My dear emo fans,
In relation to Sunny Day Real Estate, I first heard of them through
CMJ. I have not been a fan long, and I have not been on this mailing
list long, but to explore the very idea of SDRE and their emo
counterparts going mainstream: who really cares? You and I like emo
because the songs mean something to each and every one of us...not
because it is cool to like emo. The first time that I heard "Seven" off
of Diary, it made me feel so strongly... how does emo make you feel?
Isn't that the thing that counts? If emo went mainstream, why should
the fact that teenyboppers listen to it bother you? Most people do not
wear their feelings on their sleeve, and if they like the way the music
makes them feel and they think that they relate to the music, that's
great... they won't flaunt the music for its popularity. Those that do,
we know the truth... and after it passes, the music will still remain
in the hearts and ears of those that truly are fans. Don't overlook
what made you like emo in the first place because you are worried about
its future... remember the music, and forget the rest.
Stay cool and be good
