 It all works in sage-on-gentoo.

 However I think there are a few points that should be taken into
 consideration for both numpy and scipy.
 Just before posting my spkg-install I edited it to remove a change that I
 now think is probably necessary. I had set FC to SAGE_FORTRAN...
 Why? Because numpy tries to autodetect a fortran compiler and will take a
 gnu compiler first. Unless you set FC. Which means if Dave tries to
 compile sage with sunstudio on a machine that has also gfortran he is in
 for a world of hurt.
 So I think we should either set FC to SAGE_FORTRAN in numpy and possibly
 scipy.
 The other option is to set it globally but that may cause problems on OSX.

 Thoughts? Francois
