And the D&RGW and RGS are the most modeled NG railroads.  When the East
Broad Top hauled standard gauge cars on narrow gauge trucks, they had to use
a coupler adapter so the SG cars would mate with their 3/4 size couplers.

 

Thanks for type D conversion information.  I like the look of the Sergent HO
couplers on my narrow gauge equipment that has them, both Sn2 and Sn3.
Almost perfect 3/4 size.

The only NG Ry that I know of that used full size couplers was the later
year DRGW to more easily mate with the SG. On older couplers only the
knuckle height was different.  The knuckle was the same upper and lower
dimension as its hinge on the type D and before.  The type E has an
"extended knuckle".   To get a type D from a Sergant, saw off the upper and
lower extensions.
