I thought the movie was pretty good. Quite a bit of action and pretty
nostalgic going back to the old characters at times. Watched in Dolby ATMOS
vision and sound. The theater was much bigger than some of the IMAX shows I go
to. Screen was pretty big, picture quality was bright, crisp, and good colors
with dark blacks. Sound was not as good as expected. Sounded fairly similar
to a normal showing. Was a bit pricey at $16, but I ended up getting a promo
code for the HD Digital copy when it becomes available.

I like the subtlety in the plot points. They didn't spend lots of time
explaining it like I'm 5, but gave me enough clues to piece everything together.
I'd say it was a lot headier than the the previous 2 movies.

I like that they started from year 3 of the five year missionmeaning it
begins at the end of the original series, so the timeline from the original
series could still have played out roughly the same. Although presumably they
could not have found Kahn out there.

I was a little perplexed during the Sabotage scene.but I can't really get

I remember watching it in the TV lounge of my college dorm. That must have
been the 3rd season. (Yes, college students of today, we used to all gather in
front of the one TV and vote what show to watch. No private TVs in our rooms,
and certainly no Netflix. Oh, and no coed dorms.)

If I remember right, the other must-watch evening show was Rowan & Martin’s
Laugh In. And Rocky & Bullwinkle in the morning.

I also thought the speakers are incredibly loud. Maybe even louder

The acting was supurb...the audience is very patient and of the mixed

The local advertisements and "screen vision" promos prevented parts of

Did women run up to the stage and flash their breasts? That seems to
have been a thing at Bon Jovi concerts.

Oh, and did I hear Richie Sambora left the band or died or something?

I
just went to a Bon Jovi concert about a year ago... one of the best concerts I
have ever been to... he was on stage performing for almost 3 hours straight...
pretty amazing.Travis

I have a dB spl app on my I phone. I see many movies exceeding 90
dBm and that is uncomfortable for me.

85 is a nice comfortable limit. Even with my old ears.
My kids are fine watching a move at 75 or 80.

I broke it out in church last week because I thought the organist was a
bit heavy on the gas pedal. Yep, he was hitting 92 dB.

Star Trek:. Beyond

The first thing I noticed was how ultimately large the IMAX screen
is.

I also thought the speakers are incredibly loud. Maybe even louder
than Chuck mccown's personal home theatre.

The acting was supurb...the audience is very patient and of the mixed
race variety.

The local advertisements and "screen vision" promos prevented parts of
the showing from being overly boringbut just barely.

Stay tuned for further developments / breaking news. Showing starts
in 25 minutes.

Maybe I'll even beat Mccown to the review..

IMAX is definitely cool if you end up in a 'real' IMAX theatre. Sadly
they've diluted the brand by permitting smaller screens under the IMAX
name, AND there's no way to know for sure the IMAX screen size you'll find.

And... no spoilers please. I'm not watching it until likely Sunday late,
which is our preferred time to see new releases - it seems to be one of the
lowest-attended shows, other than perhaps mid-week.

I guess it’s been awhile since I’ve been to an IMAX theater, the last time was
to see Shine A Light. Took my son. He got the genuine rock concert experience
- he was deaf for about 2 days. (although it’s tough to tell if a millennial
is deaf or just ignoring you) Your dB meter would probably have been off the
scale.

Both my kids are probably deaf because of me, I took my daughter to a Bon Jovi
concert when she was about 10 (her idea, not mine). Everyone but the two of us
were of the age to have been teenagers in 1985, I guess hair bands have a very
specific fan base.

Star Trek:. Beyond

The first thing I noticed was how ultimately large the IMAX screen is.

I also thought the speakers are incredibly loud. Maybe even louder than Chuck
mccown's personal home theatre.

The acting was supurb...the audience is very patient and of the mixed race
variety.

The local advertisements and "screen vision" promos prevented parts of the
showing from being overly boringbut just barely.

Stay tuned for further developments / breaking news. Showing starts in 25
minutes.

Maybe I'll even beat Mccown to the review..

I found the end credits to be the best part of the entire movie.
Especially in IMAX 3D. When I get a 4k 3d giant screen running at home I
might have to buy or rent this to see again.

I also get the feeling that this movie might actually be better the second
or third time watching. But I'm not going to spend money at the box
office finding out, since I found it pretty meh otherwise.

I'm also impressed by the level of marketing which is being done. I'm in
the San Francisco Bay area this week and it's everywhere. They even had a
hearse in front of the theatre in Alameda made up to look like a
ghostbuster vehicle.

If you liked the first one you would probably like this one too.
Brent Spiner was pretty good. Jeff Goldblum was OK too.
I liked that they had a similar scene out in the salt flats and
some footage from Wendover, Utah.
I had no idea Wendover, Utah was connected to area 51 by the salt

What amazes me is the change in technology versus what people went
through. The experience I'm talking about happened to me in 1968, not
quite 50 years ago.

At that time, I wore some kind of parka, and cotton long underwear, and
cotton jeans. The boots must have been pretty good, but I don't remember
what they were.

Just a couple years later, I was wearing poly-pro underwear and a full
snowmobile suit. the differences from a comfort level were like night
and day. In fact, I would joke that the suit made it uncomfortable above
-10° F.

I'll bet. I tried to go snow skiing about ten years after my frostnip. When
I got back inside my feet ached something fierce. My wife put her warm
hands on then and it felt like she was burning them with a blow torch.
Bummer.
They say whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Actually it just
makes you a little weaker and less capable each time until you are finally
just a worthless old man.
Maybe I'll go hand some scotch even though it is early ;)

It's not impossible to be in freezing water for longer periods of time.

When I was a teenager, I and a friend got a couple of snowmobiles stuck
in 18" of frozen slush when the temp was between -10 and -20 (about -10
when we got the snowmobiles stuck, and about -20 two hours later when we
gave up trying to get them completely out).

We both fell in several times, and when we got back to the nearby cabin
we were both near hypothermia. My jeans were coated with about a 1"
thick layer of ice, and my boots had frozen to my feet.

When my Dad got me home, my parents had to cut off both the jeans and
the boots. They put me in a tub of tepid water until I started looking
more normal. I did suffer some frostbite, and my feet still get cold
faster than about any other part of my body.

None-the-less, I am living proof you can get wet in freezing water, and

Certainly would not retain heat all night long. Could provide

shelter though.
OK, I guess. It appeared to have been lots of work to make. Leo
did a good job.

I did an exercise in Norway in December. Five people died due to exposure
all connected to getting wet in those black fjords and not getting dry and
warm fast enough.
I was submerged but was close enough to land to get at least dry in a few
minutes of not warm.

Yep, I was in 32 degree water with ice floating on it two times. Once for
about 90 seconds and once for about 2 minutes. It is an emergency for certain.

Yea. The most obvious flaw was the ability to jump out of freezing water and
just traipse around. You have to at least strip down and get dry clothes on to
survive.
