Subject: Youtube Downloader Problem

Hello friends, Wish you a pleasant summer! I am using Windows XP SP 3,Internet
Explorer 8 and 80 GB hard disk. For the last some days, I have been facing a
strange issue with Youtube Downloader 3.6. When I try to download a file, it
starts downloading in the usual way, but after some time, the downloading
fails, and I get a message saying: Such and such file 0 mb failed. (17), could
not write to disk. Please check that you have enough space to download this
file. When I check the properties of Drive C, I find that it has more than
1.25 GB of free space, whereas the size of the file is much smaller than that.
But still I am not able to download the file and get the same message every
time I start downloading through Youtube Downloader. Kindly oblige with your
earliest expert guidance on this, since I am simply dying to download some real
great stuff.
With care and regards,
 Yogesh.

Hello friends, Some time back, when I used to try shutting down my system, the
computer would generally hang while the screen continued to show Windows
Shutting Down. At that point, I mostly had to press the switch off/on button
on the c p u cavenet. Only then would the system finally shut down and enable
me to switch it on again. At that time I was using Windows x p professional, s

After several system restores, my system did start to shut down
properly, but the same problem would reoccur when I tried to restart the
system. Later on, I formatted my c drive and installed Windows x p s p 2. But
still, whenever I try to restart the computer, the computer is stuck at
windows shutting down. At that point I either have to press the reset button,
or the off/on switch in order to get out of this problem temporarily. Please

Re: [AI] Request for books on astrology

2011-12-09 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hello Naresh g, I have never tried Kundli light, but I still have found that
Kundli.pro is quite accessible. All you have to do is, that, after filling in
the particulars of the native [Jaatak],tab on till you reach the language
combobox. Select English instead of Hindi and press f 11.
If my memory is correct, now you have to tab on till you reach Basic
Details. Here press g for general predictions. Mostly first page of general
predictions describes only the planetary positions, whereas from page 2
onwards, you can find the general interpretations. Now press Num Pad Minus to
activate the Jaws kerser, and press ctrl + Home key to reach the top of the
document. Now you can go on reading with the JAWS Kurser.
But all this is from a layman's point of view. We have a practising
visually challenged professional astrologer in the form of Dr. Anuj Varma from
Saharan Pur. I am sure he can help you more precisely.
Heartiest regards.

[AI] Legal Implications While Starting A New Internet Radio Channel

2011-09-27 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hello friends, inspired by some Pakistani friends, some of my Indian V I
friends are also planning to start a new internet radio channel of their own.
They want to run this channel on a purely non comercial basis, and hence do not
plan to include any advertisements or political news in their brodcasts. They
simply wish to run it in order to gain first hand experience in the field of
internet brodcasting. Apparently, the main focus of their brodcasts would be
Music of various types. But they want to know whether there are still any legal
implications for this purpose? I mean, do they still have to take some prior
permission from the government? Please clarify.Regards.Yogesh.

Ps. While I am composing this mail, my JAWS has suddenly st

opped working. So please excuse me for any spellin or formatting errors.
Thanks.

[AI] Uploading Raag Madhuwanti

2011-07-18 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hi all Music loving friends, As we grapple with the hot weather along with some
burning issues regarding disability and assistive technology, here I come to
try to refresh and relax you through some heavenly Music.
thanks for your enormous response to my last uploading of some rare
collections of Classical Music recordings by some Immortal Indian Musical
stalwarts. This time I am uploading raag Madhuwanti in 3 different renditions;
1. by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia on flute, 2 by Bhaarat Ratna Late Ustad Bismilla
Khan on the shehnai, 3. [Especially for foreign friends]: raag Madhuwanti
played on keyboard and some other electronic instruments and set to Disco beat
by Charanjeet Singh. The download link is:--

http://www.sendspace.com/file/ghnb5s

Dear friends, I am sending this mail to the list only in order to reach
out to the maximum number of interested friends and students. But, kindly do
remember to post your valuable feedbacks, queries and other related mails only
to my personal I D and not to Access India. Please help curtail the traffic on
the list to the maximum possible extent. Especially for the new members, please
do't hit Ctrl + r in order to reply to this mail. Instead, hit enter on my
following personal I D:

yogesh.sharma...@gmail.com.

For the serious students of Indian Classical Music and all other
interested friends, here are some brief introductory notes.

brief introductions: 1. Raag Madhuwanti: it is a very famous and
fascinating melody of Indian Classical Music, which is best suited to be
performed and listened to in the 3rd quarter of the day, [in between 1 to 4 p
m]. Supposing it is being played in the C Major scale of Western Music, Raag
Madhuwanti would use E Flat and F Sharp along with all other Natural Notes. The
notes D and A are generally avoided in the ascending order or the Aaroha, while
they are used freely in the descending order of notes [the Avroha].

2. Flute: this is a very famous Indian Wind instrument. It is also known as
one of the most ancient Indian wind instruments. It is made from a hollow piece
of bamboo, with one round hole at one end for the blowing purpose, and some
other round holes near the other end, for the purpose of producing different
notes by covering and uncovering them with the fingers. In Hinduism, The flute
is also respected for being the favorite instrument of Lord Krishna, who
enchanted not only the human beings, but also the animals, birds and nature
with his Divine Music.

3. Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia: Pt. Hariprasad is one of the living
legends in the field of Flute playing. He is the most famous disciples of Mrs.
Annapoorna Devi, the prodigal daughter of the legendry Late Ustad Allaudden
Khan, who had mastery over a number of Indian Classical instruments and also
Indian Classical Vocal Music.

  4. Shehnai, it is one of the most difficult Indian wind instruments, and
is generally associated with auspicious and joyous ceremonies in traditional
Indian culture. It is usually played in group, with one artist leading the
recital, and others providing him their melodious support. This group also
includes one or two artists, who play the base notes on Sur Shehnai, a type of
Shehnai witch is meant for the base notes only. For rhythm, the group is
generally accompanied upon the Tabla and Khurdak, the traditional drums or the
rhythm instruments of Indian Music. the khurdak, an instrument with the less
resonant sound, is played especially with Shehnai only.

5. Ustad Bismilla Khan: This legendry artist of Shenai haled from the ancient
Indian city, Varanasi or Banaras, which is respected as one of the main centers
of Indian art and culture. Ustad Bismilla Khan was responsible for establishing
Shehnai as a respectable instrument in the Classical Music concerts, whereas
earlier it was generally played on the gate to the ceremonial grounds or the
house where some auspicious ceremony like Marriage was being performed.

Hope these introductoryy notes would be helpful, and not sound too long
or boring. So, enjoy the Music, and also don't forget to dropme some lines of
your valuable feed back.
Heartiest regards.
   Yogesh.

[AI] Fw: [Accessible Devices] Press Release: Code Factory Releases TV SpeakIn The USA

Subject: [Accessible Devices] Press Release: Code Factory Releases TV
SpeakIn The USA

This is everything we have on this and no price information was included.
  Code Factory releases TV Speak
in the USA
New Windows-based software to make digital television accessible!
For Immediate Release
Terrassa (Barcelona), Spain, June 22nd, 2011
Code Factory is proud to announce the release in the USA of its
new software
application, TV Speak. After almost a decade making mobile
phones accessible
to the blind and visually impaired, Code Factory has decided to
move from
small to big screen and expand its expertise in accessibility to
television.
TV Speak is an application to be installed on a computer equipped
to receive
a digital television signal. Through speech output and
magnification, TV
Speak allows people who are blind or have low vision to use the
most common
functionality of digital terrestrial television in a fully
accessible way.
“The way people watch television is changing. In the near future
we will all
use television to access the web and consume multimedia content
and digital
information. Blind people cannot be left out of this new world
of
possibilities. Therefore television has to be accessible and TV
Speak is our
first contribution in this field” explains Eduard Sánchez, Code
Factory’s
CEO.
With TV Speak people who are blind or have low vision can:
Access the Electronic Program Guide (EPG).
While watching TV, consult information about the current or next
program.
Select audio channels to choose one providing an audio
description.
Schedule and record programs (image + audio, or audio only) based
on the EPG
information.
Tune and order television and radio channels.
Configure both television and TV Speak parameters.
Enable parental control settings.
Execute basic TV operations such as change channel, adjust
volume, etc.
To use TV Speak you need a computer running Windows (Windows 7,
Vista or
XP), a TV tuner card, and a TV antenna cable adapted for digital
terrestrial
television (either portable or that plugs into a TV socket). The
tuner will
make the connection between your computer and the TV antenna.
One side of
the tuner has a USB port to plug into your computer and the other
side has a
plug to connect to the antenna. In other words, the TV antenna
cable is
connected to the TV tuner, which in turn is connected to the PC
via a USB
port. In this way you can watch TV through your computer and you
don’t
actually need to use your television screen. However if you wish
you can
direct the audio and video output of TV Speak to your TV monitor
and use a
wireless keyboard to control the TV.
TV Speak is a product that Code Factory has been developing in
partnership
with ONCE, the Spanish national association for the blind.
When you install TV Speak for the first time, it will
automatically work for
30 days for free. Once the demo expires, you will be asked for a
license
number. To purchase TV Speak in the US, please contact HandyTech
North
America by email at
i...@handytech.us
 or by phone at
651-636-5184. You can
also visit the HandyTech North America webpage at
http://www.handytech.us/
.
For any questions about TV Speak, feel free to send an email to
i...@handytech.us
.
If this summer you are attending the NFB and ACB conventions,
stop by the
HandyTech North America booth, ask Earle to show you TV Speak in
action and
enter in the draw to win free licenses.

[AI] About Ad Ons in Internet Explorer

2011-06-15 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hello dear friends, hope you all are doing great! a few days back I posted a
query about ad ons, but surprisingly, got no replies from any friends till now.
Maybe I could not make myself clear in my previous mail. Hence this time I
shall try to be more specific.
Friends, mostly when we start Internet explorer or Firefox, we are
generally prompted to press the space bar in order to allow installation of
certain tool bars, which the computer addresses as ad ons. but on the other
hand, some times, we even get a message warning us that some ad ons may not
work well with screen readers. Now how can I decide which ad on would work best
with Jaws, and which one is going to cause problems? Also please specify
whether it is actually useful to install any add on in the first place? I am
using Windows XP professional, sp 3, internet explorer 6 and JAWS 10. Hope this
time you will definitely oblige with your quick and expert advice!
Heartiest regards.
 Yogesh.

Re: [AI] [bsftb] Request for Internet Explorer Vs Problem While Downloading

2011-06-15 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hello dear computer wizards, thank you very much for making Internet Explorer 8
available to me so easily. I have downloaded and installed it successfully. But
after restarting my computer, when I started it for the first time, I got a
message from Google, saying: an other programme tried to change your settings,
but it was prevented from doing so by Google. On the next tab, it gave me the
change option, which I did not use. I was even prompted by Internet Explorer 8
to opt for certain changes, but I pressed enter on ask me later option.
But, still, when I headed for my favorite Music site,
www.mp3hungama.com, firstly it took rather long time to open. Again when I
pressed enter on the download link for a song, I again heard the clicking
sound, and the curser stayed just where it was. I tried pressing the
application key and pressing enter on save target as and open options, but
again nothing happened.
As you may be remembering that I was facing the same problem with
Internet Explorer 6, when some friends advised me to upgrade to Explorer
Version 8, as some sites have stopped supporting the earlier versions of I. E.
But I am surprised how this problem traveled over even to I. E. 8.
Interestingly, I E. 8 is not opening any pop up windows even when the pop up
blocker is already turned off. I hope I. E 8 has no issues with the capacity of
the ram. So here I am, again waiting for your expert guidance. Hence please
oblige at the earliest.
Regards.
 Yogesh.

[AI] Strange Thing On Desktop

2011-05-30 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hi friends, very good evening to all of you! Sorry for coming up with one query
after the other. But I never expected such a strange thing to happen.
I am using Windows XP SP 3 with Jaws 10. I have turned off the Jaws
auto start option, and always use a hot key to start JAWS. I also have N V D A
installed on my system, but I use it very rarely. Apparently, I use an other
hot key to start N V D A.
Everything was going normal for about 3 months, until This evening
when I switched on my desktop. As usual, I pressed the Jaws Hot key to start
it, but, Jaws would not start after pressing the Jaws Hot Key. I pressed the
hot key again, but again nothing happened. I restarted the system, and again
the same thing happened. I pressed Jaws hot key about three times, each time
after a gap of approximately 3 minutes, and ultimately started N V D A. At last
I tried to turn of the system from the start menu, but, to muy surprise, Jaws
suddenly started in 3 windows, and N V D A also started talking at once. As all
the 4 voices started talking at the same time, I ultimately switched off the
system, and restarted it again! This time Jaws is talking normally, but, to my
surprise, the Dropbox I con has disappeared from my system tray! Although
Dropbox I con is very much there on the desktop, but as I press insert + f 11
to check the status of the files I uploaded on to dropbox this morning, the
system tray is showing Jaws For Windows instead of Dropbox. So, may I request
my learned friends toKindly explain what is wrong with my Dropbox and how can I
remedy it? Hope you will again oblige with your earliest expert guidance.
With thanks and regards,
   Yogesh.

[AI] Law schools test to go disabled-friendly this year

2011-05-29 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hi friends, Here is a piece of good news for the LAW Aspirant V I Youth,
courtsey Mr. Prateek Agreval:--

Law schools test to go disabled-friendly this year
  prateek aggarwal prateekagarwa...@gmail.com May 02 02:15PM +0530 ^

Hi members, the following sounds like a great news for law aspirants.
Perhaps it may help some of you.

  ---
Law schools test to go disabled-friendly this year - The Times of India

  Mathang Seshagiri, TNN | May 2, 2011, 12.47am IST

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bangalore/Law-schools-test-to-go-disabled-friendly-this-year/articleshow/8137883.cms

BANGALORE: The largest-ever law school exam that decides admission to
nearly a dozen national schools across
  India
  will turn disabled-friendly this summer.

Additional time to crack the two-hour exam, option of bringing one's
own scribes along with instruments for problem-solving and a question
  paper sans any
visual reasoning to aid the blind are some of the key features of the
  Common Law Admission Test
(CLAT) policy of candidates with disabilities to be implemented from
  this year.

The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS),
Kolkata which is organising the fourth edition of CLAT, will allow
  disabled candidates
who are hearing/vision impaired to bring their own scribes or have the
CLAT committee pick a scribe for them. The scribe must be one
  educational class
junior to the candidate and must also not be someone pursuing a law
degree. The scribe will also give a declaration stating that he/she
  will not in any
way help the disabled candidate answer any question in the paper,
apart from the regular duty of reading out the paper and pencilling
  the correct answer.

Thus far, there has been no consistent CLAT policy on the issue of
scribes. While some CLAT-conducting law schools permitted candidates
  to bring their
own scribes, others did not. We, therefore, decided that we must adopt
a detailed policy that would aim to balance the concerns of disabled
  candidates
as well as to ensure a fair conduct of the CLAT examination. Also, we
realised that it was important to grant disabled candidates the option
  of bringing
their own scribes. Often times, it so happens that externally provided
scribes do not work well with the disabled candidate, and this has a
  detrimental
impact on their examination, MP Singh, CLAT 2011 convenor, told TOI.

Disabled candidates taking the May 15 exam will get 40 additional
minutes to complete the under-graduate entrance test and 60 minutes
  for the post-graduate
  test.

The question paper itself is being given a makeover to make it
friendly for the differently-abled. We've decided that we will not
  have any visual reasoning
questions in the logical reasoning section, since this unfairly
prejudices visually impaired candidates who are not able to see the
  visuals in the question.
We've also decided to permit them to bring their own instruments for
helping with sections such as maths, which might require the use of
  Taylor Frames,
  for visually impaired candidates, said
  Shamnad Basheer,
professor at WBNUJS and part of the CLAT committee.

Fix Your Terrible, Insecure Passwords in Five Minutes
A foolproof technique to secure your computer, e-mail, and bank account.
  By Farhad Manjoo
Posted Friday, July 24, 2009, at 7:05 AM ET

It's tempting to blame the victim. In May, a twenty something French
hacker broke into several Twitter employees' e-mail accounts and stole a trove
of meeting notes, strategy documents, and other confidential scribbles. The
hacker eventually gave the stash to TechCrunch, which has since published notes
from meetings in which Twitter execs discussed their very lofty goals. (The
company wants to be the first Web service to reach 1 billion users.) How'd the
hacker get all this stuff? Like a lot of tech startups, Twitter runs without
paper—much of the company's discussions take place in e-mail and over shared
Google documents. All of these corporate secrets are kept secure with a very
thin wall of protection: the employees' passwords, which the intruder managed
to guess because some people at Twitter used the same passwords for many
differe! nt sites. In other words, Twitter had it coming. The trouble is, so do
the rest of us.

Your passwords aren't very secure. Even if you think they are, they
probably aren't. Do you use the same or similar passwords for several different
important sites? If you don't, pat yourself on the back; if you do, you're not
alone—one recent survey found that half of people online use the same password
for all the sites they visit. Do you change your passwords often? Probably not;
more than 90 percent don't. If one of your accounts falls to a hacker, will he
find enough to get into your other accounts? For a scare, try this: Search your
e-mail for some of your own passwords. You'll probably find a lot of them,
either because you've e-mailed them to yourself or because some Web sites send
along your password when you register or when you tell them you've forgotten
it. If an attacker manages to get into your e-mai! l, he'll have an easy time
accessing your bank account, your social ne tworking sites, and your fantasy
baseball roster. That's exactly what happened at Twitter. (Here's my detailed
explanation of how Twitter got compromised.)

Everyone knows it's bad to use the same password for different sites.
People do it anyway because remembering different passwords is annoying.
Remembering different difficult passwords is even more annoying. Eric Thompson,
the founder of AccessData, a technology forensics company that makes
password-guessing software, says that most passwords follow a pattern. First,
people choose a readable word as a base for the password—not necessarily
something in Webster's but something that is pronounceable in English. Then,
when pressed to add a numeral or symbol to make the password more secure, most
people add a 1 or ! to the end of that word. Thompson's sof! tware, which uses
a brute force technique that tries thousands of passwords until it guesses
yours correctly, can easily suss out such common passwords. When it
incorporates your computer's Web history in its algorithm—all your ramblings on
Twitter, Facebook, and elsewhere—Thompson's software can come up with a list of
passwords that is highly likely to include yours. (He doesn't use it for
nefarious ends; AccessData usually guesses passwords under the direction of a
court order, for military purposes, or when companies get locked out of their
own systems—systems administrator gets hit by a bus on the way to work,
Thompson says by way of example.)

Security expert Bruce Schneier writes about passwords often, and he
distills Thompson's findings into a few rules: Choose a password that doesn't
contain a readable word. Mix upper and lower case. Use a number or symbol in
the middle of the word,! not on the end. Don't just use 1 or !, and don't use
symbols as repla cements for letters, such as @ for a lowercase
A—password-guessing software can see through that trick. And of course, create
unique passwords for your different sites.

That all sounds difficult and time-consuming. It doesn't have to be. In
Schneier's comment section, I found a foolproof technique to create passwords
that are near-impossible to crack yet easy to remember. Even better, it'll take
just five minutes of your time. Ready?

Start with an original but memorable phrase. For this exercise, let's use
these two sentences: I like to eat bagels at the airport and My first Cadillac
was a real lemon so I bought a Toyota. The phrase can have something to do with
your life or it can be a random collection of words—just make sure it's
something you can remember. That's the key: Because a mnemonic is easy to

[AI] An Other Piece Of good News

2011-04-19 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hello friends, I am pasting here a mail from an other mailing list.

I always believe and maintain that we are ever closer to regaining
vision lost due to retina related problems, thanks to the efforts of
Doctors and Scientists all over the world.

Here is another piece of good news, which I just picked up from the
online version of The Hindu:

Blind people may regain their sight thanks to a light sensitive gene
taken from algae.

Chemists believe they may be able to replace damaged cells in the
retina with similar ones found in algae.

The technique has worked in mice and now scientists believe they can
begin human trials within two years.

The idea is to develop a treatment for blindness, Alan Horsager at
the University of Southern California, the Telegraph reports.

Algae are non-parasitic plants without roots, stems or leaves. They
contain chlorophyll and vary in size from microscopic forms to massive
seaweeds, living
in fresh or salt water or moist places. Some serve as food source.

More than a million people in Britain suffer from vision problems
caused by a damaged or malfunctioning retinas.

The retina is the business end of the eye, where nerve cells convert
light into electrical and chemical signals that are sent to the brain
down the optic
nerve.

Algae need to be sensitive to light so they can seek out sunlight for
photosynthesis and it is the cells they use to do this that scientists
hope to use
to replenish damaged equivalents in the human eye.

It involves injecting the gene into the retina. Early tests showed
that blind mice were able to see light again after treatment and that
the effect appears
to be permanent.

It's good on paper, and it is clear they are heading for a clinical
trial with the information they are gathering, said Pete Coffey, at
University College
London.

Dear Pradeep, Amiyo, Dinesh and all other friends, It is heartening to know
that once again the visually challenged Indians have made a direct contribution
in the Nation wide struggle to eradicate corruption from this country. I join
you in saluting the brave effort of these heroes. Congrats to them once again.
And, as told by Pradeep, this gallant group also included members from Access

Access India for uniting the V C Indians and bringing them on a common
platform. But I am surprised and also a little disapointed as to why their

  TOP STORY

As disasters spread, so do online scammers

   By Jan Bultmann

The outpouring of generosity from people all over the world following the
earthquake in Japan has been accompanied by a profusion of donation scams.

These scams no longer prey on the simply gullible but have moved to less
obvious ruses such as malicious websites that use clickjacking and drive-by
attacks.

Natural disasters bring out extremes of human behavior. Workers at the
devastated Japanese nuclear power plants place themselves in harm's way trying
to protect other people from explosions and radiation poisoning. Military and
social services staffers work days without sleep under horrifying conditions.

And in response, strangers around the world ask how they can help, what
they can do, what they can send. Unfortunately, predators also respond, seeking
to exploit the suffering and generosity of others for personal gain.

Online donation scams are not new, but they became really evident in 2005
in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Most of those scams were e-mail–based
phishing, also known as 419 scams. The least sophisticated claimed to be from
victims; they explained complicated and peculiar circumstances leading them to
write e-mails asking individuals for money. More advanced phishing scams
imitated the look and feel of reputable charities' Web presences.

Thanks to the increasing efficiency of spam filters, e-mails such as
these reach fewer users today — and most Web users have learned to recognize
and discard them quickly.

Since 2005, online scams have grown in sophistication. So it should be no
surprise that, in the wake of Japan's crisis, donation scams are harder to
spot. Clickjacking and drive-by threats don't depend on our charitable impulses
— they target our interest in the unfolding events, using such common sources
as news photographs, links to YouTube videos, and information updates.

Since March 11, 2011, scores of domain names have been registered — names
containing terms such as Japan help, tsunami, or nuclear disaster, according to
a Forbes report.

Often, these URLs are similar to the Web addresses of popular sites or
are based on common misspellings. These malicious sites are also heavily seeded
with now-familiar search terms (Japan, tsunami, nuclear disaster, radiation,
Japan help, and so on) to draw the clicks of (or clickjack) people searching
for information. This practice is known as search engine optimization poisoning.

A TrendMicro blog shows a search return list that reportedly includes
fake sites.

Sometimes the scams are relatively innocuous; scammers register these
bogus Web addresses as a way to earn money through advertising or delivering
traffic to online survey sites. But others are far more dangerous. Clicking
malicious drive-by sites, for example, can easily result in an infected PC.

Search-engine companies watch for these sites and eliminate the dangerous
ones as quickly as possible. But so many have appeared in the aftermath of
Japan's disaster that even Google is having difficulty keeping up with them,
reports Bojan Zdrnja at Internet Storm Center.

PC users can also be directed to drive-by sites through links circulated
on Twitter, Facebook, and other social-networking sites as well as in
discussion forums. Wall posts, IMs, and messages represent themselves as
containing links to newly uncovered disaster videos that might be tsunami
simulations, doctored images, and worse.

As Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos, wrote on the
Sophos blog:
Facebook users are being tricked into clicking on links which
claim to be raw CNN footage of the Japanese tsunami by cold-hearted scammers —
as part of a plot to earn money by driving Web traffic to take online surveys.
The videos, which in the examples seen by Sophos exist on a website called
spinavideo, purport to be footage of the horrifying tsunami which hit parts of
Japan on Friday.

Clicking the link takes users to a spoof website that looks like YouTube.
Users are tricked into agreeing to 'Like' the page on Facebook, which spreads
the scam even further on Facebook.

But misdirection to online surveys and likejacking, as Cluley

Windows Secrets personal security baseline

  By Jan Bultmann

Frequent Internet users get mixed messages about data privacy.

We worry about data miners and identity theft but put our life stories up on
Facebook. Here are some basic steps to enhance your personal security.

Are we confused or just careless about our privacy? On the one hand, we hear
plenty of stories about the data-mining and aggregation techniques used by
companies and various governmental agencies around the world, as well as by
criminals seeking to use social engineering to trick people out of money or
processor power.

At the same time, social-networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and
LinkedIn — which many people see as legitimate and benign — ask for more and
more information about our past, our employment, and our interests. With almost
every iteration of these sites, the Internet presses more deeply into our
privacy.

You have good reason to think twice before filling out every field your
social-networking site presents to you. In case you forget the varieties of
Internet perils out there, here are reminders of what's not in your interest
when some people get their hands on your data. After that, to cheer you up a
little, are 10 tips on how to protect your privacy.

A flourishing black market for personal data

You undoubtedly know that cybercriminals gather personal data to steal
identities and money. Users can suffer damage to their personal credit and even
jeopardy to their physical safety. But you might not know that most
cybercriminals sell your data to other criminals.

Criminal networks exchange huge databases of personal information that can be
used for everything from scamming credit-card companies to creating botnets —
networks of personal computers that have been compromised and are controlled
remotely and secretly. Botnets can be used to launch denial-of-service attacks,
for example, without the computer owners ever knowing anything is amiss.

Criminals also use personal data to assemble elaborate social-engineering
scams, in which they might impersonate you online to gather information from
others you know or to trick your online acquaintances into clicking dangerous
links that lead to spoofed websites. Most of us know such scams dupe people
into downloading viruses or spyware onto their computers, but it still happens
— frequently.

Online information is searchable. Powerful Internet search engines and
data-crunching tools make it easy for criminals to build a full profile of you,
even if the information about you online is distributed over many different
social networking sites or posted by many different people.

It doesn't hurt to remember that any data published online is there forever.
Depending on the privacy policy of the company holding the data, your formerly
private information might ultimately be seen by anyone on the Internet.

Personal data can get online a number of different ways.

a.. You shop or do business on the Web. Any time you set up an online
account, buy goods online, register for contests, take part in surveys,
download free software, or simply surf the Web, you provide data to businesses,
governments, and other organizations.

Businesses use your personal data to verify who you are when you complete a
transaction. They also record your preferences so that they can deliver
personalized content or special offers. A business's retention of your personal
information also allows it to offer you conveniences: you don't have to enter
your shipping address again and again.

b.. You exist: therefore, you have official records. Records maintained by
government agencies are searchable. For example, photos of your house (and a
statement of its value), your birth certificate, and copies of your signature
might all be easily available.

Professional associations or nonprofits might reveal your full name,
workplace, and donation history.

c.. You freely participate in social-networking sites. You or your friends
might post enough information on social-networking sites for criminals to
assemble a fairly complete picture of your life.

Ten tips for data privacy

Here are tips for how to protect your personal information.

a.. Use unique Forgot your password? questions: One of the most frequent ways
hackers break into the social networking accounts of celebrities and public
figures is by clicking the Forgot your password? link on the

[AI] Getting Aquainted With Indian Classical Music

2011-02-06 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hello dear friends, since many friends on various lists want me to upload
something in Hindustani Classical Music, I thought I'd better give a brief
introduction to it before uploading any album. Apparently, this introduction is
meant for those friends, who need to be acquainted to Indian Classical Music.
Dear friends, there are 2 systems of Music in India--namely, the
South Indian or Karnatak Music and the North Indian or Hindustani Music. As is
obvious from the names, the Karnatak Music is popular in South Indian states,
such as Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh and Chennai., whereas the
Hindustani Music is prevalent in the rest of India, and even Pakistan. Although
both these systems of Music follow the same basic principles, still there is
quite a bit of difference between the two. Since my field is Hindustani Music,
I would basically talk about that only.
Friends, in Indian Music, the term Rhythm is synonical to 2 terms:
1. Lai: the continuous or definite speed of time.
2. Taal: the fixed circle which is meant to measure Lai and make it
interesting. for example, if you listen to the fixed Tic Tic sound of an old
fashioned clock, you may call it Lai. But you may not like to listen to it for
long. But when there is a circle of say four beats, and that circle is repeated
again and again, you would begin to like it. Now this circle is called Taal.

 3. Matra: this is the basic unit to measure Lai. Roughly speaking, you may
call it Beat. Mostly, different taals are based on different number of Matras.
For example, Taal Kaharva is based on a circle of 8 Matras or beats, while
Dadra has 6 beats. The most popular taal of Indian Classical Music, the Teen
Taal has 16 beats.
Thus, in Indian Music, the continuous flow of equal Matras or beats
is called Lai, and a circle based on a particular number of beats is called
talls.

4. Shruti: Shruti is a minute pitch or a microtone, which the human ear
is capable of recognizing. Theoretically, there are 22 Shruties in Indian Scale
of notes.

5. Swara: the term Swara refers to the Musical Notes. Basically, these
notes are 7 in number. As we know, in Western Music these 7 notes are roughly
known as C, D, E, F, G, A and B. Similarly, in Indian Music, they are called
Shadaj, Rishabh, Gandhar, Madhyam, Pancham, Dhaivat and Nishaad. These 7 notes
are better known by there shorter names or nick names, such as Sa, Re, Ga, Ma,
Pa, Dha and Ni.

In Western Music, when a particular note changes its pitch slightly on
to lower side, it is called Flat Note. Likewise, when it attains slightly
higher pitch, it is called Sharp Note. The original pitch of a note is called
Natural Note. Likewise, in Indian Music, Natural Note is called Shuddha Swara,
Flat note is called Komal Swara and thee Sharp Note is called Teevra Swara.
Unlike Western Music, in Indian Music the notes Sa and Pa [C and G] can never
change their pitch, since they are regarded as the Basic Notes. The four notes
that can attain a Komal status are Re, Ga, Dha and Ni, [D, E, A and B].
Similarly, only the note Ma [F] is allowed to attain a slightly higher pitch in
order to attain Teevra Status.

6. Raag or Raga: when a group of 5 to 7 notes is governed by certain rules to
make it attractive and pleasing to the ears, it is called Raga in Indian Music.
In raga, notes are governed by a definite system, and you can make different
Musical compositions in the same Raga following that system. These compositions
would then be regarded as based on the same Raga. Following the same rules, you
can improvise freely in that particular Raga.
  7. Composition: Indian Musical compositions are basically divided
in to 2 parts, out of wich the main part is called Sthaee, which is repeated
most frequently in the performance. The second part or the stanza is called
Antra.
8. Improvisation: Indian Music provides artists with utmost freedom
to improvise and show their creativity. Indian artists are even allowed to make
any desired changes in the traditional compositions. That is why they are not
required to follow any written notation while performing. To reproduce a
particular composition, they usually rely on their memory.
Indian Musical Improvisation is basically divided in to the following
parts:

[A] Alap: the slow improvisation of the notes of a raag is called Alap. It can
be either brief or detailed depending on the desire of the artist and the
performing time at his disposal.

[B] Behlava: Behlava means the small and spontaneous rhythmic pieces of
improvisation, after which the artist comes back to the basic composition in
the most artistic manner.

[C] Taan or Tora: the fast rhythmic improvisations are called Tans in
Vocal Music and Toras in Instrumental Music. They are generally performed in a
rhythmic pattern faster than the rythm of the main composition.

It used to be that you would have to stop and ask for directions if
you got lost, but thanks to GPS systems this is no longer necessary.
Unfortunately, main stream stand alone GPS devices are not accessible
to the blind, and up until recently, accessible GPS options were too
expensive for most blind people to purchase. With Apple's iPhone and
Google's Android phones featuring out-of-the-box accessibility, there
are now multiple low cost accessible GPS applications available. For
the next few weeks I will cover what I think are some of the best GPS
options for both of these platforms.

There are three applications on the iPhone that can be used either by
themselves, or together to help the blind arrive at their destination.
These include Navigon, Sendero LookAround, and Skobbler.

Navigon is a full GPS solution. Its features include turn by turn
navigation, virtual navigation of route, POI (Point of Interest)
selection for destinations, and much more. Sendero LookAround helps
the user learn their current location, their nearest cross street,
nearest POI's, and compass direction. This application was also
designed with the blind in mind. Finally, Skobbler is a turn by turn
GPS option that uses an open source map instead of maps loaded on the
phone. Although this application is free, it is missing many features
present in the other two applications, but could still be useful in
certain situations.

Although accessibility on the Android platform is not as good as the
iPhone, they are making some great progress. On Android phones there
are two applications that the blind can use to help them navigate.
WalkyTalky gives spoken walking directions, and intersection explorer
allows you to virtually navigate before venturing out. Both of these
are free in the Android Market.

Next week I will go into more detail about the iPhone applications.
Happy travels.

[AI] [The vOICe] Seeing into the future, Second Sight Argus II $100, 000 retinal implant to go on sale in Europe

2011-01-15 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hi friends, As we all have been praying and hoping, after reading the following
article I feel that we have come at least one step closer towards the
fulfillment of our combined ultimate wish!
Warm regards.
   Yogesh.

Seeing with Sound - The vOICe
http://www.seeingwithsound.com/winvoice.htm

Seeing into the future.

Medical technology: The first commercial retinal implant is about to go on sale.
It may be crude, but so were the first cochlear implants, 26 years ago.

December 9, 2010.

THAT it is possible to have a phone conversation with someone who is deaf shows
just how far cochlear implants have come. Today?s devices, which are routinely
implanted, can stimulate the auditory nerve across a broad range of frequencies.
This allows users to hear and understand speech in noisy environments, without
needing to lip-read, and even to hear and appreciate music in many cases. But
the earliest cochlear implants could do none of this; instead they merely
provided some basic sounds to assist with lip-reading. Nevertheless, when they
first received clinical approval, 26 years ago, they were hailed as a medical
miracle. Now retinal implants are at a similar point, as the first such device
is about to be granted clinical approval in Europe and will then go on sale.

The device, called the Argus II, is by no means a cure for blindness, says
Robert Greenberg, the chief executive and co-founder of Second Sight, the
company in Sylmar, California, that developed it. It is intended for use by
people who have lost their sight as a result of retina-wasting diseases such as
retinitis pigmentosa, and like the earliest cochlear implants it is designed to
provide only some basic sensory assistance. But despite its limitations all 30
of the people who have received the Argus II as part of clinical trials can, at
the very least, now see changes in light levels and detect objects. This means
that they can navigate around obstacles, find doorways, see parked or moving
cars and look at someone?s head when talking to them. A handful of them can even
read large print.

For the researchers who have spent many years developing these devices, and for
the hundreds of thousands of blind people who stand to gain from them, the
approval of the Argus II will mark an important turning-point. ?The blind
community have been waiting for this for decades,? says Lyndon da Cruz, a
consultant retinal surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, who has already
implanted seven of the devices as part of the trials. ?It?s almost unbelievable
that it?s coming to market,? he says. ?Very few people would have expected that
there could be an artificial retinal device on the market by 2011.?

To get this approval Second Sight had to show that the benefits of the device
outweighed the potential risks, says Dr Greenberg. The principles behind retinal
implants are well established, he says. But it is one thing to build a prototype
to demonstrate these principles and quite another creating a device that can be
implanted for long-term use.

There are several different ways to build a retinal implant, but all of them use
the same underlying mechanism. By electrically stimulating remaining healthy
nerve cells in the retina using an electrode, sensations of light can be
elicited in the person?s visual field, thus mimicking the action of
light-sensitive photoreceptors that were damaged by disease. The more electrodes
you have, the more dots the person sees (the Argus II has 60). And so if you
place enough of them in a rectangular array, and zap them according to signals
fed wirelessly from a camera mounted in a pair of spectacles worn by the
subject, blocky images start to take shape.

A number of research groups have demonstrated this over the past couple of
decades, but until now none has managed to develop a retinal-array interface
that could be left safely in the body, says Mr. da Cruz. The problem is not
simply that the interface might pose a risk to the patient?the device must also
be robust enough to survive within the harsh environment of the body. Dr
Greenberg likens it to designing a television set that can be thrown into the
sea and will not only continue to work but will do so for decades to come.

Second Sight has succeeded by building on several decades of research into
implantable devices and other neural interfaces, such as pacemakers and cochlear
implants. The Argus I, Second Sight?s first experimental prototype, actually
used a signal processor originally designed for cochlear implants. (It had just
16 electrodes, was implanted in six patients and was never intended for market.)
The company was founded in 1998 by Dr Greenberg and Sam Williams, an American
philanthropist and engineer who suffered from retinitis pigmentosa and was
frustrated by the slow pace of public research efforts. Sadly Dr Greenberg?s
co-founder died in 2009, just a year short of realizing his goal of creating a
commercial retinal implant.

[AI] Strange Behavior Of Jaws With Regard To A Particular File

2010-12-24 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hello friends, some time back I posted a mail regarding strange behavior of
Jaws especially while copying one particular file, but unfortunately that query
is still unreplied, as I got no response for the same from any friend. Hence
pasting here my old mail once again and hoping this time you will kindly reply
with an early solution:--

Hello dear friends, I just forwarded a mail from Retina India regarding Jean
Therapy For Age Related Macular Degeneration. Hope you find it informative.
Now I have a strange problem regarding this mail. As I try to copy
its contents in to M S Word and press Insert + Down Arrow to read it, my P C
curser starts reading the copied matter in a strange accent. But when I use
JAWS curser to read it, then JAWS reads it in its original accent without any
problem. I even tried to copy the contents of some other mails in to M S Word,
and there I faced no such problem. I fail to understand as to why JAWS behaves
strangely especially in case of this particular mail! I am using Windows X P
Service Pack 3 and M S Office 2000 along with JAWS 10. Hope my learned and
experienced friends will oblige with an early reply. Thanks in advance.

Subject: [Accessible Devices] Upcoming Press Release

We understand that the following information will be released soon. This
is all we know.
Introducing DocuScan Plus Affordable, portable and feature rich access to
the printed
word has long been a challenge for blind consumers. The ideal solution is
one which
is easy to use, has a number of compelling features, can be used at home
or on the
go, and doesn’t break the bank. There has never been a single product
which fits
each of these criteria, until now. Serotek’s DocuScan Plus is an OCR
solution which
provides quick and accurate results and can be used from anywhere with a
wide variety
of supported devices. You can use a traditional plug and play scanner, an
automatic
document feeder, a duplex scanner, an iPhone, or even a document camera to
scan your
materials. Best of all, you don’t even have to be at your own computer to
use the
product. As a cloud-based solution, docuScan Plus can be accessed from any
computer,
and as long as your scanning device has native Windows drivers, no
additional software
need be installed on the machine. Students and professionals need access
to a wide
variety of materials, ranging from one-page handouts to bills and other
mail, to
textbooks and other lengthy documents. DocuScan Plus has scanning modes to
suit each
of these needs. Simple scan allows the user to quickly scan a small amount
of material,
review it, and either save or discard it. Batch scan is perfect for
materials like
textbooks or product manuals. A user can scan a large number of pages and
OCR is
performed in the background. The recognized document can then be saved for
later
editing. The AutoRead mode is ideal for those who want to review materials
as they
are being scanned. The document will automatically begin reading the first
recognized
page, and the user can continue scanning pages even as the material which
has already
been recognized is read. A user can even create a profile with OCR
settings which
work best on a particular type of document, and save this profile to use
each time
that document type is encountered. Whether scanning a one-sided page with
a single
collumn, or a complex two-sided document with multiple collumns, DocuScan
Plus returns
fast and accurate results. The use of DocuScan Plus is not restricted to
paper documents.
The product also supports the reading of PDF files, whether they are
resident on
a hard drive or accessed from a browser. There’s no need to use Adobe
Reader. Any
of the material recognized by DocuScan Plus can be saved to online
storage, emailed
to yourself or someone else, and can even be converted to Daisy, MP3, or
BRF format
for reading from a portable device. In addition to supporting a wealth of
Twwain-compliant
scanners, DocuScan Plus can also be used with a portable document camera.
This camera
interfaces with a computer over USB, and it takes a snapshot of the
material in focus.
The camera can automatically detect that a page has been turned and
capture the next
image, and can even be used in Live Camera mode to magnify images on the
page for
low vision users. The camera is lightweight and can easily be carried in a
small
backpack. For those who don’t want to carry an extra device but still want
to be
able to read menus and the like, DocuScan Plus can be used with a phone on
the Android
or iOS platforms. The user simply snaps a picture from the phone, which is
then sent
to Serotek’s server to be processed. The text results are sent back to the
user’s
phone within a matter of seconds. As with other scanned material, the
results can
be stored online for later viewing by the user, or discarded if no longer
needed.
Given this impressive list of features, you might expect DocuScan Plus to
cost upwards
of $2000 which would be competitively priced with existing AT products of
this type,
but this is not the case. For just $299 for the DocuScan Plus software and
$499 for
the optional document camera, a student or professional can be equipped
with a powerful
OCR solution that can be used absolutely anywhere. This means that if a
computer
is available in a library, Internet café, classroom, boardroom, or
anywhere else,
it is appropriate for use with DocuScan Plus. This product can be
purchased as a
standalone, or in conjunction with other Serotek products. For more
information about

DocuScan Plus and other Serotek products, please visit
www.serotek.com

[AI] Fw: URGENT: Questions to the Committee

2010-11-15 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Respected Madam, a few months back, in reply to an other mail forwarded by you,
I posted some suggestions of mine to be forwarded to the members of the

their destination or not. Hence I am forwarding my old mail once again:--

Subject: URGENT: Questions to the Committee

Respected Madam, reference your mail forwarded by Ms. Vaishnavi Jayakumar, I
wish to present my viewpoint on the following:--

Point 10. Safe and healthy work conditions--Protection from Harassment and
Redress of Grievances:--

It has been found in many instances in different states as well as
in union territories that although special officers have been appointed with
the designation of commissioners For Disabilities, yet mostly persons
appointed to this position are generally either noncompassionate to the
disabled persons whosoever approach them with their problems, or those officers
are not fully aware of their powers, duties and responsibilities. In most of
the cases it has been observed that these so called commissioners don't even
bother to resolve the problems of the disabled in the stipulated period.
Instead, they are more bothered about pleasing their seniors in order to obtain
more influential positions. Hence it is recommended that a suitable and
influential line of help and co-operation should be available to the disabled
persons in case their grievances are not redressed at the commissioner level.

   Point 13. Offences and Penalties:--

Which wrongful acts would you want explicitly punished in the Act?

These days, the most dreadful and hateful social crime generally
committed against disabled youth is normal girls marrying working disabled boys
only to desert them later and flee with all their jewelry and other valuables;
and not only that, later on filing legal suits against their disabled husbands
in order to grab hefty sums as lifetime maintenance. There should be a strong
and vigilant law in favor of the disabled boys so as to protect them from this
blatant social injustice! At least 7 years of imprisonment and a fine at least
upto 5 lacks should be imposed on the defaulter wives in such cases.

What are your suggestions on creative sanctions other than fine
and imprisonment which should be used to obtain conformity with the law?

In my humble opinion, the defaulters should be sentenced to work in
some good organizations striving for the welfare of the disabled. Still, if the
culprits are found not complying with their duty sincerely, then the soul
punishment should be rigorous imprisonment.

Hope the above mentioned views will find a sutable place in your
drafts, and later on, the act itself.

2010-11-09 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
A very warm hi to Laz, Vetri and all friends, thank you very much for your
elaborate replies. I have one more curiosity. What do we mean by iTunes? is it
a multi media software? if yes, how is it different from other multi media

is an other file type, then how is it different from other multi media files?
Kindly oblige with an early elaborate reply.

2010-11-08 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hi friends, I would feel highly obliged if you will find some time to satisfy
some curiosities of mine regarding the i pot and its utility. My queries are
are as under:

1. Is there any utility of i pot other than listening to music or daisy books?
2. If listening to Music and DAISY books is the only purpose served by i pot,
then what is the difference between an i pot and a DAISY book player like
ANGEL?
3. Which is a better alternative out of a Multi media mobile, a DAISY player an
i pot and why?
I am asking these questions since my own personal knowledge about DAISY
player and i pot is quite elementary. Hence I await an early reply from all
learned friends. So kindly oblige by sharing your vast knowledge.
Warm regards.

Driverless Cars: The Future of
Independence

How often have you heard people over sixty say that they can no
longer drive after dark? How many accidents have been caused by aging
drivers with failing vision or people becoming distracted behind the
wheel? With a rapidly aging population and dwindling budgets for
public transportation, viable transportation solutions for people with
disabilities will be in great demand and will become a necessity. With
new technological developments, driverless cars may be the solution to
the problem.

By utilizing GPS, the cars would be able to map out routes and
special sensors would detect when objects are in front or back of the
car. Each car would have accessibility in mind for aging and disabled
drivers. Braille, large print, or talking software would be included
so that any driver could successfully operate the vehicle. For
security purposes, cars could require a personal code or password,
which would allow only certain drivers to operate the car. The car's
computer would ask the driver for a destination and the rest could be
taken care of by speed-sensing radar and unique software. If there was
oncoming traffic, the computer would know to slow down so that
accidents would no longer occur.

Just imagine the sense of freedom getting in to your own car and it
driving you to your desired destination. Our aging population would be
spared yearly eye exams to prove they can still drive. The worry of
being totally dependent on family members or para-transit would
disappear. It would break down barriers; no longer would we use the
excuse in applying for jobs, of I cannot get there. The NFB, Naas,
Google, and car-makers are seriously working to develop a driverless
car in the U.S. and across the globe. Moreover, everyone, disabled or
not, would benefit from these cars. The issue of distracted driving
will become irrelevant. Drivers will become passengers as they sit
back listening to music, conducting business, or surfing the internet
while being transported to their destination.

In 2070 and beyond, these cars will be common and accidents will be
rare, because all cars will sense all objects behind and in front of
them. They will be everywhere, and as common computers are now in
2010. This invention will give everyone a now-undreamed-of sense of
independence.

What an exciting future for our children and grand children. I do
hope to see the start of this new revolution in my lifetime.

[AI] Problem In Downloading Large Files From Dropbox

2010-10-25 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hi dear friends, since yesterday night I have been trying to download a large
file of 445 mb from Dropbox. As the download starts,it shows the total download
time approximately 4 and a half hour. After approximately every ten minutes, on
pressing Insert + t, Jaws only says title is. and I have to press Alt + tab
to move the focus back to the download field. But, after the download is 20 to
30 percent complete, Jaws suddenly says 85 percent, 98 percent, 99 percent,
100 percent in quick succession, and the download stops somewhere in between.
Kindly explain as to why it happens and how can I remedy it? I am using Windows
xp service pack 3 and Jaws 10.
Awaiting an early reply from all learned friends,
Yours, Yogesh.

Hello sir, regarding this very important point raised by you, I just wish to
quote my own experience, wherein I had to undergo medical verification firstly
for my appointment in a private college and secondly at the time of my
appointment as permanent lecturer in Govt College for women, Ludhiana. In both
these instances, after my complete medical check up, the civil surgeon clearly
wrote in my fitness certificate, the candidate has been found fully fit except
his visual impairment, which is in no way a hindrance in the due performance of

[AI] Fw: [blindCity] amazing! Google tests self-driving car

Subject: [blindCity] amazing! Google tests self-driving car

All,

I was just very excited by what this might mean for blind and partially sighted
people!

Google tests self-driving car
The internet giant is extending its reach with research into a car that drives
itself.
By Bill Berkrot, Reuters, 11 Oct 2010 at 08:28

Google, the world's largest internet search engine, has been tinkering with
engines of another sort and come up with some futuristic results - a car that
drives itself.

Google, in a posting on its official blog, said it had developed the technology
and been busy testing a fully automated car that would take the controls out of
the hands of distracted drivers, leaving them free to text, eat or apply
make-up to their heart's content.

Our goal is to help prevent traffic accidents, free up people's time and
reduce carbon emissions by fundamentally changing car use, Google said on its
blog.

The automated cars use video cameras, radar sensors and a laser range finder to
see other traffic, as well as detailed maps to navigate the road ahead.

The futuristic autos have already been tested on the heavily trafficked
California roadways - including highways, bridges and busy city streets. They
have even navigated San Franciso's famed Lombard Street, a tourist favourite
known as the nation's most dramatically winding address.

All in all, our self-driving cars have logged over 140,000 miles, Google said.

All of the test runs have had a driver behind the wheel just in case. The
driver can take over as easily as one disengages cruise control, Google said,
adding test drives had also included a trained software operator in the
passenger seat to monitor the software.

Google said it believed its self-driving cars might one day cut by half the
more than one million traffic fatalities suffered each year.

For those ready to shell out hard-earned cash for one of the first self driving
autos, Google said the project is very much in the experimental stage
providing only a glimpse of what transportation might look like in the future.

It remains to be seen whether Google investors, who have been concerned by the
company's spending, will applaud its automotive aspirations. The company missed
Wall Street's earnings estimates in the second quarter and is due to report
third quarter results later this we

Re: [AI] regarding formatting memory card

2010-10-12 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hi Sandeep, To me it appears as if you or somebody else has applied some
password to your memory card. Try the following:

1. Insert the memory card in to the phone and start the phone.
2. After Talks start, press the menu button and nevigate to the folder named
Extras.
3. Press down the joy stick to enter this folder. Now press options [The left

Hopefully that should solve the problem.

Subject: {Retina India Connect} Google provides the visually-impaired with
two new sets of Android Eyes

hi mates,
posting here after quite a lot of days.
hope the following should interest you, it looks promising to me.

Google provides the visually-impaired with two new sets of Android Eyes
---

Google has released two new Android applications designed to help the
blind and visually impaired with walking directions, pairing Google
Maps with GPS
navigation technology. The applications are
WalkyTalky
(from Google's Eyes-Free Project) and
Intersection Explorer.

Here's how Google describes them:

WalkyTalky
WalkyTalky is an Android application that speaks the address of nearby
locations as you pass them. It also provides more direct access to the
walking directions
component of Google Maps. With WalkyTalky installed, you can:
• Launch WalkyTalky to specify a destination,
• Either specify the destination by address, or pick from favorites or
recently visited locations,
• And in addition to spoken walking directions,
• Hear street addresses as you walk by.

These spoken updates, in conjunction with the walking directions that
are spoken by Google Maps help users navigate the physical world as
efficiently as
they navigate the Internet.

Intersection Explorer
Using this application, users can explore any neighborhood on Google
Maps via touch.
• Intersection Explorer starts off at the user's current location.
• One can change the start position by entering an address, to do
this, press menu and click on new location.
• Once the map has loaded, touching the screen speaks the streets at
the nearest intersection.
• Moving one's finger along a compass direction, and then tracing a
circle speaks each street at that intersection along with the
associated compass direction.
• Presence of streets is cued by a slight vibration as one traces the
circle.

• Lifting up the finger when on a street moves in that direction to
the next intersection, speaks the distance moved, and finally speaks
the newly arrived-at
intersection.
Intersection Explorer sounds like a way to preview the landscape,
before you actually get there.

Both apps are free, and are in the Android Market now.

cheers!
prateek agarwal.

Re: [AI] There is noone who is listening to classical music? or

2010-10-10 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Dear Neelima and other friends, I am deeply touched by Neelima's thought
provoking mail about the immense value and everlasting significance of Indian
Classical Music.[sorry for reading this mail today only]. I even read Mr.
Pradeep Banekar's informative tributary mails about Late Pundit Putraj Gavai,
who, inspite of being visually challenged and having a flood of obstacles in
his tedious path, not only went to gain perfection and world wide acclaim for
his immortal Music, but even paved the way for hundreds of visually challenged
curious aspirants to learn and perfect this Divine Art under his own guidance
and also to follow the path shown by their Grate Guru! [I am sure all of you
have read my late reply to Mr. Pradeep Banekar's Mails also].
As regards the so called DJ designed music of today,it is definitely
a pass time and stands nowhere when compared to our own Heavenly Music, which,
right from the Vedic Times till today, has been successful in blessing its
lovers with Param Aananda; and not only that, even helping them to connect
their souls with the all mighty [The Nirakaar Par Brahmma]. It is a real pity
that we Indians learn to value and respect our own culture and heritage only
after the Westerners start to recognize and follow it first! Otherwise we
always take pleasure in making crude imitations of Western culture and posing
ourselves to be ultra modern.
Maybe most of you would be amused to know that A. R. Rehmaan's
Oscar Winning composition, Jai Ho [from the movie Slum Dog Millionaire],
which has actually been copied from the much revered Western composer, Mozart's
Symphony 40, is quite similar to our very own Raag Bhairvi, a melody which is
being sung and played in Indian Classical Music for centuries.
So, Neelima, on behalf of all my friends in Access India, I assure
you that although there are a lot of Indian Music lovers on the list, but I
fail to understand why they always prefer to remain silent about it. Once again
I express my sincerest thanks to my friend Pradeep Banakar for enlightening the
list about the immortal contributions of Pundit Puttraj Gavai not only for the
Music World in general, but also for the V I community in particular.
Warm regards.
  Yogesh Sharma.

Re: [AI] Pandit Puttaraj Gavai the leading light of music passed Away

2010-09-30 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Although I and my younger sister have read this mail quite late, yet our hearts
go all out to pay a solemn tribute to Pandit Puttaraj Gavai, a historical
legend of modern time. It is a grate loss to the Music world in general, and
also a disgrace to media as well as our limited knowledge that we have come to
know of such a divine and never-tiring scholar and reformer so late! May his
soul rest in heaven and his grate endeavors be carried forth with all the
sincerity and dedication by his successors!
Immortal personalities like Pandit Gavai are a colossal example for
most of us, since they teach us to be recognized not by our disability, but by
our capabilities and our sincerity towards our aims and objectives in life. His
immense knowledge as a scholar as well as his immense capabilities as a
performer shall always make us bow our heads in reverence to this super human
being of modern age! Last but not the least, our sincere thanks to our friend,
Mr. Pradeep Banekar for enlightening us about the greatness of this noble soul!

Re: [AI] Problem with downloading files from DropBox

2010-07-12 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Dear Govind, Right now I am downloading your first book,; Angels And Demons. It
is working fine. Ofcourse it did not work when I clicked on the link in your
mail itself, but it worked fine when I copied the link from your mail and
pasted it in the address bar of Internet Explorer. Thank you very much for the
links.
Here I think I must specify that initially I was using Internet
Explorer 6, but it upgraded itself automatically from net to Version 8.

Re: [AI] help needed arjjently to my n72

2010-07-12 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Dear Timy, I also have the same problem in my Nokia 3230 handset. According to
some of my techy friends, it usually happens when the phone memory of your
phone is overburdened. According to some people, your handset can be started
with the help of a software called Flash. But that process is risky and it can
also result in making the handset totally dead.
Generally this problem does not get resolved without formatting your
handset. But in that process all the data that you have stored in your mobile
gets deleted. If you have taken the backup on to your memory card, it is very
fine. Otherwise I am afraid you have to lose your data.
To format your handset, do the following:--
1. Take out the battery, sim card and memory card from your phone.
2. now Insert the battery only.
3. now press the star key and the green key with your right hand and the number
3 key with your left hand.
4. While pressing all these keys, press the power key with your thumb.
5. Your set will start and Nokia will be displayed on your screen. Don't
release any key. Keep pressing all these four keys until your screen shows the
word formatting. Ofcourse you will have to take sighted assistance in this
process.
6. After formatting is displayed, release all the keys. wait until Your screen
turns blue gradually.
7. After the formatting is complete, your screen will show Insert sim card.
That means the formatting is complete.
8. Now pull out the battery once again, insert your sim card, memory card and
the battery.
9. Switch on the mobile. It will start normally. Set the date and time.
10. press the menu key and scroll down to the Talks folder.
11. Here press the joy stick to select it. It should start speaking again and
start reading the license agreement. Don't bother. Just press the options key
and select manual registration. Now scroll down once and enter the serial key
of Talks.
12. Press Okay and it should say :talks has been installed and enabled
successfully.
If there is some problem, feel free to contact me on the details given at the
end of this mail.
All the best.
Sincerely yours, Yogesh Sharma.

Re: [AI] question on how to retreve data from a crashed hard disk

2010-07-08 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Dear Austin, There can be many interpretations of the hard disk getting
crashed. For example:
1. there can be too many bad sectors in the hard disk, which render it
unworthy of use.
2. The small diskettes inside the hard disk have been damaged, or their
movement is hampered.
3. Windows doesn't start, and hence you can't know as too what is the condition
of the data that it contains.
4. Window can not be re-installed.
5. The partitioning of the hard disk is lost and it doesn't show any particular
drive or drives.
6. You are hearing some sounds from it.
So, first tell us what symptoms you are witnessing. Only than can the
remedies be suggested.
Regards.
Yogesh.

Re: [AI] info needed for blue tooth

2010-07-07 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Dear Prof. Jassal, I think you must be wanting to transfer your files from the
computer on to the memory card of your mobile rather than on to the phone
memory, as the phone memory has a rather limited space. the best way to
transfer files from computer on to mobile is through memory card reader. You
can get a decent memory card reader at a cost of merely Rs. 50 to 70 from any
shop dealing in simple electronics or mobile accessories. All you have to do is
to pull out your memory card from the handset and plug it in to the appropriate
slot available in the card reader. The card reader has to be plugged in to the
U S B port of your system. If everything falls in perfect place, you
immediately hear a message from JAWS stating various options available as to
what you want to do with the card. You can just proceed on as you like. Hope
it helps.
Regards,
 Yours, Yogesh Sharma.

Re: [AI] mobile with talking software

2010-07-05 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Hi Jignesh, I too second Dr. Padmanabham's view regarding E 63, since it is
decidedly better as compared to C 5 with regard to talks support. Although I
have not used it personally, but I am pasting here the mail buy Mr. K.
Nageshwarya, who is using it. However, I would advise you to examine it
personally before purchasing it.
Regards,
   Yogesh.

I've been using Nokia E63 for the last 7 months quite successfully. Those who
have typing and/or computer knowledge can master it quickly. Chr key, function
key, edit key, delete key, ctrl key are some of the useful keys in the handset.
Besides, built-in accessibility features such as Voice Aide and say caller's
name are also worth noting. There're one touch keys for emailing, reading new
messages, calendar, contacts, etc. I make good use of the dictionary. But
there're some problems with the arrow keys.

[AI] Difference Between IPhone, Smart Phone, 3 G S and 4 g Phones, Apple Phone and Windows Mobile

2010-07-04 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Dear learned friends, Although we have been reading a lot about the modern
high-tech mobile handsets, yet I would feel obliged if you will please satisfy
my following queries about the above mentioned types of latest mobile
handsets:--
1. how do the windows mobile, 3 G and 3 G S phones, IPhones and Smart Phones
differ from one an other? I mean is it only the brand name or some extra
features which differentiate them?

2. Are all these touch screen phones? if yes, what is the position of their
screen reader support? are all of them screen reader friendly?
3. Which one is the best out of all these high-tech mobiles and why?

4. Are all of them available in India? if yes, what is their approximate price
range?

5. How far are their advanced features supported by Indian service providers?

6. Given the present scenario, what can be the specific reasons for a V I
person to switch over from a normal mobile to these advanced handsets?
A detailed and point by point reply would be highly appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

Re: [AI] Pls Advise - Case of Shalini Sethi from Delhi

2010-07-02 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Dear friends, I fully agree with Akhil that it is not only Shalini's problem,
but it can happen to anyone of us at any time in any form! so this matter can
not be ignored or avoided by simply remaining silent over it!
firstly, I would advise Shalini to collect some documentary proof of her
efficiency as a bank employee. It can be in any form--may be some letters of
gratitude or recommendations from some of her regular clients in bank, because
maybe her opponents have some documents [Although false] against her.
As suggested by Subramani and Akhil, it can be very effective to publicize
the injustice done in Shalini's case including the callousness on the part of
Commissioner for Disabilities. Contacting some TV news channels and appearing
in interviews through them would definitely help a lot.
Giving written representations to local politicians can definitely
help, since the M L A.s or M.P.s can definitely give the culprits a nice doze
of jolts and force them to behave themselves.
Lastly, resorting to court for justice also can not be ruled out. Since
Vaishnavi has presented full documentary details of the case, I would request
our friends from the Legal Fraternity also to give their valuable comments and
suggestions, regardless of whichever part of the country they are from.
Regards.
  Yogesh Sharma.

Re: [AI] Naming aCD

2010-06-24 Thread Dr. Yogesh Sharma
Dear Jeevraj, Regarding naming a CD through Nero, what happens in my case is
that when I type a different name for a CD instead of My Disk, and try tabbing
down to the burn button, I find that Back Button is highlighted instead of Burn
Button. To correct that, I have to cancel the whole process and repeat it again
without renaming the CD. Only then can I reach the burn button through tab. Is
there any remedy for that?
Thanks and regards,
