Kaleb, 7.1 surround is two in front, two in the rear, two in the middle between front and rear, centre channel and sub. There's also 9.1 (don't ask) It may be that the PS3 is not sending 5.1 as the default or that the tv is not set to receive 5.1 as default from the optical in. Check the setup

There is nothing to force HD, only digital transmissions over the air. Some stations are throttling back their "HD" bit rate to add the other digital channels. So you can get a crappy "HD" channel along with a bunch of other crap too. The satellites have to manage HD channel bit rates too, t

OK, so I think I am about to buy a TV, have decided on DLP I think. Should I buy a HD DVD player as well, or in the near future? I guess its still up in the air as far as HD DVD or Blue Ray. The HD is cheaper. I also have noticed standard DVD players that upconvert to the 1080 I guess. At t
