Re: Setting the 112 field with a flow
Resolved, Apeard that it has nothing to do with Assigned Groups field. There was an ACTL setting some display field fired on Windows Loaded event. The reason why the record was displayed on WUT client and not on the web is due to different processing of that event on both clients. Thanks, Marek 2012/4/21 Joe Martin D'Souza jdso...@shyle.net ** I thought that’s how it was done but if this is really true, it may not be done at server level. Another interesting thought would be that for that particular version, how would multi tenancy work if 112 is failing on the web? After all that’s the heart and soul of implementing multi tenancy.. I may have missed your earlier posts where you’ll mentioned your specific versions.. Could you’ll bring what versions you’ll are on up again? Re: Save the Request-ID to a field on Submit
Hi Joe, No, it does NOT wait for the commit any longer. At least not if you use the Default-settings in 7.6.04. The Unique-Index-error is fine to me. It means that the AR Developer did something wrong. Again, all your next arguments is voided by the fact that the default setting is now Next-ID-Commit:T, which means that the Next-ID is commited BEFORE the filters start running. Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://rrr.se I think the reasoning behind keeping the nextid until after the request is submitted is that the application waits for an actual commit before assuming the nextID it has queried for as there is a less than a possible chance that two or more users may attempt to submit a new request at the same micro second thus attempting to use the same request ID. I'm guessing there must be some sort of a mechanism in place to prevent that so that users do not get the ugly violation of unique index error. This is just a guess though.. May not be the real reason.. In order to have a run process to get the nextID would mean that they would need to commit the request you are currently working on before you have even created it, so a sort of a create on window open. Whether or not that is a good idea, is probably debatable. Irresponsible use of a system by indiscriminately opening new windows, may result in loss of chunks of Request ID's - just like it is now with the Incident ID's - at least in this case the Request ID's stay pretty much sequential until a server restart where an unused block of request ID's is reset. Loosing Request ID's is often not a very pretty sight when reporting, as its harder to determine if the Request ID was deliberately deleted by some user having a greater access to the system. You may not be able to audit that even with a delete trigger on the database, as the application would actually need to delete the new entry created if the user does not save. In my opinion, a better - possibly cleaner way to fetch a Request ID on create is to device a new channel or method to allow the developer to access it both from an active link (which is possible with an After Submit) as well as a filter. Some sort of an after submit or after modify action on a filter. Obviously this operation event may have not been replicated with filters as there must be some challenges towards making that happen.. In the old days, when the request id was increased in steps of 1 without any gaps, this would have worked. I have NO IDEA why BMC does not give us the request id in phase 1 in 7.6.04, at least if Next-ID-Commit:T is set in the ar.cfg (which is also the default value of 7.6.04). They could even give us a $PROCESS$ @@:GetNextID call that would reserve and set the Request ID on the client side. It makes no sense barring us from setting the Request ID in New-Mode using ACTL:s any longer. Tried that Joe, but it's not working. And BTW, when you build a filter that fires on submit and you push the newly created Request-ID into another form, then the $LASTID$ does containt the request-id. I think the only not-too-tricky option I have is to query the ARSystem Metadata: arschema form for next_id... On Apr 20, 4:17 pm, Joe Martin D'Souza jdso...@shyle.net wrote: $LASTID$ would not necessarily hold the current Request ID that is generated. It holds the ID of a request that was last queried for. ITSM 7.6.04 sp2 / Oracle 11g / Redhat Having an issue installing using the stack installer. Using the following tnsname entry: p123 = (DESCRIPTION = (LOAD_BALANCE=OFF) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = server2)(PORT = 1521)) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = server1)(PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = remedy_prod_app) ) ) Before running the installer tested connecting to the database using sqlplus. I could also tnsping p123. During the installation I use p123 as the Oracle Connect Identifier and remedy_prod_app as the Oracle Service Name. The installer validates everything and there appears to be no issues until it gets to the point where it starts the Oracle import. The import fails with: IMP-00058: ORACLE error 12154 encountered ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified IMP-0: Import terminated unsuccessfully After a few attempts using different configurations I captured the imp process: /usr/oracle/product/11.2.0/client/bin/imp file= /usr/ar/bmc/Utilities/arsystem.dmp buffer= 1024 fromuser=ARADMIN touser=aradmin feedback=100 log=/tmp/ARSystemDBImport.log My final attempt was to add a second tnsnames entry using the service name remedy_prod_app as the entry point: remedy_prod_app = (DESCRIPTION = (LOAD_BALANCE=OFF) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = server2)(PORT = 1521)) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = server1)(PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = remedy_prod_app) ) ) The installer worked. The installed ar.conf file only references the p123 so I removed the second tnsnames entry from the tnsnames file and ARS runs fine. Joe From: Michael Latham Sent: Friday, April 20, 2012 5:47 PM Newsgroups: public.remedy.arsystem.general To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Working with ENCRYPT() function... ** Hey Joe - How have things been since Nomura - if you remember me from that project and you are in fact the same Joe De'Souza. To move along, encryption algorithms vary. If I am not mistaken Remedy ARS uses DES block-cipher encryption in the ENCRYPT function.DES in and of itself is symmetric from an algorithm standpoint. It uses one 64-bit key to encrypt a block of plaintext that is 64-bits into ciphered text. It has one parity bit for each byte of the provided key which generates a key strength which is only 56-bits. Per BMC Documentation: The output is limited to the size of the field used for output, including the base-64 encoding. Therefore, you are limited to encrypting a string that is 3/4 the size of the output field. Using the passphrase method as a way to generate the encrypted text is achieved using, most probably, a key derivation and salt combination. In order to decrypt ciphered text you would need to code an external DES ciphering utility in your language of choice that would encrypt the plain text based on the key provided or decrypt the ciphered text using the key provided. As long as you have the key you can go back and forth with the encryption/decryption. By the way, why do you need to know the length of the output string? I am assuming when you say length you mean character count or something similar. Mike Date: Fri, 20 Apr 2012 13:48:37 -0400 From: jdso...@shyle.net Subject: Working with ENCRYPT() function... Re: Working with ENCRYPT() function...
Good to hear from you too Michael.. I’m back in the downtown area these days – haven’t worked in this area since we last worked together at Nomura about 7 years ago. Time flies eh? I’m about 2 or 3 blocks away from there and even intend to take lunch at some of those restaurants from that area when the weather gets a little more forgiving.. I’m still into Remedy work a bit of consulting and some developing. I kind of miss some of the older work we used to get that involved more development than customization. I had stayed away from ITSM kind of projects for the longest time, until I realized that if I kept staying away from it, I might soon have to start looking at an alternative solution to work with. I've had very brief opportunities to work with some complimentary products, but stayed with the mainstream Remedy products mostly. As you may have figured out from some of my recent posts, I am currently working on an integration effort between Remedy and OIM (Oracle Identity Management) using their SPML (web services). I had a sticky pitch for a while, but it turned out it was because of some configuration settings from the OIM side. They (OIM admins) still haven’t figured out what that discrepancy might be but I’ve asked them to investigate the difference between a now working instance and the older non working one. This I figure would be useful information to have later while building the other production and training environments at this site.. Anyways getting back on topic, I’m yet to determine what length I may need to hold my encrypted string that holds the OIM configuration password... I have currently set it to 120 and for now will resort to the good old trial and error method, in the absence of the exact formula to use to determine it. OIM allows passwords of no more than length 8 and I have noticed that using an encryption key of length 38, a GUID, returns outputs of length averaging in between 75 to 80.. So I created a field of length 120 to store that, hoping it would not cross that value. Re: Working with ENCRYPT() function...
In general - a character in the English language is represented by 1 byte for ASCII and 2 bytes per character for Unicode. A lot of encoding in the various languages is done using Unicode. So 1 Byte contains 8-16 bits depending on whether it is ASCII or Unicode. Excuse me for a moment, I need to get caught up on what you are currently doing or what your actual issue is. You take a value which you input yourself and use the ENCRYPT function to cipher that value? You then want to get the length of the encrypted value? Yes the expand box attribute on the Dev Studio is read only on 7.6.03 too.. but the behavior on the WUT is way different for different field sizes.. Hang on for a detailed explanation of reproduction of this that I am in the process of typing... I would love to know if this is only a 7.6.03 quirkiness or if it exists on other versions. Jason Miller already confirmed its good on 7.6.04. However Jason, please read my next mail, and if my screen shots do not make it through, let me know and I’ll mail you the screen shots directly. I can replicate it over and over again.. Documenting it on email at the moment and will share the email with the list as well as Doug... I got the base build, no service patch of 7.6.03... The Expand Box option is read only once the Display Type is set to Edit Masked. If I set the Expand Box to Show before setting Display Type = Edit Masked the Expand Box is automatically set to Hide once set Edit Masked. Try it out, on the WUT and or the MT and it should work ok.. Change the length of this field to a length that the Expand box gets enabled automatically. I changed mine to 254 or 255 – I don’t recall the exact.. Test that field out on the WUT (haven’t tested on web yet.) When typing in the contents it is masked... Re: Save the Request-ID to a field on Submit
Hi, No, it is not available. But if you look at the SQL logs, it is retrieved and committed before the filters start running. This option is available before 7.6.04, but it is not the default behavior in earlier versions. Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://www.rrr.se (ARSList MVP 2011) Products from RRR Scandinavia (Best R.O.I. Award at WWRUG10/11): * RRR|License - Not enough Remedy licenses? Save money by optimizing. * RRR|Log - Performance issues or elusive bugs? Analyze your Remedy logs. Find these products, and many free tools and utilities, at http://rrr.se. Haven't had the chance to play around with 7.6.04 too much as yet. So haven't seen the impact of that default.. If it is already committed, how come its not available? Or is it available. I might have missed something you said in your previous posts.. Joe -Original Message- From: Misi Mladoniczky Sent: Monday, April 23, 2012 5:33 AM Newsgroups: public.remedy.arsystem.general To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Save the Request-ID to a field on Submit Hi Joe, No, it does NOT wait for the commit any longer. Re: I think I just found a sweet bug on character fields that are Edit Masked...
I used the Dev Studio of the same version as the AR Server to create that field and make changes to it .. I am on 7.6.03 (no patch). My WUT and Dev Studio too are on the same version no patch. I’m going to try to attempt to attach 5 screen shots and hope they make it through to the list. I’ll also take the liberty to email them to you Doug, and Jason Miller and Keith Sinclair, as I am expecting the attachments to not make it to the list.. The property on the dev studio is un-editable once set to edit masked.. however it’s the behavior of the field both on the dev studio as well as the WUT that is a concern Hopefully the screen shots will help explain what words may not explain that clearly.. Find 5 screen shots attached in a zip file called Bug.zip EditMask01.gif This is where I attempted to create a character field of length 20 with some Default value “New Field Edit Mask” on it. The Expand Box as you can see at the time of creation is Default, and the Display Type is Edit... Notice the default value on the field as well as the non existence of an expand box.. With all these settings I saved the form.. The field got created. EditMask02.gif Here is where I changed the Display Type to Edit Masked and immediately as Jason pointed out on the list, the Expand Box gets grayed out, and its value changes to Hide. Also notice the field on the Dev Studio, where the default value gets masked to asterix’s.. Also notice that there is no Expand Box... So far very good EditMask03.gif Here is where things start to get ugly.. I changed the length of the field from 20 to 255. Notice that the Expand Box attribute is still grayed out. And that its value is Hide. Great (just as what Jason said about 7.6.04)... But take a look on the left hand side. There is an ‘invisible’ expand box on the field on the dev studio itself.. I’m kind that way, and that doesn’t bother me really as it appears like the field is still masking its contents with all asterix’s which is all I want – I don’t really care whether or not the Expand Box shows despite it being set to Hide and its attribute grayed I saved these settings.. With the settings saved with the field length at 255, lets look at what we see on the WUT... EditMask04.gif When the focus is on another field, things look ‘almost’ good on the field that has its Edit Mask attribute turned on.. So long as the focus is not on the Edit Masked field. I say ‘almost’ because you already see the first signs of trouble. The expand box is clearly visible... EditMask05.gif Here you can see that the moment the focus is on the edit mask field, I can see the text as clear text. The mask disappears.. I haven’t yet tested this on the web as I just noticed this like 5 minutes before posting to the list. Cheers Joe PS: On my first attempt, the attachments didn’t get through.. and it rejected my posting.. so attempting it without attachments and if you are interested in the attachments to make sense of this email. please request them from me and I will be more than happy to send From: Sinclair, Keith Sent: Monday, April 23, 2012 3:33 PM Newsgroups: public.remedy.arsystem.general To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: I think I just found a sweet bug on character fields that are Edit Masked... ** Hey Joe, I, too, was unable to reproduce this and I’m on ARS 7.6.3 build 001, Client tool 7.6.4 Sp3. I never saw the see unmasked text. One difference it appears between version; I was not able to show the Expand Box on a field that is set to Edit Masked. OT: Monday Humor RE: Unsubscribe
To be truthful, there is an inside joke from years ago when autoreply was new. I set up a rule to reply to people that sent unsubscribe to the list with the instructions on how to do so. Somebody in an undisclosed military facility sent an unsubscribe to the list, then set up a autoreply that he was going to be out of the office. My autoreply autoreplied to his account which returned the favor. I was out that day and got a call from our security team asking if I knew this fellow. I said no. They informed me that I sent over 6,000 emails to that person in 10 minutes and took down their exchange server. The security guy asked me what to do, and I told him to turn my machine off. He yanked the power cord from the wall as I looked at my backyard to see if there were any black helicopters. :D Darrell Reading Systems Engineer Phone 479.204.5739 dere...@wal-mart.com Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. 805 Moberly Lane, MS-0560-68 Bentonville, AR 72716 Save Money. Re: Help For Depurate ITSM Forms
Got me looking for synonyms for other operations that may apply.. Submit - abide, accede, acknowledge, acquiesce, agree, appease, be submissive, bend, bow, buckle, capitulate, cave, cede, concede, defer, eat crow, fold, give away, give ground, give in, give way, go with the flow, grin and bear it, humor, indulge, knuckle, knuckle under, kowtow, lay down arms, obey, put up with, quit, relent, relinquish, resign oneself, say uncle, stoop, succumb, surrender, throw in the towel, toe the line, tolerate, truckle, withstand, yield Ok so submit has very few that may really stay in context... Modify has some interesting ones.. ROFL! Well getting back on topic, if its refreshing the database from production to dev while skipping though all the uncessary data, I had written a script in DOS, utilizing oracles imp and exp functions to generate par files that did selective export and imports, which ignored what you do not care about.. If that’s the direction you want to go let me know and I may be able to help.. Re: Abydos is now BMC
I just used the same words as Kelly to answer her question. Upcharge typically refers to an extra charge that is in addition to the standard price of the product or service that you bought. In this case, it is tentatively expected that there will be no additional cost beyond the costs associated with the purchase of the ITSM Suite offering itself. It isn’t “free”, though - i.e. it is expected that you will not be able to download it without purchasing or migrating to the latest version of the ITSM Suite under the Suite pricing model. -David J.
