Hello SaligaoNetters,

Perhaps we can agree to disagree? .......AND....... just an observation ...so
far my mails have not been "edited" irrespective of the length, language, etc.
but one mail of mine was "moderated" (courtesy of Rico) as the topic was not
"Saligao-related". I have been careful since then.

If there isnt a Library at the Saligao Institute, dont know where the books
have gone! From 1970 & perhaps a couple of years before, there was a Library
with many, many, many books & to reach the top shelves I had to stand on a
chair & at times on a table. I didnt read Enid Blyton books from the Club then
since I had read them all in school years before. However, I did read a lot of
books by different authors (most of the books were donated). There were some
books dealing with Science as known then but since I was not interested in
those I cant say anything about them. In fact the Library was quite a good one
& many of us including adults borrowed books & returned them on a weekly basis
whilst others (including myself) read the various newspapers & magazines placed
on the table.

Dilip, with regard to the science-religion part, I am not techno savvy, but one
of my young friends (my son's age) has something that she logged on her mobile
which I read......it is to do with the Pope's sentence on Science-Creator/
World-Creation-God-Big Bang Theory-Evolution/ AND God not being a Magician.

So SaligaoNetters, I am sure there will soon be a book written on the same &
hopefully it will reach Saligao to join the rest of the books being donated.
Romances, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Science, Religion etc......It is up to the
"Readers" to choose what they wish to read isnt it?. As of now the sayings &
theories are not "Saligao-related", so Rico please do not moderate the para &
pull me up for it. Oh didnt know Mario was a co-moderator, thought it was
Kevin ... but then that was ages ago I guess.

Have a nice day & weekend. We of course are at work after our weekend, but we
will be off for the next 2 days - NICE!

Annette

Ashley, Everyone has a right to their opinion. But not to their own "facts".
Mario Mascarenhas and me infact co-moderate this list.
Besides, a list-moderator is very different from an editor. An editor edits
(revises, corrects a manuscript, cuts the length for size or policy) material
for publication, films, etc. A moderator is expected to simply check if there
could be legal complications from any post OR whether it's off-topic, and then
approval all posts whether s/he agrees with it or not.

Goodnight!

FN

Dear Fred

I'll tend to just stick with one point that Dilip makes here. that of an editor
- and i'll agree with him!!!!!

When there is just one sole moderator / owner / judge of Saligaonet who decides
what is right and what is wrong, is that not editorship????

do keep in ind, that I'm arguing against YOUR arguments and NOT against you.

kind regards
Ashley

Hi Dilip,
In Std XI logic, one is told not to argue against a person, but against his/her
arguments. You're arguing not just against me, but what you perceive to be my
position!

Saligao-Net doesn't have an "editor". All non-defamatory points of view which
are on-topic (Saligao-related) go through. There is no editing of posts.

Here's something for you to also ponder about in terms of (it's easier to
target those who are less influential, I'd think... Specially since you talk
about "develop minds that question, analyse and formulate answers"):

Btw, do you have a clue about the kind of books the Saligao Institute had
(thanks mainly to donations from Bombay, if not mistaken) in the 1970s and
thereabout? Did you borrow from there?

Rgds, FN

Where is the club library which you're talking about? Currently none exists...

Thanks Editor.
All I ever seem to obtain when I try to stimulate conversation is an editorial
wet blanket.
I take no blame for this sites lapses into suspended animation - I do my bit,
be it Modi or Library books, to generate conversations. But our boundaries have
been set too close and even though many others have said so, we continue to
stifle free expression and thought.

I know I give the impression of being a sh*t-stirrer, and I must admit I do
enjoy creating ripples of logic that cause the theist boat occasionally to
rock. But there's more to it than that. I want our youth, wherever they might
be, to develop minds that question, analyse and formulate answers. That's why
the thought of a Club Library only populated with Enid Blyton and Biblical type
books worries me a lot. And that's why I'm throwing in a few books of Science.
I hope others will contribute with books for children that elucidate Chemistry,
Physics and Biology in terms of real life (not exams).

When they read things on this site like "God created clean air" I hope they
will ask the question: "Was the air really that clean when Earth first came to
be?" They will then go on to discover that our atmosphere has always and will
always be in a state of flux.
They might then go on to ask "If HE did create clean air , surely he created
plastic bags and pollute air too?" Their beautiful unpolluted minds will then
wonder at how we are to allocate only certain aspects of creation to
creation.....

No, Editor, my choice of book is not bait but necessity in the face of
aggressive creationism, as is often seen on this site. The freeing of a child's
mind is indeed a great gift.

And the authors you have chosen will I hope sit proudly next to mine (you're
donating too, aren't you?) but I shan't be reading one of the authors you
mentioned. Not after I read his speech to the Catholic Society of Exorcists
(!!!!) in Rome. I have met these charlatans before. They need to be put in gaol
for exploiting the weaknesses of mentally ill people and their families on a
grand scale in India, Brazil, and other places. If they tried their nonsense
with schizophrenia etc in the UK or Canada or the US etc etc, they'd be doing
time.

More submissions please? Hope I was polite with that one. Phew! --
