In NVDA, you can go to desktop, then tab till you ge to system tray. Using
arrow keys you get all system tray items.

There is an add-on of NVDA which provides NVDA-f11 key function.

Dear List Members,
Yesterday I upgraded my registered Windows 10 to recent version.
However, since then Jaws 18 64 bit is not working at all. I am not able to
shift between applications with alt tab. Also it does not show me the Jaws
window as it was doing before which we can use for changing Jaws settings.
Further I am not able to open MS Office applications.
There is no problem with my pc as everything works fine with NVDA. I am
using Lenovo laptop which I purchased last year only. I have tried
reinstalling Jaws 2 to 3 times after uninstalling shared components also.
But even then problem persists. Please help urgently.
Also let me know how to access system tray with NVDA, the job of ins.
f11 in Jaws to know speaker volume, internet access information etc.
Hoping to hear soon,
Sincerely,
C. B. Kulkkarni

Issue of totally personal interest. After retirement, I am making efforts to
write books in Hindi medium for the students of graduation course,
particularly, relating to political science as I got chance to teach
political science in Satyawati College (Evening). For this, I have started a
publication with the name of Raktim Prakashan whih is a registered body. I
have two issues: 1. Through this group, I am interested to invite writers
who are interested in writing in Hindi for not only various courses of
academics but also even otherwise and I have decided to bringforth books in
a blindfriendly accessible format. 2. I am still writing through safa using
phonetics way of writing Hindi and I am comfortable with it but the issue is
that it cannot run on window 7. I either wish to explore the possibilities
whether it is possible to use safa in window-7 or can I Use NVDA for hindi
and is it possible to use phoneticcs with the facility of pronouncing each
andd every alphabet while writing as it happens in the case of using safa in
window XP. Suggestions and support of the group is desired.

This cannot be solved in a day. It is a long process. We have to make use of
the computer compulsory and give training of this effect. With full
assurance, I can say that even if you ask these students to write their

Cannot understand what you mean by Kindle serial number. What you need to
register Kindle app of PC to your kindle account is your mail ID or phone
number associated with your amazon account and the amazon password. You
could try logging in to this account on amazon web site and use forgot
password feature to re-set your account password.

Use this changed password on the kindle for PC application to get access to
the books that you have purchased from Amazon Kindle.

There was a discussion on using Kindle for PC on this list a while ago. This
happened when the list was on the old domain. The new list archives don't

I use Kindle for PC and read books on the computer. Is it possible to locate
the Kindle serial number on the PC, if the account is not associated with
any Kindle device?

Many thanks.

[Ai] DAISY Audio of audio described films

2017-08-05 Thread Dipendra Manocha via Ai
Dear all

Saksham is introducing yet another feature to improve availability and
accessibility of its offerings. We have been bringing out audio described
films for long now. To increase its availability and ease of use, these
audio described films are now available from Sugamya Pustakalaya as DAISY
Audio books.

To begin with this offering we have uploaded below 10 audio described films
to Sugamya Pustakalaya:

1 Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
2 Barfi
3 Dangal
4 Gandhi
5 Hanuman
6 Munna Bhai MBBS
7 P K
8 Three Idiots
9 Black
10 Halo

It is so good to have them on the DAISY player or the DAISY player app on
phone and computer with auto resume and navigation feature. It was quite an
enjoyable experience to listen to them as a DAISY audio book. I am sure you
would enjoy tem as much.

Wishing you happy movie listening.

Re: [Ai] any tool which can convert pdf to word

2017-07-30 Thread Dipendra Manocha via Ai
ONLINE CONVERSION OF PDF TO WORD

PDF Documents that are small in size can be converted using online sites.
There are many sites that provide this facility like pdf2doc.com,
pdfonline.com, freepdfconvert.com etc. We have to upload the files that
needs to be converted, it processes and then gives the link for download.
Some sites may email you the converted file.

ABBYY fine reader's PDF to word converter utility and Adobe Acrobat Pro are
most used software for this task.

Thanks

try this method:
open pdf file. go to edit>copy file to clipboard. open ms-word>paste it. at
the time of copy-pasting, both adobe and ms-word programme should be on open
window.
this will also work in unicode pdf files. this is a simple convertion. for
complex documents, you need professional utilities.

[Ai] software cracks

2017-07-31 Thread Dipendra Manocha via Ai
Dear Chirag
If affordability was a problem, did you try out methods of accomplishing
this task with free or open source tools available to us in any way?

Even if we do not realise, we pay a very heavy cost for pirated software.
This is because we condemn those developers to starvation who try to
develop software for us. Thus no sensible person would try to develop
anything for us. For example, did you ever think why Fine Reader doesn't
have any Indian Language in it?

Thanks

Welcome to the dream of Writer-free persons with blindness.

We will certainly need willingness, efforts, policy and resources (in that
order) to achieve this.

I personally endorse your view with but--a big but i.e., an opposition from
the blind persons themselves due to the reasons, in majority of the cases,
best known to all of us. The voluntary sector has to take a strict sttep
without caring what others feel because ultimately we are bound to see a
better society of the well-trained and self-sufficient and self-dependent
visually impaired persons.

Re: [Ai] Can we change our local library in Sugamya Pustakalaya?

2017-08-19 Thread Dipendra Manocha via Ai
Hello Aakash

You can register for another secondary library. You can be a member of more
than one libraries on Sugamya Pustakalaya.

The main function is to get offline services. Example, you can request for a
book to be sent to you on a physical media. Your offline request goes to the
library that you have chosen.

Member of any library will have access to all books available on Sugamya
Pustakalaya. You are not restricted to books of any single library.

Each library is free to have their own membership fee and rules. Thus, which
ever library you choose may have their own terms and conditions for
membership.

You can follow-up with Saksham for library approvals etc. at
libr...@saksham.org
I am copying this mail to Abdul at Saksham regarding our pending membership
request.

Thanks
Dipendra

hi Akash,
hope you are doing good.

as for as my concern, I think, you cant change your local library
preference from the sugamya pusthakalaya.
but, if the saksham does not aproved your documents with the member ship
which you requested, then you can change your preference by requesting with
some other libraries.

Most likely the files have non-unicode font. Easy method would be to print
to file. This will create PDF with image of pages. Then use google drive and
google docs to convert it to get readable Hindi text.

Regarding word problem, in office 2016 I get a list and tree-view that is
similar to the list I get when I press windows+E. Through this I can select any
drive that I wish to same my file in.

Regarding elements list:

Pressing NVDA+F7 takes you to elements list dialogue and you are placed in the
list of selected element. Default is links. Press shift-tab and you set of
radio buttons with links, headings or landmarks as choices.Select any one of
these and tab back to the list of selected element.

Re: [Ai] Reading pdf files

2017-08-19 Thread Dipendra Manocha via Ai
Upload PDF file of less than 10 pages and less than 2 MB on google drive.

Open your google drive page and log-in into your account and open the
uploaded file in google docs.

It if it is an image file, Google itself runs OCR and opens file in google
docs with editable text.

Thanks

You should have got a zip file. Unzip this and open NC.htm file in FS

If this is not working, then write to libr...@saksham.org or call Saksham

When I opened it in FSread, it threw an error, cannot open from external

What to be done for it.

Hi,

I recently came across a program called Codex, which I use for converting
Kindle books into more accessible formats. This program can also convert
ePub books. It was developed by a blind programmer and is fully accessible.
Here is what the Website says:

eBooks are a great resource for everyone. Unfortunately, if you're blind or
visually impaired (or even if you're not), accessing them using the software
or devices of your choice can be a challenge. That is the challenge Codex
aims to overcome.

With Codex, you can take the books you've legally purchased from sites like
Amazon, Smashwords, popular eBook stores using Adobe Digital Editions or
Barnes & Noble via NookStudy and convert them to a format of your choice, be
it ePub for reading on the latest devices, plain text to read in good old
Notepad or any of the other supported output formats. This involves
automatic removal of software protection imposed on such files, and a
separate conversion process. However, the two steps can be performed with
one convenient menu command, right from Windows Explorer. Alternatively, if
no conversion is required, you can choose to remove the protection and leave
the original format intact.

Even if your files aren't DRM-protected and can already be read, Codex
serves as an easy, efficient, accessible general purpose eBook converter and
organiser, so why not give it a go!

Download the program from here:

Subject: [Ai] contribute books to Sugamya Pustakalaya

Dear all

I would encourage members to contribute required accessible books to be put on
Sugamya Pustakalaya. This would enhance our collective collection.

You can be in touch with local library or DFI directly for such contributions.

If you just have a scanned copy that is not proof read, and if you think that
the book is useful for many more, then do contact us so that we can put it
through one or two rounds of proof reading and upload the same on Sugamya
Pustakalaya.

I would share example of Vibhu Sharma who did her graduation from St. Stephen’s
college in DU in English Literature. We could not find soft copies of books
that she wanted for her studies. She scanned these books for herself. We
provided social work certificate for her to proof read her own books, do
corrections and contribute the same to Saksham to put these up on Sugamya
Pustakalaya and students coming after her would not face the problem that she
had during her studies.

So, please come forward and help your selves and in process also help your
friends, brothers and sisters.

Thanks

Dipendra

Re: [Ai] [DKIM Failure] Re: Restrict discussion on the NAB Delhi incident

2017-09-07 Thread Dipendra Manocha via Ai
Dear all

NAB Delhi appreciates concerns related to safety of students studying in
institutions. Be rest assured that we are more concerned about safety of our
students than anyone else in this world. Do notice this fact that the
incident was not reported by any student but was caught by the vigilant
staff of the institution itself. This has happened due to various measures
put in place by NAB Delhi for this purpose. Strong evidence against this
crime too is a result of several measures taken by the institution in past
many years. Many advised us that we should hush this matter and not file FIR
against the person. However. Taking bold step of going to the police and
reporting about this and not trying to hide such incident is testimony about
our commitment to fight against this menace.

Right now law is taking its due course. All investigations, introspections
after a shocking incident like this and deriving learnings from this are all
happening.

Over all, we have seen solidarity from all sides and assistance is offered
to us so that we are not left alone in taking this fight to its conclusion.

I feel and so do many of the supporters that this is time to stand in
solidarity and make sure it should be the criminals who should feel scared
and not the ones who take the courageous step of bringing such matters to
light.

Be rest assured that as per its standing of past 40 years, Nab Delhi will
uphold its values and continue to bring about revolutionary changes for the
betterment of persons with blindness. We are determined to emerge stronger
from this adversity too.

Do not forget that often child abuse happens by most trusted members of
family or friends and this is what has happened to us too. This kind of
betrayal has shocked us and pained us to no end. I sincerely hope that we
will get support from the community to fight against child abusers and not
start getting victimized by the community itself.

Our responses to these discussions will be slow to come by as we are busy in
investigations, providing adequate support and counseling of students after
coming into light of such incident, following up with the police case and
dealing with mainstream media in addition to the regular work of the
institution.

Thanks
Dipendra

As we lambast government for its failure, So we have equal rights to dwell
deep into wrong-doing in the NGO sector also. They afterall seek money in
the name of blind people's welfare. The recent incedent which surfaced at
National Association for the blind Delhi is just a tip of the iceberg. Over
the last two years the sexual assaults faced by children and female
residents have been widely reported in the media.
I remember, the female students at NAB Bangalore complaint harassment
against the NAB Bangalore officials, and the Karnataka CCPD took some
action after being pressured by the civil society. The Panch Koyaan school
in Delhi which is also known as 'andh Maha vidyalay' was also in the news
recently where scenior students continued abusing junior students sexually
for years and the administration of the school took no action. I also
remember couple of years back, A reporter working with Manorma magazine has
brought forth the issue of sexual assaults faced by women residents at Sant
Nagar hostel by the donors and the administration didn't barred donors from
visiting hostels.
notwithstanding the unreported harassments which go unnoticed in hostels
where blind children/female students reside, The above cited case studies
paint a very scary portrayal of insecure atmosphere which impede the overall
development of blind children. Donation is the key to sustaining these
institutions but putting at stake the psychological and physical well-being
of young students raises several burning questions about day-to-day
functioning of such institutions.

Do you really feel that children should be facing mainstream media in such
cases?

The media itself is more sensitive than what is been said here. They
themselves know that they are not supposed to be speaking to minors and
putting them through any such humiliations.

Please stop spreading rumors based on so called reliable sources or baseless
allegations being leveled by an individuals on any unverifiable public
forums.

Knowingly or unknowingly, such unfounded loose talk may help the offenders
and weaken our fight against them.

Be rest assured that as result of investigations, if anyone is found
guilty, will have the face the consequences.

Thanks

Sarinji

I do not think the discussion should be closed. Even if we close it on
accessindia the press will still carry it and Avinash and others will copy
it for us.

I however think that the reporting to the police has been a good step.

I also think that my advice to Prashant that he must track the matter is
sound advice.NAB Delhi is going to be harassed by many and we in the sector
must atleast criticise only after knowing facts.

Now the next set of problems who will you protect the kids from and to what
extent?

Avinash has listed out a few recent incidents. There are many more.

Who do you trust- Trustees, management, staff, family members, volunteers,
politicians, police, seniors from the same sex or from the opposite sex.
Everyone can be suspect and we have to guard against everyone. These crimes
donot get committed completely by one person. Therefore I had mentioned an
insider accomplice. Management cannot be blamed unless it is directly
involved. If management has taken precaution as much as a prudent man would
have then we cannot blame management.

In many cases the parties have hushed up matters -this is detrimental to
everyone.

But blaming anyone before investigation is over is wrong.

Prashant,

Most NGOs hide such incidents therefore we are proud of you for taking the
right steps.

Maybe other NGOs will learn and our faith in the system will be revived.

Incidents like this happen unfortunately. You can tighten your security etc
but this can happen again.

Much harassment will be doled out to the alleged accused but the same
harassment will be doled out in greater measure to your organisation and its
staff and members first. Unfortunately this is how the legal system works in
India.

Please keep a track of the matter because if you don't the matter will slip
under the carpet. This will take some time to end.

You will need to track the police.

Many in this group have a connection direct or indirect with NAB Delhi and
would like to keep a track of the newspaper reports etc.

Yes no names must or should be revealed.

We are with you please go the whole hog even if there is someone from inside
who is going to be implicated as an accomplice.

Re: [Ai] Restrict discussion on the NAB Delhi incident

2017-09-12 Thread Dipendra Manocha via Ai
Next day doesn’t mean after 24 hours. Why assume the worst and then also start
pronouncing judgements on your worst assumptions.

Incident happened at 6 PM on Saturday. And by 6 PM the next day which was a
Sunday,

Internal processes required to be done in such cases were completed, complaint
made, statement of children recorded and complainant was behind bars.

Thanks

Sorry to intervene sir, may I add?

NAB Spokes Person himself stated that complain was filed next day while
responding a Radio discussion and this is what exactly being presented in
various media reports.

If this ambiguity remains in the statements, a human mind by it's nature would
obviously and always have a doubt.

hope my humble suggestion would be taken in a positive way.

Dear all

Please pay attention to the fact that case is under investigation from police
and several government agencies involved in it. Proper procedures and evidences
and action are happening.

The argument of complaint after 24 hours is another example of false statement
and a rumor. Do not try to hold a parallel court on Access-India. It is not
appropriate or possible for NAB Delhi to get involved in running a parallel
case on Access-India and keep answering baseless and false allegations.

I still believe that Mr Sareen do not have any mollified intention in this
matter. however, knowingly or unknowingly, do not forget that you are making
such false allegations against the complainant in this case on a public forum.
This is very questionable behavior in this particular case and may be
interpreted in a way that you are trying to strengthen or save the culprit by
harassing the complainant.

Other implication of such defaming of complainant organization on public
forums would be that oganisations would think 100 times before they take
appropriate legal actions in such matters and not hush the matters under the
carpet even if this means culprits going unpunished and victims being further
victimized or shamed.

All of us are free to have and express our opinion on various issues. However,
I would again urge not to try to run a parallel case based on baseless
allegations or rumors. Let the people who know the laws and processes run the
investigations and pronounce judgements.

Thanks

Dipendra

Is it only for thhe blind children? What about taking various courses in the
absence of evidences--and the given evidences are given after 24 hours and what
is its relevance. If the students are getting facebook message to the children
by the culprit, who is going to tell them. Law is not everything though it has
got some relevance. If we have a scientific approach to this happeninng,
nothing comes out suddenly or miraculously. As I had already said why not to

Thanks Dipendra ji for butting in. How misinformed we are! Minors are never
exposed to media. There are SOPs to record their statements before the judge in
a child friendly environment under the law.

Targetting individuals and bashing of organisation won't help. I feel this
incident has been handled in most professional manner. Even when kids didn't
feel it was any abuse, the organisation has taken a right step of registering
an FIR and bringing the culprit to book. We all need to standby them to see
that law take its course and case is followed up till it reaches its logical
conclusion!

Yes, That exactly is the purpose of Sugamya Pustakalaya. No matter who prepares
the books, all users will get all their books from a single platform. This also
is aan enabler to University enabling units and public library or any
organization providing services to end users near them. All such libraries can
register their members on Sugamya Pustakalaya and provide any book to them that
exists on the platform.

The Sugamya Pustakalaya also has a provision to put in your request so that
libraries could take up production of these books in accessible format and
make them available on the online library platform.

Re: [Ai] Best available instant OCR

2017-09-04 Thread Dipendra Manocha via Ai
You can use IPhone with KNFB reader app or seeing AI app along with Phone
OCR stand.

This has all the features of earlier dedicated reading machines.

This is another example where Mobile phone is replacing dedicated devices.

2017-09-04 Thread Dipendra Manocha via Ai
Forwarding your request to sant...@daisyindia.org for getting in touch with
you for addressing the problem.

Play from web site option is not good for content like audio books. We need
to navigate in a book and we normally would not listen to a book like
playing a movie. Therefore play option from web site is not provided.

after clicking on download link new browser window open shows blank page.
this ftpp:// URL link is not working.
usually http:// link open without any problem.
so I think technical issue should resolve.
if anybody wants to just listen book without downloading then play option
also not there.
only download option is not good.
