I have to agree with you that SDRE has some lyrics that are too "intelligent"
for most people. So of course the majority of the world is below
comprehension, therefore that kind of music could never become "mainstream"
or liked by the "majority"... I've always liked lines like "I dream to heal
your wounds, but I bleed myself"... You know, Brittany Spears would just say
"hey bro, I know you have problems, but i have problems too.." Not quite as
poetic, but understood at its face value by almost everyone... So no, SDRE
will never see the popularity it deserves, but that's ok... As for emo.. I
seriously HATE that word/designation/concept, whatever the hell it is. It
just sounds so LAME. For some young kids, the Backstreet Boys seem/make them
"emotional"... A very LAME term indeed. I've seen girls crying in those
videos - does that make the music emo? LAME, LAME, LAME term!!! I'd say
the Cure's Disentegration, or Pale from Toad the Wet Sprocket were two of the
most emotional cd's I had in the early '90's as I was enduring teen angst in
high school, but I don't think anyone would call them "emo"... Or how about
anyone who (like myself) was into the Smiths or the like in the '80's... Very
emotional and personal music, but.. oh well... who cares... i just think the
term "emo" really sucks and should die sometime soon!!!
"A thousand wasted hours a day, just to feel my heart for a second" - Cure.
