If anything shoots back or has the ability to do so most of them aren’t too
interested in that from what I’ve experienced. They get very upset if you
don’t disclose if you had bullets or guns in the fire they’re working. If they
find out they pull all of the fire fighters out.

I’d be interested to see what a Department of Education Task Force or Police
Force would look like to protect schools on a federal level.

But I’m all for 1st responders actually responding instead of spending their
time fighting parents who want to go in and help save lives. I’m also for
raising the age that a person can obtain a semi-automatic rifle and I’d like
some kind of health screening done to obtain them.

I have no problem passing a mental health screening to obtain anymore.

Just my opinion

Not a totally terribly idea..

I should point out that the city of Sunnyvale California eliminated the "fire
department" many years ago (we lived in Sunnyvale until 1996). They have
"Public Safety Officers". These officers patrol the city in police cruisers,
and where they roam is determined by an algorithm that attempts to predict
where they might be needed. Each officer has their fire fighting gear in the
trunk of the cruiser so that if there's a fire, they will be ready.

They city saved an enormous amount of money by combining the two departments,
and their success rate is very good.

The biggest problem is that people have created a barrier with politics to
unlove people. No one is allowed to just have an opinion. It has to be this
emotional debate of the ages and if you’re not all in then you’re all out.

All politicians lie. Bush lied to people, Obama lied to people, Trump lied and
Biden has lied and is lying. From pro-life to flat earther to BLM all of the
people hating on each other have no humility or severely lack in it.

I’ve watched all these sides willing to kill or die to be able or not be able
to kill or die.

It’s all sad and with social media gas lighting the most miniscule things it’s
not going away.

If I went and shunned my father because he truly believed Jimmy Carter was
going to do good when he voted for him and it ended with my dad starving I
wouldn’t have a relationship with, in my opinion, is the best dad a guy could
have.

I don’t know about any of you but I’m out there in the world to create change
and help people in my community. I hope anyone complaining about the world
isn’t just sitting in their recliner and they’re doing the same thing.

I hope you all have a great day.

Never expected I would not be able to speak my mind at family dinners

Feel like I was convicted in absentia, thrown in the hole for a

Odd times

I loved my parents and grandparents.

Never felt they had to earn it.

Never would have thought of condemning them for the things they said.

Funny, I have a sister that lives 1000 miles from me. Our families

So we had already started to process of having a SAS account with google for
access to the toolset (you can have an account, no fee, even if you have no
registered CBSDs) so we were going to go with them even though it seemed like
getting into a second burning plane after the first one crashed.

Then I got some info, Federated apparently has really good logging as far as
what is taking place. So if you come in one morning with 20 customers down
because an AP dropped its power after CPAS, you can find out quickly the what
and why of it.

So we are going with federated as our SASand just going to use the free toolset

This.

Also my first con was that Google rolls up products all the time when they do
their yearly audits. I really don’t want to do this again.

Both are WISPA members. As a SAS it doesn't really matter if you're GAA in my
opinion. Google has worked for me but there's no such thing as support for a
Google product. Federated has warm chairs for you to contact.

I’m sitting here wondering how I missed this in CPI training. I believed that
what was supposed to be “registered” was a CBSD which had specific height
requirements and type which these units aren’t exceeding these specifications.
 Yes the product is Baicells.

Anyone else here that uses Baicells gone down this road too with a similar
assumption?

With Baicells LTE it's possible to leave the CPE in non-CBRS mode (either by
not enabling it, or by just never upgrading the firmware to the CBRS capable
version), and they'll connect to a CBRS eNB just fine... I wouldn't be
surprised if that's true for some of the other LTE products too.

I think mobile devices don’t need to be registered. Since Andy
mentioned eNB I’m guessing maybe he’s got an LTE product, and maybe the vendor
allows you to pretend the UE are all mobile?

Double walls, so really there are three cavities. Two walls with an air space

triple glazed windows. I read a report on these homes being built in Canada.
They didn’t need much heat.

I’ve wondered how long firewood wood really last if everyone was trying to use
it. Wasn’t there a firewood crisis in the 19th century before they started
using coal for everything?

I think reliance on firewood in the apocalypse comes with an implicit
assumption that everybody else died. If they haven’t died yet then expect
competition.

I don’t worry too much about water. You can’t go anywhere in the Northeast
without tripping over a stream or a spring. If the spring water is
contaminated then so is the well water and you’re screwed either way.

How much is triple insulation? Does that mean R57 in the walls instead of R19?

Triple insulated home can be heated by only the bodies inside.

Most areas (other than where I live) there may be wood to burn. You could
always use a parabolic solar cooker for cooking.

Solar hydronic. Solar electric. Water is the huge thing. Need to pump a
well.

I think move to the tropics where you can eat off the land/sea and run around
naked all the time. That is a good solution to the end of the world.

Not much of a prepper anymore. Too old I guess. Plus I have an odd condition

That said, the last time I checked, propane and wood pellets cost half that of

3.41 BTU per watt for resistive heating. Heat pump gives you way more heat per
watt. That is why most of the electric cars have gone to heat pumps for the
heater. The heat pump Tesla will run the heater for 36 hours and still leave
you with enough battery to get home in many cases.

of times. But I think shes dead jim.

I needed a cheap door for the office I built so I got a cheap storm door.

Looking at the storm window I think making a glass whiteboard from a storm
window would be tits. Can get a base drawing then slide the glass up and note
over the drawing. I cant say how many times I wished I could overlay my
whiteboard notes.

Before I go full ghetto and fasten a storm window to my wall, do they make a
sliding glass whiteboard that doesnt break the bank?

I like the idea of glass because windex works and it never needs the surface
renewed after something sat on it for 10 months.

If they’re saying there’s no pin then put one on the account and use that pin.

Find a carrier who's willing to be a cowboy and just do it?

At least twice Time Warner Cable ported a number without having an LOA or even
an order. Both were situations where the customer filled out an inquiry form
online and someone at TWC was gung-ho to convert that lead. So I deduce that
carriers have the ability to port whenever they want, but they don't have the
authority to port whenever they want. Find someone who says "screw authority"
and pushes the button.

Hey guys,

Windstream is fighting us every step of the way with moving numbers
from them.

I currently have 2 Customers that Windstream is rejecting the port due
to incorrect PIN.

When the Customers call windstream and try to get the pin.. Windstream
states there is no PIN for their acct.

I am not able to find anything on their landline phone bill that
resembles a PIN.

Anyone had any experience with figuring out the magic passphrase the
customers can tell Windstream to get the PIN or know of another way to get the
number to port.

Thanks,

Re: [AFMUG] OT: online k12 homeschool options

2021-04-07 Thread Andy Trimmell
I was taken out of school during spring break of 7th grade by my parents
because of religious reasons. My mother homeschooled me until graduation in
1999. I started working at 14 inside the international airport at the time. I
picked up most of my social skills from working and find that public school
people are some of the most anti-social people I’ve met. I’m sure to some
people home schooled people are weird because they’re able to talk to almost
anyone. Most people now think that is weird because it’s too awkward to talk in
public like we used to back in the day. I don’t stare at my phone when I’m in a
public place and do my best to chat with people when possible.

I’m sure I’m weird to the rest of the world because I don’t curse, do drugs or
drink alcohol but it’s whatever. I’ve done well.

My current "trouble ticketing" system at
packetflux that we use for cust...@packetflux.com continues to irritate
me on an intermittent basis. Just enough to make me want something
better, but not enough to piss me off enough to actually switch to
something new.

Part of my hesitation is that ticketing systems
seem to be like phone systems - that is, once the newness wears off, you
find all of the horribleness under the surface. The one we're using
(osticket) seems less horrible than other's we've tried.

I'm wondering if there is something out there
that I haven't tried yet which just works. Is anyone using a general
ticketing system (as opposed to something industry-specific) that
they're really happy with?

2020-09-18 Thread Andy Trimmell
The best explanation is just like the water system as well. If theres a
water main break everyone suffers, boil water, low water pressure, etc.
I usually explain the internet is a giant road system when people talk
about lag and such. "well it takes longer to drive to California than to
Chicago so yes its going to take longer" kind of thing. The "bowling
ball down a garden hose" analogy has been used a few times as well.

Interneting is as hard as adulting.

Just tried to explain to a working mother, while she was at work, with
multiple kids at home, how a DDOS works, and why I had to shut her
Internet off. My examples of how a DDOS affects the upstream circuits,
apparently were really bad, and now she think that she's 'sharing' her
internet with all her neighbors, and 'Never would have signed up if I
was just sharing with my neighbors', and 'why am I able to affect any of

my neighbors, that means they can affect me' She also said that her
internet CAN'T be shut off, if just 1 kid in the house caused the
problem, because all the other kids still need to do school. I told her

to talk to her kids about online gaming, but I'm sure in her eyes, they
are all little angels, probably just playing the Sesame Street game all
day long.

I get it, she's probably stressed, and so comprehending what I was
saying was hard. I'm running into the problem of 'this makes perfect
sense to me' So I can't come up with a better way to explain it. Does
anyone have a good analogy, or call center script to explain what is
happening?

Re: [AFMUG] 3000 MicroPOP AP

Too bad. It would have been nice to have it all in one. Having one unit coming
in and it not look any different on a roof would have been beneficial. I did
think the new mu-mimo antenna looked promising though.

This thing is pretty cool. Looks like they just robbed the guts of a 3k ap and
put it in the e500 housing. If it's got the aux port then you could use a force
300 to backhaul into it with just one power supply and cable. This would be
good for some of our hog farm customers with multiple buildings

It's been promoted to the current branch as "ePMP System Release 4.3.2.1 /
15-May-19" - no longer in the beta branch.

ePMP-GPS_Synced-v4.3.2.1.tar.gz, ePMP-NonGPS_Synced-v4.3.2.1.tar.gz is the
firmware for the EPMP1000/2000 radios, that will allow EPMP AC units to connect
to EPMP1000/2000 APs. (forward compatibility)

For the EPMP3000 AP ePMP-AC-v4.3.2.1.img allows backwards compatibility
(clients must be running the matching firmware above to connect to a 3K AP)

All EPMP1k/2k use .tar.gz for the packaging, all EPMP3k will use .IMG

For the time being, no QOS/MIR exists in this firmware, so if you consider that
not production ready like me, I see what your saying.

The descriptions don't make this very clear.

Stable release of this was a few weeks ago. Download the 2nd stable
version released 2 days ago and it will work.

Correct on being able to swap out a 1/2k AP for a 3k and all existing
epmp radios as well as elevate sm's will connect. They need to be updated to
latest version first though or they won't connect.

Upgrading only the AP without any sm's yields a 10% boost in throughput
as well as some other rf gains of at least 3db on the uplink. Latency also is
improved by 50%. This is all without swapping a single sm.

To realize mu-mimo benefits, I'd only swap your highest usage customers
so you can start realizing the 100% increase in capacity. That's our plan at
least. No point in swapping low GB usage subs to force 300 gear if they won't
see any benefit.

Lifetime Plex + Hd Homerun
(https://www.silicondust.com/product/hdhomerun-quatro/). Start up cost is a bit
high, considering you need to run Plex on a computer or NAS device that
supports it. Also see:

There is several others that are more in-depth to setup, but it works for me.

I just don’t see why something like this takes this long to accomplish. I could
have bought and shipped an actual AP to my office faster than getting a license
key. I see where you guys have circumvented the wait time but should we really
have to do that? I definitely like using the Lite APs because like you some of
them I won’t ever have to upgrade but right now #11 is sitting there waiting as
patient as a customer can. This is also the first Lite AP I’ve ever had to
upgrade. I wasn’t aware the process took this long in 2019.

If you use Lite APs, you need to just make sure you always have at least one
license key stored, and get new one ordered as soon as you use it.

It does cost a little bit more to use Lite APs and then upgrade them, but in a
lot of cases we never have to upgrade them... there's also the advantage that
if the AP dies after it's out of warranty, you can get Cambium to transfer the
license to a new Lite AP.

As far as ePMP I stock Lite radios on the shelf and 1 full in the van

full key so I can do that in a pinch. It's kind of the same money but I have
lite radios I can replace and I don't need to put up full ones in any event.

Looks informative. Your overhead camera is very blurry in comparison to your
front camera. It might help if you got a big piece of black cloth to put over
top of your wood table. Should help with the camera focusing on the wood grain
instead of the peripherals. A few times your microphone peaked and distorted.

I did like seeing the ePMP 3000 next to a person. It looks huge in comparison
to the rest of their products.

Thanks for making the video!

So I have some new videos out there of some unboxing of Cambium gear. I’d love
to get some feedback, and also be curious if anyone in the industry would like
to see other types of videos. One idea I had was starting to document tower
work and install work for infrastructure to start sharing basic stuff. Things
like cadwelding our ground, installing fiber to backhauls, mounting options on
different structures, etc. Below is a link to my latest but feel free to check
out the channel for others. There is a video of 450M 3Ghz. installed on a
tower on the channel too.

Andy,

Mind sharing exactly what tools you use to terminate ends on this cable? We
have always ordered pre-made cables, but we're interested in starting to
terminate our own. We have a spool of this same cable just sitting there doing
nothing at the moment.

Thanks,

Josh

I got some custom assemblies from Fiber Instrument Sales. It was a
"core locked" fiber, which basically means the glass is buried in an a lot of
plastic. We only got one LC duplex on each end, but I bet they could have done
2.

The lead time wasn't terribly long.

We are looking for Single mode 4 strand – 2 LC Duplex at each
end. 140 foot lengths. They will be run up inside a monopole.

Are you using armored? Outdoor? What?

Where are people getting theirs made?

Thanks

Adam

I haven't kept up on this for the past 3 years at least.

Is there a small business VoIP appliance that people like?

What about Asterisk+FreePBX distributions like PBX-in-a-Flash or
Asterisk@Home?  They kept having severe security issues with FreePBX, so
I'd be a little shy about going down that road, but if it's improved in
the past few years I'd try it again.  My other problem with FreePBX is
that it made some hard things very easy and some easy things very hard
(compared to editing asterisk config files).   I'm not sure it actually
saved me much time over using vanilla Asterisk.

Re: [AFMUG] DIA pricing

2018-09-24 Thread Andy Trimmell
DIA pricing has a lot of variables. HE isn’t going to bring 10G fiber to the
middle of nowhere but they are available in almost all of the big datacenters.
So don’t expect getting $1k/mo 10G 20 miles away from a major city where
there’s only 1-2 options available.

You can attempt to hand them a quote from an entirely different location if you
want but don’t expect them to listen. I would measure how much you’re paying a
month (ex, $3k/mo) getting a loan and getting your own fiber to the closest
datacenter.
