all about Ebay. The rest is just excuses about why one or the other isn't wildly embraced. If someone says they have too much HO, just say "Pity" and move on. You likely will never convert them and trying too hard often makes us look silly, like some sort of lunatic fanatics no one in their right mind would associate with anyway. I've seen S scalers kicked out of hobby shops for badgering customers to convert from "inferior" scales explain to me how that puts our best foot forward. Sam Powell taught me that good modelers appreciate good modeling period! That's why the layout Brooks Stover built is so popular it represents great modeling; the size does not matter. In the end, that is what influences people. I still maintain that S scale's exclusivity is its greatest asset I think "the few, the proud" was a pretty successful marketing initiative for another group But what do I know Jim Kindraka --- In [email protected], Bob Werre <bob@...> wrote: > > Bill Green and I were at the National Train Show > when it was in Vancouver Oregon back a few years ago.
