While saying SDRE is too "intelligent" for mainstream is kinda overkill,
I would say that (at least musically, not so much lyricly) they are a
LITTLE over the heads of the general music-listening. The fact that some
of the most talented musicians, and most knowledgeable ones I know both
personally and through reputation listen to Sunny Day or at least praise
them I think goes to show that its not just coincidence that all of us
genius' listen to SDRE. One thing i'm not understanding here is the focus
on lyrics. Especially since pop-music-listeners show no signs of giving
much of a crap about lyrics. Don't get me wrong, I love SDRE lyrics, but
thats not why I listen to them. If I wanted to listen to music mainly for
lyrics I'd buy a book of poems instead and save myself 8-10 bucks. The Area
where sunny day really seperates themselves from the rest of the crap out
there is their creativity, musicality, willingness to break free from
normal musical patterns while still remaining musical, and emotion. You
say emotion can't exist without powerful lyrics? I don't agree...they sure
the hell help, especially when they are as strong as some of sdre's, but
its the instruments that make emo not the lyrics.
