Check if you have international SMS active on your service. The message is sent to a server in UK if I remember correctly. Or opt for the manual registration that Chetan has suggested. If the 10m demo has expired, you can switch off the phone and switch it back on to get another 10m. [AI] Need help with Talks installation
Hi folks ! Thanks to guidance from all of you, I finally purchased a smart-phone, Nokia 6681, which seems to have become the talk of the town with its pack of features and good looks. Now, I need some help from you in installing and running Talks. I have already downloaded the latest version from the Nuance site and have installed it in my phone. Next, I underwent the processes prescribed for automatically getting a temporary licence and that was 12 hours ago. The message I get when I take the registration window now is "Waiting for confirmation'. Meanwhile, the original 10 m demo licence has expired and I am reminded of this everytime I press any button or whenever some internal processes find it fit. My question is, is the automatic confirmation from the Nuance server getting delayed since I have not configured the phone for Internet access ? I was expecting a confirmation over SMS and if the internet connectivity needs to be activated, I may have to talk with my service provider as I used to subscribe only to a basic service (without GPRS/EDGE). Please advise, preferably before the close of office hours on Friday, as otherwise I would see my mails only on Monday. Thanks and regards RS To unsubscribe send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the subject unsubscribe. Re: [AI] How safe is Bangalore
Dear Harish, I wonder, how did you come to the conclusion that the story below is bizarre and off topic. The intention is to inform our VI friends that they should take care of them, as a number of them are living or working in banglore. I circulated this, as I received this from one of my IDBI collegues, who in my opinion carries credibility and it was also circulated in our office. If extended discussion of stray dogs is an on topic, issues relating to the safety of our friends is also the same. We should be careful in passing judgments, particularly on those issues, which may not influence us directly. regards - Original Message - From: "Harish" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Thursday, August 03, 2006 9:33 PM Subject: [AI] How safe is Bangalore > Hello > This is a bizzare story, and off topic. Again there are two different items under the server tab of the accounts properties. 1. "log on using secured password authentication" which should be unchecked. and 2. "my server requires authentication" which should be checked. Regards, Aruni. [AI] Child with one eye born in TN hospital
Child with one eye born in TN hospital Chennai, Aug 4. (UNI): The Kasturba Gandhi Hospital here witnessed the spectacle of a baby girl born with one eye, the result of a rare congenital disorder called cyclopia, which occurs in one in a million cases. A chromosomal disorder, cyclopia occurs due to the failure of the embryonic forebrain to subdivide properly. This hampers the proper development of the eyes, according to hospital sources. The baby was born to a couple who had remained childless for nearly six years. Experts said the condition could result if the woman was a diabetic before conception and the sugar levels were not maintained properly. Re: [AI] want to get rid of windows messenger
Hello sir, You can remove Windows Mesenger as Vikas sir told us that its a application of the OS itself, so kindly go to add/remove programs and use your jaws curser and go to top of the file and there are some icons on the left side. So try coming down with your jaws curser and you will see one icon like" Windows Components" click on that icon and one progress bar will start which will give you list of components of the operating system so select Windows messenger and click space on that and then do a next button and you will be done. [AI] How safe is Bangalore
Hello This is a bizzare story, and off topic. Posting it here for blind folks who return late hours. Harish. Take care. today ealry morning [ 24-07-2006 ] Hi, I would like to share one incident which happened to my friend Gawtham, (He is working in Valtech), today early morning. He is staying in Belandur came from his native town to banglore at 4 AM . >From Silk board he got into an auto and got down at Belandur (Out Ring Road, >near Intel Office) and walked towards his house. Suddenly one Toyota Qualis came and stopped in front of him and took him inside vehicle and started to move. Inside the vehicle there were 5 people including driver and already caught two girls. (My friend saw that girl's ID card and found they are Wipro employees). They have tied everyone's legs ,hands and plastered their mouth. Those thieves had taken all the credit cards as well as money from him. They asked him ATM PIN number for this debit card. This guy had given wrong number. One of the thief went to the ATM and tried withdrawing it. Then he come to know it is invalid number. They beaten him up severely front and back. His hands got fractured and they had cut his fingers, hands using knife. Then he told the correct number , those thief had withdrawn 18,000 from the ATM and threw him away in some place near to Ramamoorthy nagar. He shouted for help. It is early in the morning ,everyone scared to come and have a look . He slowly moved towards the road and got a help from one kind heart person who had given him hundred rupees. He caught the auto and came to my house.I couldn't able to forget the way he came to my house. This hands and legs are fully blooded as if he was met in an accident done by the vehicle. This back side has the red marks. I took him to the hospital. He is getting treatment now. He doesn't know what happened to those girls till now. If you are staying late night , Plz Go only by your office cab.Take to your home for dropping you. Folks, This is happened early in the morning. Make sure while coming from your native to bangalore, you will be reaching between 5 to 6AM and getdown in the Bus stand where there is crowd. But be very careful on your way to house. Unfortunately, If you are getting caught by thief, Give your cards,ATM number, jewels everything. Your Life is more precious than your money and belongings. If it is not very important dont carry your credit and ATM cards everyday with you. Please fowrard this information to all your dear ones and friends. Regards Vinoth Alagesan. Re: [AI] problem in outlook express
did you ever enabled your pop accessibility for your gmail account on the gmail site itself? If not, you need to do that first, if it is there, then it appears that your server is not supporting the secure password, is that a temporary problem or you have never received any mail from this account? will research on it and get back to you if found something relevant. = This article has been sent to you by shadab husain ( [EMAIL PROTECTED] ) = Source: The Hindu (http://www.hinduonnet.com/seta/2006/08/03/stories/2006080300151500.htm) Sci Tech IT TRENDS Wireless broadband is the buzzword ANAND PARTHASARATHY If WiMax is the way to go, wireless may provide its critical edge as a global equaliser POWER UNLEASHED: Broadband tethered to fixed wires was often seen to be too limiting. "THE FUTURE is already here; it's just not very evenly distributed." Fifteen years after he coined the term `cyberspace' in his 1984 novel, Neuromancer, American writer William Gibson was invited to comment on the increasingly `connected' world that he had foreseen with such startling accuracy. That was his response. In the years since then, the world has been lurching, albeit unevenly, towards a more even distribution of this `future.' First came the Internet — which more than anything served as the ultimate equaliser — through access devices like the personal computer. Then followed technologies that helped extend access to the Net through telephones, television cables and wireless. The mobile phone served as a sharp multiplier of access devices, harnessing localised wireless umbrellas like WiFi, otherwise known as the standard 802.11 a, b and g. The thirst for even more and richer content triggered what has come to be known as broadband — vastly superior upload and download speeds that jacked up the basic telephone-line connectivity of 56 kilo bits per second, by 10 or 20 times, to the megabit range. But broadband tethered to fixed wires was often seen to be too limiting — which is why the most bandied buzzword today is `wireless broadband'. The critical combo This is high speed Internet access without wires, which many believe, is the critical combo of technologies that will most effectively bridge the gap between the world's 2 billion users of telephone and Internet — and the 5 billion who remain unconnected by any means. Not surprisingly, when Motorola, one of the world's largest telecom players, with a presence in a wide spectrum of applications from mobile phones to back end infrastructure to consumer and corporate networking, delivered its annual report to the analyst community last week, the magic mantra it offered was `Broadband in your hand.' "This means being connected anytime, anywhere, to anything, with any service for easy, uninterrupted access to all of one's information, entertainment and communication needs," explained Padmasree Warrior, Motorola's Chief Technology Officer. If seamless mobility was what the customer demanded, convergence was the name of the industry game to achieve this — by breaking down the barriers between various `silos' of technology: voice through fixed telephone lines; TV through broadcast; video through cable; data through Ethernet; voice and data through cellular services... The glue which binds The glue, which binds these disparate approaches and enables boosting the speed of the to-and-fro traffic to broadband speeds is IP or Internet Protocol. The best, most cost-effective way to deliver broadband content wirelessly has led many players, not just Motorola, to put their bets on WiMax, in preference to other cellular options which are generally bunched together under the name 3G or third generation. WiMax is a standards-based wireless broadband technology that operates in the licensed spectrums of 2.3 GHz, 2.5 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and 5.8 GHz, to standards that have been laid down by IEEE under the name 802.16 d and e. The attraction of WiMax for many telecom players is that it straddles fixed, nomadic, portable and mobile platforms. And as a non-proprietary standard, untethered to any one company's intellectual property, it is seen as the future of open, global communication. Rajasthan is the first State in India to try and create a statewide wireless broadband network that will eventually link 10,000 village panchayats to reach over 50 million citizens. It plans to use Motorola's `Canopy' solution to create its wireless broadband umbrella, particularly in areas that are not served other Internet access technologies. Fixed access systems Even in the U.S., WiMax deployments being attempted have been at best, city-sized: Philadelphia, New Orleans (in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina) and Anaheim in California. The U.K. has a Motorola Mesh network in Portsmouth. Canopy and Mesh are essentially fixed access systems, which take the network as close as possible to the mobile user. Cellular handsets must evolve to match the power of such networks, which is why Motorola last week launched two mobile phones, the MotoRazr XX and the Motorazr Maxx, boasting the highest download speeds ever — 3.6 m

[AI] Child online safety card unveiled
Child online safety card unveiled Aug 2, 2006 A virtual ID card designed to improve children's net safety has been launched in the UK, US, Canada and Australia. The NetIDMe card can be swapped by children online when using chatrooms, instant messaging and social networks. Parents and children can apply for the card using credit card details and a form countersigned by a professional who knows the child concerned. It is hoped that the card will make it harder for adults to pose as children when online. The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (Ceop) has said one in 12 children met up with someone encountered first online. The ID scheme was set up by UK businessman Alex Hewitt after he discovered that his daughter could only verify the age and identity of a third of her 150 online friends. He said: "People want to feel safe online and know the people they are talking to are who they say they are." The company said it would also use software techniques "similar to those used by the passport agency" to authenticate applications for the ID card. The system can only work if two children messaging each other online have both signed up to the scheme. Children swap their assigned NetID nicknames and take turns to log onto the service's website. The IDs are confirmed only if both parties have entered their e-mail address and passwords into the service. The card costs £10 a year and Mr Hewitt said he hoped it would "substantially reduce" the risk of young children being targeted by adults. Jim Gamble, chief executive of the Ceop Centre, said: "Any measure that can help identify the real age of someone online is one more step to deterring people from assuming different online identities to exploit, groom and abuse children over the internet." Detective Chief Superintendent Tom Porter, head of interventions, of the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency, said technology could not guarantee complete protection. He said: "We would advise all parents and young people to remain vigilant to potential dangers and ensure no personally identifiable information is shared with online strangers." [AI] Sony Unveils GPS Device for Cameras
Sony Unveils GPS Device for Cameras Device will allow you to add location information to your digital photos. Martyn Williams, IDG News Service Sony will soon start selling a small GPS (global positioning system) unit that can be used to add location information to digital pictures, the company said today. The GPS-CS1 unit is intended to be attached to a belt and worn throughout the day as pictures are being taken. Every 15 seconds it records the current location and the time thus building up a record of exactly where the user has been during the day. Later that data can be matched with the time stamp on the digital images to work out where the picture was taken. Sony supplies an application called GPS Image Tracker to handle this data matching and it's recorded in the meta data stored in the JPEG file. A new version of Sony's Motion Picture Browser software now allows users to browse pictures by location and not just by date. Existing users will be able to upgrade their software. While Sony will only guarantee the GPS system works with its digital still cameras it should be compatible with any digital camera that produces JPEG images compatible with the EXIF2.1 standard, said Masayo Endo, a spokeswoman for the company in Tokyo. The GPS unit will run for about 10 hours on a AA battery and the unit's internal 31MB memory can store about 15 days straight worth of GPS data. The triangular unit measures 3.5 inches long by 1.6 inches wide. It weighs 1.9 ounces. The GPS-CS1 will be launched in September in the U.S. and Japan and will cost around $150. Details on a European launch have not yet been announced. New Camera Also Announced Also on Wednesday, Sony announced its DSC-T10 digital still camera. The 7.2-megapixel camera boasts as its key features a high sensitivity of ISO1000 and optical image stabilization. Both features can minimize blur on shots, particularly in low light conditions, said Sony. Other features include a 2.5-inch LCD and 3X optical zoom lens. It also has 56MB of internal memory so you can still take pictures even if you forget a Memory Stick card. The DSC-T10 is .8 inches thick and measures 3.5 inches wide and 2.2 inches tall. It weighs 5.8 ounces with battery and memory card. It will be available this month in the U.S. and Japan for about $400. http://www.pcworld.com/article/126621-1/article.html Vikas Kapoor, MSN ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype ID: dl_vikas Mobile: (+91) 9891098137. [AI] Microsoft Launches Windows Live Spaces
Microsoft Launches Windows Live Spaces Upgraded MSN Spaces service allows users to quickly create a Web site and build a network of contacts. Jeremy Kirk, IDG News Service Microsoft today launched an upgraded version of its MSN Spaces Web site that lets users quickly create a Web site or blog, post photos, and build a network of contacts. Microsoft is renaming the portal Windows Live Spaces, part of a group of software applications the company has been developing carrying the Live name. Some of the new Live services are upgrades of existing Microsoft ones, such as e-mail and instant messaging . The services offered for free will be supported by advertising, which Microsoft said is "critical to driving growth for the company." Microsoft is competing with Yahoo, Google, and others for a share of a growling online advertising market founded on Web-based software applications, including social networking sites. Live Spaces incorporates many features already used in other social networking sites such as MySpace.com, an online community owned by News Corp. with more than 70 million users. For example, users who are already using Microsoft's instant messaging application can start a chat from within Live Spaces. Live Spaces also allows users to add others to their network of friends based on introductions from "trusted" contacts. Built-In Controls Microsoft has also implemented controls addressing rising worries concerning minors using social networking sites. Users can control who may contact them through Live Spaces and also who can view their profile and site content. By default, the profile of users under 18 years old can only be viewed by people who are in that particular person's instant messaging contacts, Microsoft said. Microsoft is offering mini-applications called gadgets for users to personalize their pages. The Live Spaces service can be found at spaces.live.com . Microsoft also said it will release 10 of 20 beta versions of its Live services by the end of September. The company said it will release in the coming weeks a new version of the Windows Live Safety Center, a free Web-based antivirus and performance management application. Microsoft is changing that product's name to Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner. Microsoft is also putting finishing touches on its Live Toolbar, an Internet browser search bar launched in 38 markets this week. The company said it has incorporated access to other security offerings within the toolbar. The company also teased another service, a beta called Live QnA. Microsoft describes the service as an online forum where people can ask and answers questions on topics. A sign-up is available online . http://www.pcworld.com/article/126620-1/article.html Vikas Kapoor, MSN ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype ID: dl_vikas Mobile: (+91) 9891098137. [AI] Lycos Revamps Free Webmail Service
Lycos Revamps Free Webmail Service Lycos Mail now offers 3GB of storage and the ability to send file attachments of any size. Juan Carlos Perez, IDG News Service Lycos is revamping its free Webmail service, vastly increasing storage space and lifting the size limit on file attachments, the Waltham, Massachusetts, online services provider plans to announce today. Lycos Mail will now offer its subscribers 3GB of storage, up from just 5MB, and will allow them to send file attachments of any size, said Brian Kalinowski, Lycos' chief operating officer. With these improvements, Lycos wants to meet increasing demands for exchanging large media files--like photos, video clips, and songs--via e-mail, he said. Webmail is a key offering for portals like Lycos because users form strong attachments to their e-mail accounts, which keeps them coming back and using other online services. Lycos, a pioneer Web portal, is focusing its comeback attempts on broadband entertainment content. It ranked as the 24th most popular Web site network in the U.S. in May with almost 24 million unique visitors, according to comScore Networks. Yahoo ranked first with almost 129 million unique visitors. Lycos has been migrating its Lycos Mail members to the new system, which it is adopting from its South Korean parent company Daum Communications. Changes to the user interface will be minor so the migration should be fairly transparent to users, he said. A user-interface upgrade with AJAX functionality is planned for later, he said. E-Mail for the iPod Generation Lycos hopes the upgrade will significantly increase the Lycos Mail user base of about 1 million by attracting new users like teenagers looking for their first Webmail account, he said. In other words, Lycos is hoping to lure "members of the iPod generation" and not so much someone who has been using a competing Webmail service for 10 years, he said. Lycos Mail is free but contains ads and its accounts are deleted if they aren't checked at least once every 30 days. For $6 per year, members can upgrade the account so that it's preserved even if it isn't checked once a month. Another upgrade option exists for $20 per year, which removes graphical ads and increases the storage to 5GB. All versions of Lycos Mail offer virus scanning but none offer virus cleaning. By comparison, Yahoo's Yahoo Mail offers, in its ad-supported free version, 1GB of storage and a 10MB limit on attachments, with virus scanning and cleaning. Its fee-based version features no graphical ads, costs $20 per year and has 2GB of storage and a 20MB limit on attachments. Meanwhile, the ad-supported free version of Microsoft's Hotmail features 250MB of storage with a maximum attachment size of 10MB and virus scanning and cleaning. For $20 per year, graphical ads are removed and Hotmail storage is increased to 2GB and attachment size to 20MB. Then there's Google's Gmail , whose introduction in April 2004 shook up the then morose Webmail market and sparked a wave of upgrades among competitors like Yahoo and Microsoft. Gmail, which is free and supported by text ads, offers a continually increasing storage that now tops 2.5GB, and a 10MB attachment limit. It also features POP3 support, which Lycos, Yahoo, and Microsoft only include in fee-based versions of their services. Gmail also scans for and cleans viruses. http://www.pcworld.com/article/126619-1/article.html Vikas Kapoor, MSN ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype ID: dl_vikas Mobile: (+91) 9891098137. [AI] Blind Access Journal
Blind Access Journal Thursday, July 20, 2006 Microsoft Adds Yahoo! Messenger Users to Windows Live Messenger, Makes Instant Messaging Even More Accessible By Darrell Shandrow We already know how the accessibility of Windows Live Messenger allows blind and visually impaired people to communicate instantaneously with millions of other computer users around the world. Now, Microsoft and Yahoo! have expanded this capability to include users of Yahoo! Messenger. That's right! Windows Live Messenger users may now communicate seemlessly with users of Yahoo! Messenger. This development represents an unexpected improvement in the overall accessibility of instant messaging applications for the blind. As compared with AOL Instant Messenger and MSN Messenger, the Yahoo! Messenger has always represented a less accessible instant messaging path for blind users. When it was necessary to communicate with Yahoo Messenger users, the blind had to cope with an inadequately supported application or ask the Yahoo! users to switch to a more accessible instant messaging client. This problem is now firmly in the past! Simply add Yahoo! Messenger users to your Windows Live Messenger contact list and start communicating with them in an accessible environment! See Talk to your Yahoo! friends from Windows Live Messenger for more information, sign up for the beta, restart Windows Live Messenger and start chatting with your long lost Yahoo! Messenger pals today.
