Bill, I'm glad you mentioned that 'cause the Monon kits have been gone
for a long time. I have 5-6 of your kits on the layout, but not those
you mention.
The outside-downward stairways in my neck of the woods were always open,
so were filled with junk that ended up down there and the bottom, of
course, got wet. So the covered version makes a lot of sense. Also
coal would often be delivered down a chute through a normally covered
man hole or through a removed window, so you could use that Leigh Valley
scissor coal delivery truck!

However, one thing most kits/final buildings seem to lack is
provisions for a basement. Many areas have basements and I've only
seen one, the Monon Shop provided one on his Bob's Barbershop kit.
I'm talking about a raised building with small windows near ground
level and around the perminter.
