Re: NTS number in 7.6.4

2013-07-08 Thread Jon Slaven
Hi Howard,

I know there's a doc about direct ticket links out there somewhere, but we
could never get them to work in 7.6.04. Essentially we had to pass an
advanced query in an encoded url.

Incident:
http://server/HPD%3AHelp+Desk/Best+Practice+View/?qual='Incident%20ID*%2B'%20%3D%20%22
INC00876126%22

Problem:
http://server/PBM%3AProblem+Investigation/Best+Practice+View/?qual='Problem%20ID*%2B'%20%3D%20%22
PBI5807%22

Change:
http://server/CHG%3AInfrastructure+Change/Best+Practice+View/?qual='Change%20ID*%2B'%20%3D%20%22
CRQ00068871%22

Please note that you have to keep everything intact (including the
trailing %22) changing only the ticket # or it won't work.

Best,
Jon

Good morning/afternoon/evening all,

I am working with a third party vendor, that thinks is can send out a URL
to the users, that when clicked on will open up an incident or change
(just using an incident or change number)

I know that the notifications now coming out of ITSM 7.6.4 reference a NTS
number and the NTE Notifier form. So my question is where does the NTS
number live? Is there a copy of that number on the Helpdesk or Change
form?

Any ideas would be great (just be nice).

Thanks LJ. We tried using EID numbers first, but it would never return a
match (or didn't work reliably across INC/PBI/CRQ - it was a long time ago
when we looked), so we had to result to using quals

Jon,
You only need to do the 'qual' route if you don't have easy access to the
request ID of the record (which is different than the displayed
incident/change/problem id), if using the EID method, no trailing encoded
values are necessary.

You need to optimize your report and add indexes to your forms based on
your query to drop your return times. I suspect you are table scanning

Math is always on the right side of your query. IE. datefield =
($timestamp$ - xxx)
Not reversed

Always use and equal sign in every query to use the index.
Try not to use !=

In addition to a reporting server, we have some 10 forms in a primary

executed on the data nearly every day and this is causing some serious
performance issues.
Any thought on how to resolve this? We were thinking about moving the data
to a different database (thorough replication or nightly database copy)
but we need either an additional server (perhaps DSO) but this will need
an extra license. Enabling archiving at the form level is another option
but we will still have to use the primary server and additional
configuration needs to be done at the queues and thread level as well and
plenty of table indexing.
Any pointer will be very much appreciated.

BTW this is ARS7.1

Hi Chris,

This may or may not help your particular issue, but it's something that
will make Dev Studio more pleasant in general. The Java memory settings
are by default pretty low. Up them in the devstudio.ini. You can change
the memory settings based on how much memory your machine can spare.

Default location: C:\Program Files\BMC

Contents:

C:\Program Files\Java\jre\bin\javaw.exe
-vmargs

Hello All,

I have been encountering an issue with the Dev Studio where I can’t save a
new form or new workflow objects. I create a new workspace and then can
save 1 new form or workflow object but when I try to save another new one
it will not let me. I DO NOT get any errors, rather when I select Save or
Save As and give it a name and click the OK button it just sits there and
does nothing at all. After doing this a dozen times and having 12
different workspaces created it was just getting out of hand. I have to
reset my Default Permissions, server names, and other settings every time
I have to create a new workspace. I finally deleted all the workspaces and
tried to start over and it just keeps doing the same thing, Now I am up to
workspace15 and it just keeps repeating this issue.

Is there any other troubleshooting I can do on this issue or any
suggestions as to how to fix this, given I have to create hundreds of
objects and I just can’t create a new workspace every time I want to add a
new form, active link, filter, etc.

Re: Dev Studio 7.6.04 Question

2013-03-26 Thread Jon Slaven
Hi Christopher,

If you try to delete an object with an overlay, it will delete the overlay
and return you to the Out-Of-Box object.

There's no benefit to modifying the base OOB object. Besides not having
an undo... When you do an upgrade, the base object will be replaced. If
you have an overlay, that overlay will stay in place and your
customization will remain (assuming there are no changes to the OOB
object. If there are, you'll have to test your customization).

Hope that helps.

Thanks,
Jon

We are in the process of learning the Dev Studio 7.6.04 for the first
time. We are now upgrading from 7.1 to 7.6.04 and one of the developers
asked the following questions that we really don’t know the answers to. I
was hoping someone on this list would be able to provide some insight
here. We have been looking through all the guides and it never really
talks about this.

Here are the questions:

What happens if you modify an in-house custom built form or object in Best
Practice mode and it creates an overlay? How do you recover from that and
remove the overlay? Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Two-part question here:

1st… Does anyone know of a quick way to extract JUST THE NAMES of all
objects on a Remedy server? (i.e. Forms, Active Links, Filters, etc.)
Please tell me that I don’t have to manually extract them from a DEF file
or type them all. (Please.) My preference is to be able to isolate this
by application rather than an entire server dump.

2nd… I have been asked to consider Remedy in terms of “widgets” as we move
to “agile development”. The first step in that is to define “widget” as
it relates to Remedy development. My thought is that object = widget,
though an argument could be made that all actions within objects that
support forms could be defined as such. Any thoughts on this or insight
on past experience in this process would be appreciated.

Hi Sam,

Unfortunately there’s no switch to turn off this behavior in FF.
Mozillas new update policy is to stay on the front page of IT sites by
pushing out new major versions at crazy speeds. Our software guys rolled
out FF 14 yesterday, but the bug hasn’t been addressed yet.

Some guys have fiddled with AR css files trying to find a solution.
BMC knows about the issue; the last statement I read was something like
“stay on FF 12 until we fix it”.

Hi All,

Having trouble getting rid of the default value for a selection type field
in web service mapping. The selection field does not have any default
value
but still when it's being mapped in the web service the first value of the
selection field is getting picked up as a default value. I tried removing
it
but the default value gets filled in again when web service is saved.

I am trying to find a way to remove the default value in web service
mappings. With the default value in the mapping when I do a get list
action
on the web service it returns the default value for that field even it is
null in the actual record.

ARS 7.6.04 SP3, ITSM 7.6.04 SP2

Help please!

Thanks in Advance.

Is it the login page that is breaking the iframe? There is javascript you

Hey, we are in the middle of testing for a mid-tier upgrade and noticed an
issue. Most of our current mid-tier pages are embedded in iframes. For
guest type pages, they work, no problem. But, pages that require a
login, they are popping the login page out of the mid-tier. This is a
problem because several of these applications have navigation in the HTML
page, not the mid-tier form. We are currently on mid-tier 7.5, where it's
working fine, and are trying to upgrade to 7.6.04 SP3, where it's causing
issues.

We have had this working fine on 6.3, 7.0, and 7.5. We need to finish the
upgrade by this weekend, or we will have to wait until next year, so the
deadline is tight.

Thanks,
Josh Bray

2012-07-05 Thread Jon Slaven
Hi Ali,

Apologies for the late response, I was on vacation.

You have to install the Stylish plugin for Firefox, and add that as a
script (essentially Stylish allows you to add to the CSS for a site or
page). Don't forget to change the domain to match your server/balancer's
name.

If you're looking for a system-wide fix, you'd have to edit the Remedy CSS
file(s) directly on the mid-tier.

Thanks,

Support did give us a fix to apply directly to the ARSystem.css file on
each mid-tier:
--

/* Workaround for firefox issue where a horizontal scrollbar appears
inside a text field */
textarea.sr {
padding-bottom:3px;
}

The simplest way to fix this would just be to add the overflow:hidden to
this block in the css file.

Modify the /resources/moz/stylesheets/ARSystem.css as follows:

/* Workaround for firefox issue where a horizontal scrollbar appears
inside a text field */
textarea.sr {
padding-bottom:3px;
overflow:hidden;
}

Please flush the browser and tomcat cache after making the changes and
perform the test.
---

In fact, the browsers read the ARSystem.css file when logging in to a new
session and there was no need to flush the mid-tier cache.

What is the general consensus regarding re use of login id's?
My concern is this = Login ID User1 is used by an employee for 6 months.
That employee leaves the company. Someone new gets hired, in a new support
group, and our support center then reuses User1 as a login id. Now if an
auditor queries for all data modified by 'last update user' = User1,
they are going to get everything from both users who shared a login id,
different data, different support groups, basically a mess - right? I seem
to remember having the don't re-use login id's discussion in the past
and the answer was don't do that - thoughts anyone?

private investment firm to push their own people onto the board of
directors because they haven't been able to make a compelling enough
business case to make the current board do what *they* want.

There goes the neighborhood! I hope this doesn't turn out like the

Annual meeting is July 25, so I wouldn't expect any fireworks until around
then. The interesting thing is one of the votes on the agenda is:

5. TO VOTE ON A STOCKHOLDER PROPOSAL SUBMITTED BY ELLIOTT ASSOCIATES, L.P.
AND ELLIOTT INTERNATIONAL, L.P. REGARDING THE REPEAL OF PROVISIONS OR
AMENDMENTS OF THE COMPANY'S AMENDED AND RESTATED BYLAWS, AS SET FORTH IN
THE PROXY STATEMENT.

While there's no other details that I can find, I'm assuming this is the
repeal of the poison pill amendment that was adopted by the board. Will
be interesting to see how the stockholders feel.

Regarding the links that Joel noted (see below), does anyone else have
some insight into the accusations made by Elliot Mgmt? Personally, I’m
glad that BMC did not completely lose themselves in SaaS, what I see as
another ‘bubble’ technology that will be bursting in the next few years as
companies realize how little value they get from most SaaS vendors, and
how much they have to spend to do even the most basic customization. What
are opinions on the sales and other issues? Any sales/partners that would
like to chime in on this?

This may explain the silence:

Re: AIE Re-Install

this line is making me think that the installer you're using is an older SP
than the version you currently have installed.

i believe there is an AIE only download on BMC's site. that would be worth a
shot.

to me that sounds pretty self-explanitory. it looks like you're trying to use
the 7.6.04 SP0 installer over top of a 7.6.04 SP1 installation

I'd set the ARS service to Automatic (Delayed). We have to do that here for
a different reason (too much startup activity is causing the RDP host service
to fail)

Not quite sure what you're asking... do you want to know how to create a menu

 (Attributes - Menu Name)

Most browsers have spellcheck built in already... as for grammar check, it
doesn't seem like it would work too well in a ticket.

I do remember there being a free online spell/grammar check that you could call
from web apps, can't think of the name of it off hand (not even sure it's still
around).
