I'm experiencing these issue with patch 4 on upgrade on unix.

1. Installer won't run with X11 biniary in Libpath.
2. On a custom install in of arserver, arealdap, ardbcldap,  
flashboard, email engine, the rik import, fail to import most of the  
system forms, with no errors. Except for group from.
3. Experienced error where the installer couldnot stop/start  
arserverd, once.

Filters run on server side. So, that push action can be triggered in  
the background.


Active link run on the form level basically user interaction triggers  
it.


Push action on active link or filter do the same thing.

[Web Services] How to find out the status of multiple entries?

Hi List,

yet one more Web Services question.

For each entry in the main table, I have a few approval records in the
subtable.

What is the simplest way to enable the consumers of my web service to
get the list of the approval entries incl. status? Will this be an
OptGetList? What type of elements do I have to define in the xsd file?
Where do I find an example?

As you mention, trial licenses have an expiration date.  If you are past the 
expiration date, the license will no longer be usable.

You will need to request another trial license from BMC.  Please contact your 
BMC sales representative or authorized BMC partner.  You'll need to get a 
temporary Support ID assigned to you.  Once you have that, you can request 
another trial license from the BMC Support Central site.

Note, however, that trial licenses expire to ensure that the product is not 
used beyond its evaluation period.  I would encourage you to discuss actually 
purchasing the product with your BMC sales representative or BMC Partner.

have a question. I need to disable or enable filters or links depending upon
the role of the users and trying to figure out how.



For example lets say I have a filter that I want to fire for all users,
unless that user was the “Infrastructure Change Master”.



Any ideas?

It depends on how complex you need the web service to be.  If it is a single 
form doing Submit/Modify/Query then you do not need an XSD.  The Admin tool 
will generate the schema for you as you map the fields.

There are different tools out there that can help you generate an XSD if you 
need one (I used to have a list, but I can't seem to find it now).  I have even 
generated one using Notepad.

filter
Should do the trick but it can get complicated if there are more groups you 
need to isolate. You would be adding another AND NOT $GROUPS$ LIKE 
%groupname% for additional groups.

Hi,

You should use the $PROCESS$ function Application-Confirm-Group group_ID
to do this.

Create a couple of integer-display-only-fields for the groups you need to
check, and then do an early Set-Fields-Filter to set the values:

Filter 1:
  Set-Fields:
GroupMember6001 = $PROCESS$ Application-Confirm-Group 6001
GroupMember6333 = $PROCESS$ Application-Confirm-Group 6333
GroupMember7123 = $PROCESS$ Application-Confirm-Group 7123

If the value of the field is 1, the use is a member of that group. It will
be 0 if the user is not a member.

SSL certificate for incoming and outgoing ar email

Hi,

I am trying to set up AR Email and use customers exchange server which uses SSL.

I have outgoing mailbox set and am getting this error:

javax.mail.MessagingException: Exception reading response;
  nested exception is:
javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: 
sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: 
sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find 
valid certification path to requested target

Where do I need to install the certificate (if that is the issue) and also it 
is not generated by a commercial CA. 
ARS v7.5 p4 on Windows Server 2003

In retrospect, my solution was needlessly complicated.  I could have just 
edited the filter so that it did not try to push to a non-existent form.  Then 
I wouldn't have had to restore and delete the SHR:People form.  Sometimes you 
have to do things the long complicated way in order to see the simple and 
obvious solution.

Try deleting that record from the filter table and all other entries 
filter_ tables that have the same filter Id and then cache the server..

However before doing this, backup the database just in case that breaks 
something else..

Also since you encountered an error such as this, I would run queries on the 
database to check of there are other workflow objects that exist that are tied 
to schemaid's that do not exist, and evaluate on case to case basis whether 
they ought to be deleted.

However if you find that the workflow you find is shared between forms, some 
of which still exist on the server, things change a little.. Make sure that 
your query considers that it is querying for filters that are not shared 
between forms. Clean those first.. If there are workflow objects that are 
shared and is referencing a deleted form, things change a little... Then you 
need to only remove the mapping record.. and not any other..

Hi,

I'm trying to install ARS 7.5 (patch 04) on our new LINUX server. I'm running 
Oracle 11 and I'm using the installation within a upgrade mode as we have 
imported our DB data (oracle 9) into our new DB (Oracle 11). Following the BMC 
support matrix, we are using the oracle client 10...

The problem is that I get the following error during the installation :
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
 Or depending on the setting I provide I get
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect 
descriptor

I have checked the tnsname.ora file as well as the listener.ora and everything 
seems to work fine... the listener is started, I can do a TNS ping, I can 
connect with SQLPLUS,...

Also during the installation he ask me for the Oracle Connection Identifier 
and don't really which information I should provide at this point.

Any idea ?

Mid-Tier Hanging

I am having a consistent inconsistent problem in Mid-Tier, and was hoping 
someone here might have some ideas.  My users are having issues with Mid-Tier 
hanging on occasion when trying to access a new form or link.  This also 
happens on occasion when they are logging into the system.  Usually they can 
just close the window/tab and click again with success, but I am not sure what 
is causing the hang in the first place.  Since the issue is sporadic it is hard 
to nail down what exactly is causing it.  All access is done through IE 7.  Any 
thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

ITSM 7.6
SQL 2005
Server 2008 64-bit

I added the certificate to the cacerts keystore and still getting

unable to find valid certification path to requested target

Am I missing something here? It is not complaining about the certificate not 
being trusted but something to do with the path??

I am trying to set up AR Email and use customers exchange server which uses SSL.

I have outgoing mailbox set and am getting this error:

javax.mail.MessagingException: Exception reading response;
  nested exception is:
javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: 
sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: 
sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find 
valid certification path to requested target

Where do I need to install the certificate (if that is the issue) and also it 
is not generated by a commercial CA. 
ARS v7.5 p4 on Windows Server 2003

Oracle indentifer is the oracle sid. Defining the oracle two task.  
This is how we define it from our installation of 7.5 with bmc.

Is your Oracle 11 instance in a RAC?  If so, there are issues with the 
installer working with the instances of a RAC that can give errors like you 
posted.  I posted how we worked around the issue a while back (I think it was 
early to mid last year).  I can try to find it again if that's what's going on 
here.

It sounds like the cache may be being cleared occasionally, and the mid-tier is 
having to rebuild the cache for that form.  That can take a while and looks 
like the mid tier is hanging.  Refreshing the window can make it look like it 
is finally working, but I think much of the time, that is just an illusion, 
because the server was working on the form in the meantime, so it will often be 
nearly done by the time the user decides to refresh the page.

Note that every time you create a new Support Group in Remedy, it adds a new 
Remedy group to the system, and if your mid tier is set to periodically check 
for definition updates, it will flush its cache and rebuilding it every time it 
checks after you've added a support group.  In order to work around that issue, 
we have disabled the periodic definition change checks.  In the mid tier 
configuration page under Cache Settings, uncheck the Perform Check checkbox 
next to Definition Change Check Interval.  This will cause the mid tier to 
never check for updates, and will keep the cache from getting flushed every 
time you add a new support group.

Note that if you do this, you will need to manually flush the cache any time 
you deploy workflow changes to that environment.  We do this as part of our 
change deployment process.  It's essentially the final step of any change we 
make.

Since you're running the installer in a 32-bit JVM, you need to make sure you

I'm experiencing these issue with patch 4 on upgrade on unix.

1. Installer won't run with X11 biniary in Libpath.
2. On a custom install in of arserver, arealdap, ardbcldap,  
flashboard, email engine, the rik import, fail to import most of the  
system forms, with no errors. Except for group from.
3. Experienced error where the installer couldnot stop/start  
arserverd, once.

The way I always tell people to set up for Oracle.

Say this is your TNSNAMES.ORA file where your ARS server is installed and your 
ARS server uses MYENTRY1.
MYENTRY1 =
  (description =
(address_list =
  (address = (protocol = tcp)(host = MYHOST1)(port = 1521))
)
(connect_data =
  (sid = MYSID1)
)
  )

MYENTRY2 =
  (description =

  )

In the profile of the user that ARS runs under I tell people to set the 
following environment variables:
set TWO_TASK=MYENTRY1
set ORACLE_SID=MYSID1
set TNS_ADMIN={location of tnsnames.ora file}
export TWO_TASK
export ORACLE_SID
export TNS_ADMIN

With these variables set you should be able to connect with sqlplus like:   
sqlplus scott/tiger

Re: Changing the process flow bar in change.

We are running an early version of ITSM 7 and I am trying to see if the
process flow bar for Change was changed and at a loss of what forms control
it.



For example the first item in our change process flow bar, is Initiate
(Normal), then the pull down has Next Stage, Help or clear.  What I am
trying to see if this was how the system came Out Of Box or was it changed.


So if anyone knows the names of the controlling forms, or how to modify the
process flow bar can you please let me know.

FYI for 7.5 Patch 4they have changed the caching mechanism so that it
doesn't flush the entire cache and restart from scratch, it allows
individual cache gets on only the needed components.very excited to try
this particular one out.

 Identifier” and don’t really which information I should provide at this
 point.

Building a Remedy development server via VM clone

I was trying to find a thread discussion on this, but couldn't find it so i
am hoping to get this clear from someone on the list and possibly other may
use this as a helpful resource information in the future.

Our system engineer and DBA were trying to setup a development server by
just cloning the existing server of our current production system and place
it on one of the VMHost within the network.  I knew that it couldn't be that
easy and of course that didn't work.  We could not start the Remedy service
and the ar.cfg and armonitor.cfg have already been change and point to the
new VM guest OS.  Our current system is on 7.1, ITSM 6.3, this is a Window
base environment and the database server, web server and application server
is on the same machine.

I have never built a development server this way before.  Normally I would
create a new SQL instance on the same SQL box and do a DB backup and restore
the ARSystem DB on the new instance and make sure that the ARSystem DB owner
is ARAdmin.

If anyone have an experience in setting the development server via a VM
clone and won't mind the time to educate some of us I would appreciate it.

Hey Howard, how are you doing?

The key form to look at is the Process Flow Structure Setup.  It
lets you define or modify the flow for each application.  I was able
to successfully add things like Pending status reasons and the like.
To add selections that trigger workflow (like Next Stage) is more
involved and I haven't done that yet, but you can search for vis in
the object list and poke at the Visualization Process supporting
forms.  What follows is a response from BMC when I was trying to
figure out how to add status reason selections:

As per our discussion over the phone, you can add new Status Reason
using VIS:ProcessFlowStructureSetup form.

As I informed you during our discussion that we have one Defect and
RFE logged with engineering.

Updating Site Address after a Push Field to Site

I may just be over thinking this issue, but I need to be able to have the Site 
Address field update when a Push Field from an escalation modifies the Site 
field.  Most of the workflow around this change happens with a Menu Select or a 
Return function.  We update Remedy accounts through Active Directory, and when 
the Site changes I need the address field to follow suit otherwise it renders 
the account invalid.  I have tried modifying the existing workflow to run on 
Submit, Modify, After Submit and After Modify, but it will not update the Site 
Address.

Workflow appears to be firing off of AL CTM:SHR:Site-STU-LookUp_100 followed by 
AL CTM:SHR:Site-STU-Setup-G-120_NotQuery which calls AL Guides 
SHR:SHR:SetupSiteAddress and CTM:SHR:Setup Site Menu.

No matter how I process this workflow I cannot get this information to update 
with the Push Field.  The workflow fires perfectly with Menu Select and on 
Return.

Any insight would be helpful.

field on the CTM;People form, its a display only field. When a people
record is displayed, the address gets built from the address info on SIT:Site
for the corresponding site. Or am I missing what you are trying to
do?

Incident Management Console

Dear Listers,

We have been seeing something quite unusual in the Incident Management Console 
on the midtier:
- whenever the Role field value is changed from the drop down menu, there is a 
brief moment we see MNU2932 (the menu item id value from the SYS:Menu 
Items form) and then the actual Menu Value is displayed in the Role field. 

We don't see this odd behavior on the User Tool. I looked at the AL logs both 
on the MT and on the UT, but did not see any reference to set fields doing an 
explicit set fields of the Menu Item ID being set into the Role field being 
displayed. 

We are running ITSM 7.1.0 on AR System 7.1.0 Patch 6

Has anyone one else seen this odd behavior? I am unable to explain this 
behavior on the MT.

It could be the menu return the requestId, then workflow do a lookup to
replace the value. It happens slow enough on MT so you could see the Id
momentary.

I missed that portion on my email.  This is indeed on the CTM:People form, and 
the Site Address field updates when the Site is selected from the Menu or when 
you hit the Enter key in that field.  The update to Site Address does pull the 
information from the SIT:Site Alias Company LookUp form I believe.

If you are trying to trigger ALs from an escalation, that won't work.  What
you need to do (or what I would do) is create a filter that duplicates the
action of the OOB active links.  You can then set this to fire on Modify and
even check to see if the address field is empty first.

Update:

There is an active defect SW00327170 that appears to be in QA to resolve
this issue.  Of course we have no feedback on when but I do know it was not
fixed in patch 4 since we tried that patch and had the same results.

It's a shame that something fixed in 7.0.1P7 as noted by Rafael did not seem
to find its way through numerous versions after that.

I'll provide an update when received.

 The issue is with the control table not being upgraded properly. You MUST
 upgrade to 7.0.1P7 first, this will fix the control table and allow the 7.5

I also ran into some issues with installing patch 4 fresh.  This is on
Windows 2008 64bit but had similar issues. Had a few rik errors, the
administration plugings were not working, the install hung on the final
servers start.

I removed everything, installed patch 3 and am upgrading to patch 4 now.

Actually, I don't see any reference to the Menu Item ID being set in the logs. 
I looked at all the Activelinks and not there either for the Menu Item ID being 
used. Is this a midtier behavior that cannot be changed, or am I missing 
something?

It could be the menu return the requestId, then workflow do a lookup to replace 
the value. It happens slow enough on MT so you could see the Id momentary.

The upgrade from patch 3 to patch 4 still had errors but less.  The Approval
Server failed to install with the following error in the logs:   LOG EVENT
{Description=[Failed to execute
executeApprovalServerUpgradeNative],Detail=[Encountered error while
executing arapupgd]}

I re-ran the patch 4 installer and just installed Approval Server and it
appeared to install (there were no errors anyways).

Merging two systems

We are looking to merge these systems into one. We will probably go with AIX 
and Oracle 10g. I was wondering if anyone had any good advise besides praying.

Unable to do a Change Field Action-Attaching Menu to Character field

Hello all,
Trying to attach a MENU to a character field dynamically.In the change
field action, selected the field , made the field access to Read/
Write, selected the checkbox Attach Menu to Field and selected the
character menu from the list and saved the active link. It is not
working . When checked the logs it shows * No such field on
schema, did anybody encounter this kind of issue. Unable to attach a
MENU to the character field.
Please advice.

Raj,

 

When you want to assign a menu dynamically through workflow, you still need to 
initialize the character field.  Type $NULL$ into the field that lets you 
associate a menu with it.  No menu will be attached initially, but it will let 
you add a menu through workflow.

I already have a permanent Support id. Its generating the new trial license
which I am receiving through email. But yet its not updating the new
license.

Does this have something to do with the host id?

If yes then what is the solution? I want to go ahead with the trial license
only.

If yu are working with Roles, you might want to do something like
$ROLES$ LIKE % + Infrastructure Change Master + %
You can use $GROUPS$, but you would need to find the Group that maps
to the Roles on the Group form.  The group name for OOTB ITSM roles
are numbers.

Filters run server side and Active Links run on the client.
Push Fields pushes data to another form.
Set Fields sets data on the current form.  The data can come from
another form.

Hello,

 if you perform Set Field action on the same form on which you fire
the Modify or Submit action it will push the values (as Push Field
actions).
