Sorry, I thought it was Outlook. I do know if in Outlook you are using Word
as your editor, your insert menu does not look the same. I do not know how
any of this works in Outlook Express.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Jaws 7.x or 8.x with spell-check

2007-05-22 Thread Annette Carr
Sometimes after you spell check a document and then make edits to it, the
"spell check" marks do not get removed from the document. Some place under
Tools, Options there is a way to clear those marks out and then re-run the
spell check.

This is sometimes a problem after scanning a document through an OCR package
like WynnWizard. All of the miss spelled words get marked as ignore. Now
as I am giving this more thoughts, I think you might have to do a select all
before going into options.

I'm sorry for being vague. Now that I am working full-time and commuting
over an hour each way, my brain is heading to bed by this time of the day.
Let me know if you figure it out. If not, let me know what you try, and
maybe it will trigger some dusty memory sitting in the dark corners of my
brain.

approximately 27 pages.
Jaws continually tells me that the spell-check is complete and offers me the
ok button. I know better than that because the document contains some proper
names that I haven't saved to the dictionary.
I have tried the following:

Both Jaws 7.x and 8.x.

Made certain the application window was maximized.

Tried spellchecking selected blocks of text with in the document to no

Ran a repair on office

I am using Windows XP home and office XP pro.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Most of the time all I have to do is just hit enter on the link and it will

click on it that way. With what little vision I have, it is quite difficult

[JAWS-Users] Re: Managing photos

2007-04-30 Thread Annette Carr
Hi I can share with you how I manage digital pictures.

Usually, I've got a sighted person taking the pictures for me. I have them
provide me with info so that I either make a list on my computer, or on my
digital recorder. This list contains a very brief description of the
picture, and either its actual number from the camera, or which picture in
the sequence it is, first, second, etc.

When I connect my digital camera to my computer, it appears in the "My
Computer" list as just another drive. I navigate to the folder on the
camera storage device and locate the list of pictures currently residing on
it.

I then copy the pictures to a folder on my computer. You will either
identify the pictures by their number assigned by the camera, or you will
just have to remember that the pictures you are looking for are the last 5
pictures, for example.

Once I have the pictures on my hard drive, I rename them to something that
will remind me of the pictures contents.

You are going to have to hope someone else knows what to do to post these
pictures up on e-bay.

HTH,
Annette

Hi Folks,

I want to put a couple of big ticket items on EBay.
In order to do this correctly I will need to provide some pictures of the

Has anybody had any experience with managing photos with Jaws? specifically
from the digital camera to a folder and then to the EBay oction site.
I am using either JFW 7.x or 8.x which either one will work best, Windows XP
home and an Olympus M10 digital camera. I will need to transfer the pictures
directly from the camera to my computer because I do not own a card reader.

I am totally ignorant of this entire process so please be as descriptive as
you can.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Jaws losing focus in word 2003

2007-03-24 Thread Annette Carr
I had this problem occasionally in JAWS 6.x, but it got significantly worse
with JAWS 7 and 8. On my home laptop I think there is a correlation between
the location of the mouse pointer and JAWS loosing focus. So I move the
mouse in a diagonal direction multiple time to move the pointer into one of
the corners of the screens. Of course I have no idea if it really got
there, but I' give it my best shot. Then I refresh the screen. This seems
to help.

Do you use braille or Large print. If so, maybe you can get a hardcopy
blank template of the form so that you can ensure you are catching all of
the fields. Or maybe you can make a list of the fields in the order which
they appear on the form so that again, you can keep track of what you are
filling in.

HTH,
Annette

Hi everyone,
thanks to everyone who helped me with my log-in screen problem at work. I
got it worked out. Although, one time when trying to log in again, Jaws
seemed to not read the item I was on properly. Hopefully this wont happen
again. The problem I have now, is on a similar topic i.e Jaws losing focus.
Atwork, we have several forms we have to access and fill information in on
each client. I find that I am having to constantly refresh the screen for
Jaws to correctly report which part of the form I am on. I have experienced
this loss of focus issue on my desktop at home for several months now. At
work it seems even worse though. While I try to deal with this on forms that
I know, it will be a major issue on those forms I am less familiar with. I
can't afford to be putting information into the wrong sections, or missing
parts altogether, because I am not aware of them because of Jaws. It is one
thing for it to happen with my uni studies, where I have more time to go
back over work, but with my counselling and mediation work, it is not
acceptable as it slows my work progress down a lot. Both my home desktop and
work desktop are running word 2003. I am also using Jaws 8.0 on both. My
work is running windows XP professional. While at home, I am using windows
XP home. Is anyone else having this same problem, or know what I can do?
Like I said, I refresh the screen, alt tab away and back again, use left or
right arrows and even close and re-open word again, to keep getting Jaws to
refocus. Sometimes I end up deleting work I need, Because Jaws is reading it
to me wrong, or I end up typing things twice, because I don't think it is
there. It is getting very frustrating. I don't remember it being an issue
until about Jaws 7.0 and even then, not till a few months after using it.
Hope to hear from someone soon
thanks Jason

[JAWS-Users] Re: Table reading

I have been also wondering if there is a way to title a table so that when
you bring up the JAWS List box of tables in your document, it would say the
name of the table instead of the table number. I haven't yet figured out a

Hi folks, I'm regularly working with a document that has 30+ tables in it
and, when I'm proofing and read through it with a say all, Jaws reports
Table 1 every time it enters a new table. I could really do with knowing
which table I'm in as it's read so that I can return to it to make any

I'm sure that it is probably a verbosity issue rather than a glitch in JAWS,
but I can't figure it out. Has anyone got any ideas?

I just wanted to post that it is in the middle of a rewrite at this time.
You will notice that the headings will be rearranged alphabetical but other
than that the changes will be internal for organizational purposes. The
reason is the page has grown like the rest of the site much larger than I
expected and the directories are getting cluttered. I would also like to
announce that the home page has been hit over 7000 times since last March 17
when I first put a hit counter on it. So it would seem keeping up with it
should remain on my schedule of things to do. This list now has 241 members,
personally I'm impressed.

2007-03-11 Thread Annette Carr

I have had the same problem on my new Dell laptop at work. After
researching the problem, there appears to be a known problem with some
keyboards, or in my case, the problem has been narrowed down to the track
stick located in the middle of the keyboard. At this moment, there has not
been a fix identified.

I am having trouble in Outlook express, word 2000 and word 2003 while using
Jaws 7, and or 8. When I am typing, the curser will jump to various places
on the page causing the content of the letter or message to be totally mixed
up. Has any one ever had this problem, and if so, is there a fix? Please
help. Thanks. David.

Sherry,

I recommend you run all "other" sounds through the default sound card and
also set up an entry in the JFW.INI file to allow you to ask JAWS through
the secondary sound device. I will include the pertinent entries in my
JFW.INI file because I think that will be more clear than the abstract
explanation as how to do this:

[Synthesizers]
Synth1Name=accentsa
Synth1LongName=Accent SA
Synth1Port=Com1:9600,n,8,1,x
Synth1Driver=accentsa
Synth2Name=eloq
Synth2LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
Synth2Driver=eloq
Synth3Name=eloqUSB
Synth3LongName=Eloquence via USB for JAWS Synth3Driver=eloq Synth3Port=USB
Audio Device

Note that the Synth#Driver=eloq entry for both the standard Eloquence and
via the secondary audio device are identical; this is because eloq is the
program that will run regardless of which device is in use. Also note that
the Synth#Port for the entries deploying the secondary audio device is
utilized and should be the exact name identified from the "Audio" tab of the
Control-Panel/Sounds&Multi_media. This will be identified from the
"Preferred Device" list and must match that list entry exactly.

The "Synth#Longname=__" can be anything you like, but it would be
helpful if it reflects the synthesizer and indicates that it may be the
primary or secondary audio device -- this entry is where the list of
synthesizers comes from when going into the JAWS
Languages/Change-Synthesizer menu.

The "Synth#Name=__" entry is also quite open for whatever you like to
use, but remember that this value will be used in any JAWS shortcut that
will instruct JAWS which synthesizer to use. For example, the "Start JAWS
with Eloquence" item in the JAWS sub-menu calls for JAWS to run with the
"/seloq" switch in force. In other words, if you want to tell JAWS to run
with a specific synthsizer from launch you use the "/s" switch and the value
of the "Synth#Name=" entry for that particular synthesizer.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

HTH

[JAWS-Users] Re: turning off the monitor

2007-03-03 Thread Annette Carr

Interesting that you say that. I've never had a problem with using that
function until my Dell Latitude D420. When the laptop is in the docking
station and I switch the display to external only, JAWS is not happy. If I
leave it on both laptop and external, JAWS is fine. Now I have not tried
using the external monitor with the docking station, so I am not sure if
that will change how JAWS responds.

Annette,
When you do the function key f8 to switch monitors, does Jaws still work if
there isn't an alternate monitor?
Jaws always quit speaking whenever I would do that. I don't have a Dell now
or I would give it another try.
Thanks,

display output from Laptop, to Laptop and External, to external only, and
finally back to Laptop. All of my Toshibas that I have used over the years
have had a similar key combination.

Usually, keys that work with the keyboard Function key are coded with a

if they can find an icon on a key that represents a video display and

There probably is a command to either turn off your monitor, or at least
turn down the brightness.
But it depends on what brand you are using.
For a Dell, you can do a function key down arrow to dim the brightness, but
don't know of any command to actually turn it off.
On a Sony you can do a function key f5 to dim it, but again, no command to
actually turn it off.
If you have someone sighted to look at your functions keys along the top,
you should see a picture telling you how you can use that key along with the
function key.
Don't be confused, the functions keys across the top, f1 - f12, or different
than the stand alone function key located elsewhere on your keyboard.

Hi Folks,

I know that those of you who are expert keyboarders have complained about
out typing Jaws for a very long time.
Have you speed fingers been able to come up with a fix?
My job requires that I craft some fairly long reports and for the first time
I have found myself waiting for Jaws to catch up to my remedial typing

FYI, I was trained as a Columbus typist, this means you pick a key and land

Thanks in advance for any help.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Outlook Address Book

2007-02-28 Thread Annette Carr

There are 2 things that I think you need to make sure are checked in your
e-mail settings.

Go to the Tools menu on the menu bar.
Select Options.
Tab to E-mail...
On the Preferences tab select the Advanced button.
There are 2 check boxes on this tab that need to be checked. One has to do
with completing names, and the other has to do with suggesting names. If
they are not checked, press space on each one to check them.
Click OK in each dialog box until you are back to Outlook.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: Charts in Excel

I found this in the help of Jaws 7.10.

Reading Excel Charts

Once a chart in Excel gains focus, JAWS reads it using the Virtual Cursor.
You may navigate the same as you would on a web page in Internet Explorer.
Once
you finish using the Virtual Cursor, press ESC to return to the worksheet.

If you try to use the Select Worksheet Objects function when a chart is
already active, a bug in Excel prevents another object from being selected.
You
must first press ESC to deactivate the chart before trying to select another
chart.

JAWS now recognizes and speaks the types and titles of all 14 chart types
and 73 subtypes, though detailed descriptions are only available for line,
bar,
column, cylinder, pyramid, cone, pie, doughnut and xy-scatter charts and for
their subtypes.

Note: Trend lines are not yet described.

Chart descriptions are spoken when a chart has focus and you press
INSERT+F1.

An Example Of a Chart Description:
list of 4 items
. Chart type.
. Chart title.
. Axes titles.
. Number of series.
list end

Each series is described, beginning with its legend, followed by the number
of points in the series.

The point number, data label (if it has one), category name, and value
describe each point.

When charts are described for which percentage contributions are not spoken,
and if there are several contiguous categories with the same value, rather
than announcing each identical point or bar, JAWS collects the items and
speaks the range.

Back Alt+b

Next Alt+x

I found this at JFWlite under hints/tricks..

Creating Charts with Excel and JFW
Here is an example.
say you're in excel and in column A, you have the names of sales reps going
from
A1 down to A10. then in column B, you have the amount each has sold that
month.
So, you have two lots of data, sales rep name and their sales.
go to the bottom cell,B10 and highlight up to the top using control shift
and up after you have located yourself in B10.
Now go to the insert menu and arrow down until you hear chart.
Enter here and the chart wizard will start up. This is a four step wizard.
let's say your boss wants a pie chart.
In step one you are given a whole load of chart types you can choose from.
go to Pie and enter.
the second step of the wizard will then start and give you the co-
ordinates,cells, you have selected.
you keep pressing next button.
on the third step, you will be asked if you wish to assign label and
following the steps within this step this is tricky but becomes easier with
practice.
The
fourth step asks if you want to put the chart in the sheet or to a separate
document, this is up to you but I normally go for a separate document as you
can then copy and paste into a word document and place text above or below
the chart.
You then click finish, and hey presto, a pie chart. Or indeed, any other
type of chart you want.
If you are using a colour printer, the charts appear in colour, if not they
will be printed in various shades of grey.
Also, while still in excel you can go to the view menu and into Zoom, to
make the chart appear much larger on the printed sheet.

I haven't done any actual experiments with this configuration, but it is my
understanding that the real problem attempting to run JAWS or WindowEyes
with Dragon is the resource battle on the sound card that acts as both input
and output devices. And, of course, there's the problem of Dragon hearing
JAWS or WindowEyes yammering in the background while the user attempts to
talk Dragon into doing what's desired.

I'm wondering if, by installing a secondary audio device, JAWS was
instructed to utilize the secondary audio device and the user employed
earphones that possibly Dragon and JAWS would "play nice" on the same
PC?!?!? Just a thought!

[JAWS-Users] Re: outlook address book

2007-02-20 Thread Annette Carr

Outlook does use a pst to back up your data from all of your folders, i.e.
inbox, contact, calendar, and other personal folders. But Outlook stores
the e-mail addresses of people you've sent mail to when you don't have those
people in your contacts.

I believe the file that Outlook uses is a .pst.

Can you help her thanks?

[JAWS-Users] Re: Help With JAWS & Excel

2007-02-20 Thread Annette Carr
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by highlight the cell, but you could
consider either of these ideas if what you are trying to achieve is to make
a visual change so that a sighted person can see which cells you want
changes made in.

1. Go to the format menu and down to cell. There is a tab in this dialog
box that will let you change the background color of the cell you were on
when you got into the dialog box.

2. You could add a comment. I've used this feature in Word, but not in
Excel. If you think this will work for you, I could see what else I can
find out.

Am I on the right track for what you are trying to do?

[JAWS-Users] Re: Jaws 8 repeating big-time

2007-02-02 Thread Annette Carr

If I am understanding you correctly, I am having the same problem with JAWS
7.1.5 and with 8 when using Outlook 2003. When using the up and down arrow
to scroll through the messages in my inbox, JAWS only reads the info from
one message and keeps repeating it as if your entire inbox is filled with
many messages from this one person on this one topic. I think the problem
is currently caused when new mail comes in while I am scrolling down through
the messages. In the past it used to happen when I had scrolled down
through the first screen worth of messages and then the remaining messages
were causing the previous messages to scroll up.

To fix the problem I minimize all programs by doing a Windows key+m, and
then ALT+TAB to get back to the Outlook inbox.

Annette

[JAWS-Users] Re: printing business cards using JAWS?

2007-01-11 Thread Annette Carr
Under the Tools menu there is an item for envelops and labels. You have to
go in and move to the labels tab. There is a way in there to select the
label layout. I believe there is one for business cards. If he has already
bought the laser printer card stock to print the cards on, he need to get
the number off of the cards, or the package.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Greetings All, Was wondering if any one could answer the below question
from a friend. He is using XP with JAWS and MS Word 2003.

How would one go about printing business cards with a computer and a
printer? Is there a program for doing such a thing?

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] Re: What does bullet mean?

2007-01-09 Thread Annette Carr

Bullet refers to some type of mark placed prior to an item in a list. It is
frequently a filled in circle, or just an outline of a circle. It can also
be a check mark, star, arrow, etc. There is no limit to what a bullet looks
like, but JAWS does not always give you an accurate description of it.

Annette

[JAWS-Users] Re: Jaws and ATI

2007-01-06 Thread Annette Carr

Marsha,

Are you using JAWS and ZoomText on the same machine, or even at the same
time. There are some known conflicts with these 2 programs, which I don't
remember the specifics about. All I do remember is that at work, the only
solution we came up with was to be sure to run JAWS and ZoomText on separate
machines. Even if they are not running simultaneously, they both need
certain parameters set and thus don't play well together on the same turf.

Since the information you have came from Zoomtext, why not contact them? Are
you running Zoomtext when this takes place? I have an ATI card in my Dell
system and that driver (DCMD0C0.dll) is not on my system. There must be more
to the message than simply that driver name--are you sure there isn't more
being displayed? What version of JAWS are you using? My suggestion is to get
the latest ATI drivers for your computer and install them, as I think I've
said before.

Hi
I don't want to keep beating a dead horse; however, I will try one more
time. When the computer decides to crash, which can be any time or a long
period of time, I get the following message.

DCMC0d0.dll

When the crash occurs, most of the time, there is an awful noise which
comes through the speakers. I've found some information on this subject but
it is talking about the Nvidia card while I am talking about the ATI card.
Zoom text says in some post, to delete the dcmc.0d0.dll file. Since I have
no idea what this means and since it is talking about an Nvidia card, I
don't know what to do.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Calendars & JAWS

2007-01-06 Thread Annette Carr

If you want to calculate, for example what date will be the 100th day of
2007, go to the following web site and follow the directions that I am
providing.

http://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadd.html

Hit h to move down to the heading Enter date to add or subtract from.

Press TAB to get to the edit box for entering in the starting month, enter
12.

Tab to the day edit box and enter in 31.

Tab to the year edit box and enter in 2006.

Tab to the combo box to choose add.

Tab to the edit box for days and enter in which day of the year you are
trying to find the date for. In my above example you would enter 100.

Tab to calculate new date button, and press the space bar.

Press h to move to the heading Calculation results

Read from this point forward to find out your results.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Help with bookmarks.

2007-01-01 Thread Annette Carr

Hi,

For the book you are reading in I.E. you can use a JAWS Temporary Place
Marker. This can be done by pressing Control+k at the point that you want
to mark. The next time you open the file in I.E. press k to move to the
place marker. Then when you want to mark a new place just press the
Control+k command and it will clear the old marker and put the new mark in
place.

The only thing I have come up with for bookmarks in MS-Word is to put a
string of 2 or 3 characters at the point that I want to come back to. Then
the next time I open the document I do a search for that string of
characters to move to it. Remember to remove the prior string, and to save
your document before exiting.

There is some type of Bookmark feature in MS-Word, but I don't know how to
use it, and have not had time to learn about it

Each reading is over 125 pages.
My question is how can I mark where I leave off each day so that I can go to

Donnie,
There is only one way I know of to do this, but it takes a lot of work and
then sometimes you will miss an incoming message in Outlook.
What I did is to assign a different sound to each list I am subscribed to
and to each person I receive email from regularly. Then I turned off the
play a sound when mail arrives in the tools options of Outlook.
But I have an email sound assigned in the control panel under sounds.
This way the default sound will play when you receive a message in Outlook
Express and only hear those sounds you have assigned in Outlook when you get
a message from that list or person.
Like I said, it's a lot of work and if you don't have a sound assigned for
someone you receive a message from, you won't know you have a new email
message unless you look.
Other than this, I don't know of any other way.

Denny

Donnie,
At the present time, the only way I know of getting the voices is on a CD
with Jaws version 8. I guess that somebody could make a copy of their CD
and mail it to you.
Or possibly zip it up and post it on one of those large file transfer

I would do that for you, but I only have dial up here and it would take
forever to upload since it would be so large.

I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem with Notepad or is it
just me.
I am using Jaws version 8 and when I type in something in Notepad and
seperate it with dashes, Jaws only reads the first string of text before the
first dash when I do the control left or right arrow.
For example, if I type in a social security number, 483-55-3672 and then do
a control left or control right arrow, Jaws will only read the 483 and I
never hear the rest of the digits.
This only happens in Notepad and not Word or WordPad and it only happens
with dashes and not any other punctuation.
Anyone else experience this problem?

Hi everyone,
when in word 2003, I have something which keeps happening and I am not sure
if it is meant to happen or not. For example, If I use the control F command
to find text in a document, the command repeats itself if I later do a
control page down. In other words, my last search command is repeated, when
I do control page down to move through a document. Even if I close word 2003
and then re-open it again, it still happens. This gets annoying, if I am
wanting to skip down through the document with control page down. Is this a
normal function? How do you clear out that last search command, in order to
use control page down? I have had it happening for a year or two I think.
Thanks Jason

Hi,

I just got a new computer at work, and wanted to have both systems up and
running so that I could begin to learn to use the new computer, while
continuing to be productive on my old computer, as well as transfer my data
from one computer to the other. When I installed JAWS on the new computer,
it told me that the serial number was already in use with another computer
so I could only work in demo mode. I had to call FS to get them to release
the old computer and allow me to use the serial number on the new computer.
Then I was left with working in demo mode with the old computer. I was not
happy about this.

In the past I've been able to run my one copy of JAWS on my old computer
while moving over to my new computer. Matter of fact, I thought we were
permitted to use our personal copy of JAWS on more then one computer as long
as we were not using the machines simultaneously.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Installing Jaws 7.0 on to another computer

2006-12-07 Thread Annette Carr

Annette

It sounds like he's going to need your authorization CD that shipped with
your product. Remember they all have a unique serial number that's 20 digits
long.

[JAWS-Users] Re: a tricky trick-e mail to favorites

2006-12-04 Thread Annette Carr

Do you have to e-mail it? I'm not sure about what you are trying to
accomplish. Could you just do a "save as" and save the page in some place
other then in your favorites? What about copying what you want to a MS-Word
document?

[JAWS-Users] Re: freedom wanting me to renew SMA NOW?

This is how it worked when I had to renew my SMA after 6 came out.

It will be more expensive if you wait until 9 comes out.

I just wondered if this has happened to anyone else who may be on their last
Jaws upgrade. I'm a little disturbed and have definitely written to the
info email address they gave. Jaws 8 is my last upgrade and they're saying
I need to upgrade my SMA by end of December at the special price. I have
never heard of Freedom Scientific asking this, because by upgrading now and
paying them I'm paying way ahead for, say, Jaws 9 or whatever the next major
upgrade is called. The letter was in Braille but the "enclosed form" they
referred me to wasn't. Aren't we supposed to wait until the next upgrade
actually comes out before we pay for it? I find it odd they're asking me to
upgrade now, several months before the next major upgrade. Just wondered if
this is their new practice or if I'm misunderstanding something.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Alt-Tab

2006-12-02 Thread Annette Carr

I can't remember if this was in Word 2000. There is a chance that it was
there when I was looking for it, but like now, I just kept over looking it.
As of 2 weeks ago, we no longer have any computers at work with Office 2000
on it so I can't check it out. I'm guessing that there has to be something,
because when I was using Office XP or what ever it was before 2000, I was
able to change this setting.

I have several on-line banking accounts and one of the typical features of
such services is to provide for downloading records directly from the host
site to your PC so you can access the information with your programs on your
PC. I only mention this because I wonder if Money Talks can use files
formatted for MS Money or Quicken. Somehow I doubt this is the case, but
just something I thought I'd pass along to the list.

Hi Sharon,

The option you want is:

in word,
click on tools,
click on options,
on the view tab,
check the box labeled 'windows on task bar'...

This will allow you to use alt-tab to cycle through your open documents...

[JAWS-Users] Re: Alt-Tab

2006-12-02 Thread Annette Carr

In the past there was a setting that would allow you to choose whether you
wanted your Word documents to each open up in their own window, or all be
opened inside the applications window. If they are opened in separate
windows, you can use the Alt+Tab to move between documents. If they are all
only open with in the application, you have to use the Control+F6 command to
switch between documents.

At this time I still can't find how to switch between the 2 types of
document arrangements. The nice thing about having the documents all
opening up in the application window and using Control+F6 is that it saves
you time when you are using Alt+Tab to move between applications.

That is correct. It's just that alt tab no longer moves me between documents
like it used to, and that's one of the rather confusing issues. The other is
that Jaws will skip whole llines reporting that there is nothing there,
and/or repeat lines and skip others at the same time.

Sharon,
Bob is correct in saying that the alt, tabbing will move you between all of
your documents.
I do it all of the time.

Hailley, that is very funny. My canes name is See-more Thumper.

Well, we had better stop this off topic chatter before we get in trouble.

Good suggestion Hailley! I was sitting here trying to remember how else to

[JAWS-Users] Re: Alt-Tab

2006-12-01 Thread Annette Carr

Walt,

Like you, I could not find it either, but my Word 2003 opens each document
in its own window. I'm still looking around for where else this setting
could be, but I'm out of ideas right now.

I am using JAWS 7.0 and 7.1 and often have the repeat line reading problem.
So far the only way I've been able to fix it is to reboot my computer. I've
noticed that in addition to this problem, JAWS will also be miss behaving,
with not reading the program names with Alt+Tab, miss-reads items in my
Outlook 2003 inbox, fails to read info in dialog boxes, and other things. I
doubt that this is a resource issue, I'm leaning towards thinking that it is
a video interface issue.

It sounds at first blush like you were told to change a setting that told
Word to not allow multiple instances, but I wasn't able to find any such
setting in my copy of Word 2003: what version of Word are you using? CTRL+F6
is the Word command to move to the next window, so perhaps there's a setting
to open each document in a separate window, but I didn't see that, either.
Do any of these ring a bell?

Also, is the Office Assistant turned off? That often can block text. What
view are you using? Is the Startup Task Pane turned on or off?

I have a strange question also connected with alt tab. This problem only
happened after a tech support call with Freedom Scientific, and I don't know
what they told me to do to cause it but ever since . . .

The only way to move between MS Word documents is with Control f6. Alt tab
only switches between applications, and does not switch me from one doc to
another in the same application. Also, if I close one document in MS Word,
they all seem to close. This is driving my crazy since I have to work with
multiple documents at once. Also, there are many times when Jaws can't read
me the text but the window is maximized. It's like something is blocking it.
The line just appears to be blank. Sometimes Jaws will read the same line
twice when I'm actually on the line below that one. Anyone know what might
possibly be going on? I don't feel like having our IT person have to
completely reinstall Windows and Office. This happens with Jaws 8 as well as
Jaws 7.1.
Sharon
