Yes, exactly. I've updated ReallyPreventStandby with the proposed CLI code. You can experiment with it by adding http://srvrpowerctrl.googlecode.com/svn/beta.xml to the "Additional Repositories" on the SBS Settings->Plugins page. Then install ReallyPreventStandby BETA. Or, alternately, directly download the beta version from http://srvrpowerctrl.googlecode.com/svn/ReallyPreventStandby_beta.zip and manually install the plugin. On OSX, go into the ReallyPreventStandby settings page and put in some kind of innocuous command for the "Inhibit standby command"..something like "ls -l". That will keep the plugin from doing anything other than keeping track of whether or not SBS is really idle. Then you can test with the: reallypreventstandby isidle ..cli request. While you're testing, you can edit the ReallyPreventStandby/Plugin.pm file and change the INTERVAL value on line 58 to a smaller number, say 2. That way, rather than taking 20 minutes (60*20) to go from not-idle to idle, it will go to idle in 2*20 seconds. I'm working on an OSX sleep-inhibit app that can be called directly from the plugin. We'll see what progress I make towards that and if I can make it so it doesn't share the same defects as jiggler & caffeine...i.e. keeps the monitor on when it doesn't need to be. On linux with gnome, ReallyPreventStandby calls gsession-inhibit, a small utility that I wrote that should prevent sleep. The C source code is included with the plugin. To use this app, you'll need to run the /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/ReallyPreventStandby/bin/unix/debian-install.sh script. All that script does is update the /etc/sudoers file so that the squeezeboxserver user has permission to execute gsession-inhibit under the currently loged in gnome user via sudo -u username. Finally, mrw, you might want to look at modifying your SleepWatcher script so that it also does a CLI call to SrvrPowerCtrl. I've added a new CLI request to that plugin too. Calling: srvrpowerctrl setwakealarm ..will cause SrvrPowerCtrl to schedule a system wakeup in order to service any pending alarms. If your SleepWatcher script determines that the system SHOULD sleep, then it could call srvrpowerctrl setwakealarm to force SrvrPowerCtrl to schedule the next wakeup. -- gharris999 gharris999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=115 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] squeezecast questions
I downloaded and installed the app tonight. It was easy to setup and connected to my server very easily. I verified that it does play FLAC natively and gaplessly!! I'm very happy with the app. There is obviously still some work to be done, but in general it works well!! Once it is streaming, it's stable. I found I had to start it playing from within the squeezecast app and then take over control via iPeng, otherwise the connection with the server would be lost. Not a big deal once you understand that. Once the stream is going, I can switch albums very easily. Pausing and resuming playback seems to loose the server connection too. What really impressed me was that while squeezecast was playing, it didn't skip a beat as I checked my email, facebook, and surfed the internet with safari. If you remove the "--quiet" option from the start up item then the script will become distinctly chattier, and will make log entries each time the "system sleeper" calls it. You would, then, see a log entry when the system does eventually sleep. At present I don't think you will. i.e. edit the following line in the file "Squeezebox_DenySleep": sudo -H -u $USER_TO_RUN /usr/local/sbin/sleepwatcher -d -V -a"/Library/StartupItems/Squeezebox_DenySleep/sbplayers_inactive --quiet 1>>$HOME/Library/Logs/Squeezebox_DenySleep.log 2>&1" to become: sudo -H -u $USER_TO_RUN /usr/local/sbin/sleepwatcher -d -V -a"/Library/StartupItems/Squeezebox_DenySleep/sbplayers_inactive 1>>$HOME/Library/Logs/Squeezebox_DenySleep.log 2>&1" Another thought: One might also create a script suitable for use as a "login" item, rather than a system start up item. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread
I've searched this thread and the Ipeng manual but haven't been able to find an answer to a specific setup question, hopefully someone here could confirm if what I'm planning is possible. With the Squeezebox Duet it's possible to use the wireless controller in "bridged" mode, where there is no wireless network available... I'm wondering if this "bridged" connection mode is also possible with an Ipod touch running Ipeng, to control a transporter which is only connected via a wired network. I checked in the Ipeng manual and it only mentions searching for a server on the wireless network, but nothing about using a bridged connection via the players wireless system to talk to the server via the wired network. Is this possible? See Apple's article you quoted on "Creating a Startup Item." It seems to imply that you can still create a startup item, but that launchd is preferred. And it gives further references. The real problem is that a fresh installation of 10.6 will not contain a StartupItems folder, so it would need to be created. I've been playing with the script, trying using StartupItems and trying (using Lingon) creating a launchd item. I've almost certainly done something wrong, as I can see (from Activity Monitor) that sleepwatcher is running, but there's no log. As I haven't switched off the way I am currently preventing sleep, I've no idea if the script is working. I won't have time for a while to do much further checking. I run Squeezebox Server at login, not boot so I'm not sure quite how it works. [SlimDevices: Plugins] USB external hard drive for VortexBox Applicance...advice needed
Hi. I recently purchased a 1TB VortexBox Appliance (VBA). I am considering purchasing a WD Elements Desktop USB 2.0 external hard drive. For those of you who already own a VBA and are successfully backing it up (garym, are you out there?), I have a couple of questions: 1. What USB external hard drive are you using? 2. If I click on the "Backup" icon on the VBA GUI, I'm instructed to "Please attach your USB drive to your VortexBox. Once your drive is attached you can reload this page by clicking on the backup icon." Is backing up really as simple as plugging a new out-of-the-box USB hard drive into the VBA and following these instructions? There's a new mechanism for starting things up, and there may well not be a StartupItems folder (I seem to have one left over from a 10.5 installation, and I believe the couple of items in it do work). Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Erland: Lyrics plugin
erland As an avid user of iPeng on my iPad/iPhone/iPod I noticed that the latest iPeng app for the iPad just released has new features linking into your song lyrics add-in. I downloaded & installed your add-ins last night onto my Qnap NAS box and was amazed at how easy the intergration was directly into iPeng. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread
The iPad finally got released in my country so I got it for an enhanced iPeng experience, and iPeng delivered as usual! Great work. But I do miss the ability of iPeng on iPhone/iPod Touch to play an album by just clicking the album art. One quick question: I would like the iPad to stay awake while in the charger stand when iPeng is on the Now Playing screen. I know I can go to iPeng options and set this and then revert to the Now Playing screen, and I know that I in the iPad options can set the iPad to never autolock. But both these settings will drain the battery when the iPad is not charging. Is there a way to get the iPad to stay awake only when it is connected to the charger? If not, would you consider adding a button on the Now Playing screen to toggle the stay awake option?
