Re: a question for jayde

Yeah, I've definitely addressed all those questions before, but to sum it up:1. I'm intending that the game be for PC primarily. I'm not at a point where I'd want to release it to mobile, as that's a whole other environment.2. I'm intending to sell it, which means that yes, I'd be willing to compensate a coder for their time, but I don't have hard and fast rules on how that would get done. We'd have to talk shop if someone was interested.3. Turn-based JRPG is what we're after here. Movement similar to A Hero's Call.4. As far as complexity, a few points. Entities need to be able to modify their AI based on conditions (i.e., if you use a fire spell on a monster, it can respond with an ice spell, and other such things). Multi-person party that can be changed on the fly (again, think A Hero's Call). Zoning on maps (for instance, a road is safe but the surrounding map has random encounters on it). Rudimentary day-night system, and NPCs (including enemies) which react a little differently depending on whether it's day or night. Skills and spells learned via level-up, some of which have their own interactions (i.e., rage for barbarians, shadows for illusionists, learning certain enemy spells for scholars, etc.).

lol Frankly, I don't even want to worry about sound yet, since I don't have coding lined up. That'd be a lot llike kitting out a car with all the bells and whistles (leather interior, a great stereo with a sub-woofer, sunroof or a pop-top, nice paint job, custom body) without sticking an engine in it. And a car with no engine is basically just decoration. I need an engine before anything will run.

Bingo. I won't even consider sounds or music that isn't legal. I mean, I'm sure if I dug around enough, I could take some Final Fantasy/Chrono Trigger sounds and music and probably end up with a pretty believable soundscape for the game, with a little extra splashed in. But I am absolutely -not gonna do that. This needs to either be wholly original, or, more likely, it needs to be legally obtained and modified. The true hurdle at least so far is code. I understand code logic, sorta kinda, so I generally know what is and isn't possible. But I can't actually do programming. At all. Completely useless in that sense.

If you check out the Sable thread, I already asked a question there to see if the sort of things I wanted could be handled. It was demonstrated that the sort of complexity I'm after is well beyond Sable, at least thus far. That doesn't mean Sable is terrible. I'm not against it. It just won't work for what I want to do with this game. And when I say most of my heavy lifting is done, what I mean is, I have design docs for stats and gear and whatever else. Literally all I'd have to do is write out a script, create the proper entities once all the underpinnings were built, then get into the sound side. I have exactly zero experience with sound on my own end, but I am a musician, so I have an idea of what I'm after. Whether that means digging up tracks off the internet and paying licensing fees, or creating a custom sound track, I don't know and frankly I'm not that far along.

Re: a question for jayde

Short answer: I'd still like to make it.I had a coder lined up back in 2017, but that ultimately didn't work out.I had interest from a coder in 2020 as well, someone who was going to look at using their engine to try and build it. They asked me to provide a basic prototype, something simple to sort of test everything I was looking for. I did that. Haven't heard too much since. So I'd still love to, but I'm getting the sense that if I can't find a dedicated coder and at least one sound-design person, it may never actually come to fruition. Most of my heavy lifting is done already, mind you.

Re: Shadow Rine After Story Puzzle Help

My only excuse - and it's more of an explanation, not an excuse - is that this happens a lot. And it's a little close to my heart because I'm big on sharing info and making it accessible to people. What I'm not so big on is re-sharing that info over and over because people don't bother looking for themselves, or make a token effort and then give up. All that does is normalize dependency, and I'm not big on that. I didn't spend dozens of hours of my life writing guides, playing games, writing down findings and, yes, answering questions just so people could keep asking the same things repeatedly. So it bothers me when I feel like folks don't respect that, and just want stuff fed to them after doing nothing more than ask for help. It's a sore spot for me.If info is available in search, I'm going to direct you there. If the info is -easily available in search and you didn't find it, I'm probably going to point that out. My advice: just don't mention that you tried using search if you didn't bother or didn't try very hard. That said, yes, I went too far here, and I apologized. I will endeavour not to do this in future.StarFire, I agree. Nocturnus is usually very calm, while I'm not always calm. I don't feel the need to remain calm at all times, particularly if I feel some sort of emotional response is warranted. The flip side, though, is that even when some emotional response makes sense, sometimes the strength of it doesn't match whatever caused it. This is the thing I'm working on. If you expect me to just remain even and level at all times, it will never happen. However, expecting me to be fair is completely reasonable, and calling me out when I'm not is likewise fine with me. I have thick skin.

Re: Shadow Rine After Story Puzzle Help

I was harsh, but in my first post in this thread, I wrote:"I typed "zodiac puzzle" into the search bar. Fourth post down gave me the solution."It bears mentioning that the very act of quoting my own hint, and the mention of that particular phrase, has probably bumped it down the queue to seventh or eighth by now. But it's still there. I just checked. So I gave you a hint to go straight to the solution. If you were unclear on keywords somehow, I just clarified it for you. Instead of just responding with something like, "Oh hey, didn't realize it would be that simple", or even acknowledging in any way that my solution would help you, you just took issue with my harshness. As far as I see it, there is fault on both sides here.Yes, I'll apologize for the extent of my harshness. I do think you only put in a token effort, but insinuating that you might have been lying went too far. That's not fair, and I won't do that again. What I won't apologize for is asking you to use the search feature, and then calling you out for basically not doing so.To answer why I often ask people to do it? Because it's here for a reason, and while we're here to help one another, sometimes the best way to help someone is to show them how to help themselves. Even in post 2, where I was admittedly too sharp, I gave you the help you wanted, indirectly. If you go through my exhortations for people to use the search feature, you'll usually see that I give some sort of pointer or advice along with my admonishment. Take it or leave it, but I'm not just yelling for the sake of yelling, and I won't take blame for asking you to use a tool at your disposal. So sure, I was too sharp. You were too defensive though IMO. Next time it would be nice if you acknowledged the help and maybe took a little more initiative. I will be less critical in future, but I am not going to stop advocating for people to search things out for themselves. And I tell you what. If I ever ask a question with a really simple answer that I failed to search, by all means turn this around on me. You know what you'll get from me? "Oh hell, I'm an idiot. Okay, searching now." Game over.

Re: Shadow Rine After Story Puzzle Help

I think the keyword "zodiac" is self-explanatory. You used it yourself.I also think the word "puzzle" is pretty self-explanatory, and I don't think claiming otherwise actually holds any water here.If all you use is the word "zodiac", then yeah, you're going to get less helpful results. But if you do that, then narrow your search by adding another keyword - since this is a riddle or brain-teaser that could otherwise be called a puzzle - the results are straightforward.Seriously, this is not rocket science. If you have played Shadow Line far enough that you even beat the game, then clearly you have the requisite mental skills to 1. set up the game in the first place, 2. deal with choppy translation and 3. get around trickier areas like the temple basement. This presupposes a relatively strong ability to process data, thus lowering sharply the likelihood that some sort of brain injury or intellectual disability is at play here. Now, if it turns out that you played most of this game in the past, and have since acquired some sort of brain injury of some kind, I will happily apologize, because that definitely changes the data.Otherwise though? You're a reasonably intelligent person who couldn't be bothered to use a simple set of two keywords - zodiac puzzle - before asking for help. Thus, in the absence of other information, that's pure laziness. You don't get plausible deniability for claiming that the correct keywords are obscure or otherwise hard to find, because they aren't. There are certain cases where this would be true; this isn't one of them. Please, folks, use the search feature. And if you don't, and I call you out on it, please don't try and defend your lack of use of the search feature, because I know how to follow through on that in a way that's going to make you look even worse. If the thing you're after is ridiculously specific, then the search feature won't be well-equipped to handle it. But for the solution to the zodiac puzzle in Shadow Line, it's a freaking lock.

Honest question then. If that's true, why do I never, ever have problems with it unless I try to search something insanely generic?Every time someone has said "I tried using the search feature", they don't say that it acted up or glitched, they just say they couldn't find the info. Yet I can always find it in under two minutes, usually less. I'm sorry, but while I accept what you're saying - search isn't perfect - I just don't see a reason to accept that as an explanation here.

Re: A problem in Manamon 1

If you play with SAPI, the way Aaron wants you to, Manamon 1 is a laggy mess. If you use NVDA, both manamon 1 and 2 are fairly responsive, though 2 is better. Also, fun fact. I made a small mistake in exact box-puzzle directions, and didn't bother fixing it. I haven't played that part of the game in awhile. But guess what? I decided to leave it slightly wrong. Here's why.You know how in the guide I tell people to follow walls? Yeah, people would still email me telling me they couldn't find x. In most cases, the answer is "follow walls". I dealt with this early on the forum as well.People would ask me where manamon x was. I'd tell them to read the guide; it's all there. Then they'd ask about a different manamon shortly thereafter. So on the one hand, I felt it wasn't worth my while to update the guide. On the other hand, I left in something that isn't quite right because while I do want you to follow instructions, I also want you to think and advocate for yourself. I didn't screw you over; the problem is very easy to fix, and if you listen closely in any case, you should be able to see where my guide goes slightly astray.

So if you're like 200 points behind at level 99, and you don't have any life tonics left, go and fight weak stuff so you get really awful exp. There is almost nothing better. Warrior-cleric is really, really, really hard to kill before late Archais. It's not something that's going to put out insane damage, and you're absolutely going to have to juggle stats a little. But if you want a class just to get used to things, this is actually what I suggest. No minion upkeep, no obsessive worry about clev and whatnot. You also need to cover necro-warrior as a viable build. I've been on the game off and on since 2009, and a couple of the most successful necros I've ever seen have secondary warrior so they can actually hit from behind their minions. I am not a big fan of the build personally, but it absolutely does work.

Trust me. It gets better. Most nonlegendary manamon stop learning moves by around level 60. Some will learn a move or two after this, but it's not common. It's very rare to see a manamon below level 50 that has no moves left to learn.

Titan of War, please, please use the search feature.I am not going to answer any of your questions. You're super early in the game by the sound of things. Just play and find out. And if you really want info before you'd naturally have it, use the search feature and look up manamon. It'll take a bit to find what you want, but you'll get there.I appreciate that you're enjoying the game, and that's awesome. But please, try and play for yourself instead of basically asking people to hold your hand right from early in the game. Here's one tip I will give you, to get you started:You can find both Daggeetle and Gossolo before you even reach the third stadium, if you want one of them. Also? Dropping a manamon at level 17 because it doesn't get good moves is like listening to a song for twelve seconds, or reading two hundred words in a novel, and deciding you hate it. Most manamon do not get their best moves until later.

Re: New Alter Aeon Section on BSG

That's actually not accurate. What happens is that usually, classes are five levels apart. All classes except the one you pick on character creation start at level 0, not level 1. So your first five levels (level 1 to level 6) will be in your main class. Then you pick your secondary class. At that point, you'll be trading levels back and forth, keeping your main and secondary five apart, until you reach level 11 in main and 6 in second. Then you pick your third class, and it goes on from there. Now, it's entirely possible, especially earlier on, to swap class order. You'll pay a bunch of experience for it, but you can technically grind up any class you want. If you really, really want a certain skill or spell, and want to bump one of your classes up a little to get it, you can do that. Generally I don't recommend it, but it can be done.

I guess what people are saying is, you've made several projects before, and should have figured this out in your first project, not your fifth or sixth or whatever. That it took you this long, and that you resisted this hard for this long, isn't a good look. Yes, it's good that you got there in the end, but it's going to take a lot of time before you're trusted. Don't turn that back on the people who don't trust you. Your only responsibility right now is to do better, and be better. If you can actually do that, and stick to it, then you will earn your trust back in time. Just give it time. The slate is not clean, and you can't expect it to be for awhile.

Re: Golden Crayon Asset Replacement Project

Tunmi, here's the deal. The time to have been sourcing good sounds (i.e., noncopyrighted assets) was -before you made the game public, not under duress from the community. The reason people are mad at you is because you are dragging your feet.Look, I get that a lot of folks use copyrighted assets. You aren't the only one. No one is saying that you are. Most people, when they're caught, make a strong effort to fix things. Some don't, and those which don't usually end up getting blacklisted. You are making an effort, sort of, and that's a start. But "Hey guys can you help me" is not making an effort, it's passing the buck. There is absolutely nothing wrong with sourcing development if you truly are in over your head. It happens. If I ever make a game, I will need a coder and at least one sound person because this is knowledge I simply don't have. However, you're coming across in a way that's really hurting you, because you don't seem to have a problem with stealing assets as long as you aren't held responsible for it. If this is, in fact, the case, then you're going to roast as an object lesson.

Re: Golden Crayon Asset Replacement Project

GCW, I like your compromise. I think Tunmi bears responsibility and needs to do more than just pass responsibility off to someone else for his screw-up. But at the same time, I don't necessarily think that means he should do 100% of the labour. Doing some of it would definitely give people the idea that not only did he admit he was wrong, but now he's trying to fix it. At that point, everyone else helping him is simply speeding up a process, not replacing his labour for their own. I quite like this.I take this sort of logic and apply it to everyday life. If you do something ugly to someone, and you at first make excuses or won't apologize or won't acknowledge the harm, then I'm not really interested in helping you, giving you second chances, etc. But if you say something like, "Look, I screwed up, and I'm sorry, and I'm not quite sure how to get better", and if I get the idea that the person means it, then I'll meet them halfway. This fits even better with, say, something like addiction, where the behaviour is destructive, but the user feels a compelling need to keep doing it. If you make no effort to change, I have no desire to help. If you make an effort, even if you wobble or you're slow or you're not quite sure, and if that effort is consistent, then that sets up your intent, displays it for all and sundry to see, and while good intent doesn't erase harm, it makes said harm a little easier to come back from.

Re: an appeal

Here's a pick and spade to dig that hole deeper. When you say "I'm sorry", what you're actually saying is, "I shouldn't have done that and I'm going to try very hard to stop".If you keep having to say you're sorry for the same thing, your apologies are meaningless. Because clearly you haven't been learning.A good apology is a good start. I'll give you that. But you actually have to mean it, and so far you haven't.The word "sorry" does not wipe the slate clean. It merely asks someone to give you a chance to fix your mistake. If you keep not fixing it, and keep apologizing, trust in you is going to erode. That's what's happened here.So there are no objections. Stop flailing. Get busy doing better, or just go away and stop inflicting yourself on communities that would, in your current state at least, be better off without you.Okay. Really done this time.

Don't brag beforehand, and don't do it afterword. If you know someone well, and they know you, and you want to tease each other, that's different. But some random person does not need your taunting. Taunting doesn't actually prove how good you are; it just makes you a jerk.If you and I wanted to play chess, and I sat down at the board across from you and immediately said, "You have no chance of beating me, bro. I'm going to wipe you right off the map", how would you feel?Because if you did it to me, I would get up and walk away. Literally walk away. I have no interest in your posturing, and I suspect that about 98% of any given community feels the same way.And as LordLundin pointed out, this has reached trolling levels, since the dude started by saying he's not breaking rules. Re: an appeal

No I didn't. Neither did Dark. Neither has anyone else.By talking about all the rules you're not breaking, you're signalling that you think being banned either isn't fair or is, at worst, too harsh for the annoyance you cause. And as far as intention goes? Dude, don't try that, you'll get destroyed. You are in physical control of how you behave. You are aware that the behaviour upsets people. You continue to behave in ways that upset people. When challenged, you try to defend yourself (yes, I see exactly what you're doing) by saying that what you're doing isn't literally against the rules. This is called gaslighting. If you do this to friends, you will soon find yourself friendless. If you eventually do it to a romantic partner, you'll quickly end up single. If you do it to communities, you will get a well-deserved reputation as a first-class troll who does not deserve to participate in those communities, because his sole mission objective is to experience that community on his own terms. You're going to be the dude that no one wants to be around because all he does is piss people off. In fact, you're well on your way already. This isn't everybody else's fault because they didn't explicitly make rules to stop your behaviour. This isn't the fault of other users because they can't just shut you out or ignore you. This isn't the fault of communities at large because they decide when they see you to kick you out before the inevitable trouble. This is your fault. I guess you missed that particular memo from my last message.Your fault. No one else's.Stop talking about rules.Stop talking about excuses.Stop talking about "your way". When you enter a community, you're tacitly agreeing to behave in a way that indicates that you want to remain there. Remaining there means playing nice. If you can't do that, you don't deserve to stay. It's really just as simple as that.

Okay, let me get this straight. You make a point of knowing what the rules are, then taunt, bait, annoy, troll and generally frustrate virtually anyone who gets near you until you get kicked out. That's pretty much what you said. You aren't characterizing this as something you can't help. You're making it look like all of this is on purpose, with full awareness that you're pissing people off, and with full awareness that the rules of whatever community you're in aren't explicitly designed to deal with you.So first off, let me say that there is far more dangerous behaviour someone can get themselves involved in. Soliciting people who are underage is one of them. Threatening bodily harm and intending it is another. You're not doing that. But you are still basically poisoning every community you touch. And the harm you cause, it's your fault. Every shred of it. Every bit. Own it. Your fault. No arguments. Your fault. No exceptions. Your fault.Have I made that clear yet? Now, you may be asking why I'm so damned harsh all of a sudden. Here's why. There is only one responsible person in this equation.You.Forget everything I might have said about people chasing you around and making your life difficult. Frankly, if someone -is, in fact, doing that, then they're doing communities a favour by warning them of someone who's just showed up there, who has every intention of annoying the almighty snot out of everyone in range until he gets his ass booted out. You get zero sympathy from me on this. You aren't being persecuted here, bro. You are at fault, and you are the -only one at fault. So guess what that means? You, and only you, have to change your behaviour. The next time you go to a new MUD or a new community, make a conscious effort not to do those things, and see what happens.Doing the things you said you do is not competitive, and it's not funny. It's pointless, and antagonistic. You aren't "improving competition", you're just proving that your primary aim is to disrupt communities. This is a really excellent reason for people to want you to not show up. In order for that opinion to change, the behaviour which sparked said opinion has to change, and over a long period of time. You can't just say, "Well I was on mud X for three hours and I didn't piss anyone off, so we're cool now, right?". No. This is going to take months, literally months, to come back from. And it starts with a full, open and unconditional apology to everyone you have hurt, with a commitment to do better. And it ends with a change in your behaviour that stands the test of time.Look, it's totally okay to sometimes (and I do mean sometimes) brag about something you did. It's also okay in many communities to trash-talk a little when you're competing against someone. These things in moderation are still a little edgy but they're not awful. Example: if I'm playing chess with a friend, and he's got a knight in a square I don't want it in, I will move a piece to attack the knight, and I might say, "Fuck off, knight. Go home." or "Yeah, I don't think you're staying there. Good try though". I do this with my friend because we know the sort of teasing and ribbing we can tolerate from one another. It's not mean, it's just another form of play. That sort of thing among friends is fine, it's even common and sometimes encouraged in certain circles. But if you know full well that you're just making people angry, then there is absolutely no question of your path forward from here.Given a choice between option 1 (being hidden, getting help from others) and option 2 (changing your behaviour), it's not really a choice. Nobody should bear any burden for your bad behaviour except you.

When and if you get stuck, look up the specific thing you're stuck on. Master Dyaz, Hyper Symphonid, Lower Catacombs, whatever it is.And right there, I've just given you clues that will let you find the enormous thread I started in 2019 about Manamon 2. See? What'd we tell ya?For future reference, I would say three to seven days is a reasonable response time. If you get one sooner than this, great! If you go past three to seven days with no communication whatsoever, then it's time to take the next step. Also remember that Aaron lives in the United States, so you're in a completely different time zone. That's important. When you came in this morning and said you hadn't heard from Aaron yet, I wasn't surprised; Aaron was probably sleeping, as most people do at night. For you it might have been daytime, but for Aaron it wasn't.Long story short: be a little more patient in the future, but I'm glad this ended well. Enjoy the game. Also? If you're playing the game and you get stuck, please, please use the search feature to try and help yourself out.

2021-03-08 Thread AudioGames . net ForumGeneral Game Discussion : Jayde via Audiogames-reflector

Re: an appeal

I'm actually gonna go a half-step further than Jack.On the one hand, yes, you're admitting that you've behaved badly. Good start. But in the next breath, you're asking for other people to help you by essentially letting you show up somewhere without being immediately flagged. This is putting the responsibility largely on the people you are afraid will persecute you on sight. And sure, they might be out there, but I think the greater responsibility is to your own behaviour. My last analogy was flimsy, so here's a better one.Let's say you're in a relationship with someone, and you treated them badly for long enough that they left you. Let's say they got a restraining order against you, demanding that you not be allowed within 200 meters of them. That restraining order has been filed and made public (just work with me here). Everybody knows that you have a habit of, say, getting angry for little reason and yelling and throwing things.Okay, so first of all, if you've hit that point, that's very likely on you, or primarily on you. No one, absolutely no one, is obligated to forgive you. Are we clear on this? But most people will, if given time and space, and if provided with proof that you aren't just empty talk. Actions have consequences, and in your case, one of those consequences is that people don't trust you to be civil. It depends on how vile your actions were. So let's keep going. When you come here and ask for people to help you find some MUDS via private message, that's a little bit like asking your victim's friends where your victim hangs out so that you can, say, watch them from a distance, or can show up without them realizing you are there. You want to sidestep your negative reputation. Here's the fact: you have a reputation for being dangerous/undesirable, and by your own admission, you earned it. If you're trying to circumvent that by getting onto games without anyone knowing it's you, and if you're asking the people who come here to help you, you're tacitly stating that you think the greater problem is with your being judged, not with your behaviour itself. To you, the snap judgments made about you by people who might not know you are a bigger factor than the behaviour which instigated those judgments in the first place. This means that, unfortunately, you really aren't owning your shit, dude. Pro-tip: it starts with unconditional, uncomplicated commitment to be better.

Re: an appeal

Sometimes, your reputation, or your perceived reputation, will precede you everywhere you go, and sometimes that means you might feel as if you're being judged before you have a chance to demonstrate your intentions or set the record straight. Sure, I can buy that. But what you're doing here is asking other people to give you the benefit of the doubt, and modify their behaviour a little, all because it's -your reputation that's been trashed. This isn't reasonable. It's sort of like asking an abuse victim to be your therapist after you made them cry and they told you they weren't going to be friends with you anymore.Let me put this another way. When you screw up, when you end up with a can tied to your tail, you have usually (not always, but usually) earned it. The work should be yours, and yours alone, to fix it.So here, how about this test. There are literally hundreds of MUDs out there. Go check out mudconnector or something, and find one you aren't well known in. Go there with a different name, and try your best to behave. See if you can establish a good reputation there. The goal here is not to convince everyone that they were wrong about you. The goal is to convince everyone that you've changed. Huge, huge difference.

Most do, but some purely web-based companies do not.If you have trouble with Gmail, you should try to get it to switch to basic HTML view. That's what I did, and it works like a charm. Re: code 7

Bingo. You just hit on what I've often experienced myself.Fun fact: I used to be the absolute king of "don't spoil it" when developing on a browser-based RPG. I would propose and sometimes build really weird quests and interactions, then either give no clues at all, give really insanely elaborate clues that only made sense if you know how I think, or would get annoyed when people asked for help. It took someone doing for me what I basically just did for you to make me realize that while it's totally fine not to just pour out all the info for nothing, there's a fine line between guiding, force-feeding and just being vague. I have since become overly critical of people who build obscure things purely to screw with folks, so I used that "gatekeeping" phrase. I don't like the practice. I'm sorry if that upset you, because you're quite right about Lerna...I'm not there yet and so I don't have any right to judge how "ephemeral" those hints actually are.spoilerysidequestupdatespoilersSQPC2: Ooh, very clever. Silly conservatives and their dead ends (see, now -there is a weird reference, lol)Induction: I was an idiot, full stop. Totally skipped a document. You were right.Dude who likes cinnamon: Starting to wonder if this is a bug. I know who he is, what he likes, where he went on a trip, and an important date. Six data pieces overall, but can't find any more of them. I've never seen a brute-force attack require this many bits of info, so I'm wondering if even cracking this thing is worthwhile.Weird files and glitchy text: I parsed it. Nice easter egg. Not useful, but I like background info.spoilersendVery obviously, I or anyone who implies, by accident or on purpose, that you have a responsibility to help isn't being reasonable. I am grateful for the hints I do get, and I do try to do it all myself before asking. I will endeavour to be even more careful going forward (seriously, missing docs in plain sight is just bad), but I practically guarantee I'll ask for help again. You have definitely made this process a lot smoother than I thought it would be.I guess at the end of the day, it's a question of motivation. I want people to have fun and enjoy the experience more than anything else. I don't have a strong desire to make them suffer as much as I did, and I don't feel bad if someone lets them blast through an area I would once have struggled with. That said, I can also see the perspective where, when this happens, it cheapens the experience. What I can say, however, is this: I don't intend to start giving out explicit descriptions and spoiler hints based on what I know. Like you, I will guide/nudge instead of just saying "go here, do this". The game is never the same after a first playthrough though, not story-wise at least.

Well you have to have NVDA installed, of course. But it's in options. It'll say "switch to screenreader: not recommended". The only reason it says "not recommended" is because Aaron doesn't want you to skip certain things. Playing with a screenreader means you will have to hit Enter more often, but you will very quickly get used to it.

Hi, Mayana,No, I don't feel like you have been gatekeeping me. I said that in response to other responses I have seen to other users. You are stingy about giving out spoilers. You have every right to do this if you choose, and no one should weaponize it against you. I was saying that I do not like gatekeeping when it comes oo this sort of thing, because at the end of the day, we're here to have fun, not beat our heads against walls.I know you're not an official customer service person - you said as much - but I'm sort of taking you as the local expert, which means you're the first person I'm apt to ask a question of if I get stuck. That said, I do appreciate the extra hints, and will try hard to incorporate them the next time I bust out the game. If nothing else, you should try and take my last message as me indeed asking for extra hints, rather than as me trying to criticize you. We have different ethos when it comes to spoiling people, but not -vastly different. I, too, would rather see someone try hard before just giving them answers (seriously, have you seen how many times I've asked people to use the search feature?), but some of the hints you've given others are, in a word, ephemeral. That said, I'm gonna find out how helpful this was. Thank you for your patience.

Re: Manamon games

Want to grind faster?1. Switch to NVDA. Not kidding here; this vastly speeds up gameplay.2. Turn off attack sound effects.3. Profit.A clarification though: experience doesn't flatten the longer you stay in an area. Experience flattens based on what level you are, vs. the level of the opponent. so if for some reason you were able to fight 50 manamon in one area without gaining too many levels, the experience curve wouldn't start to flatten till you started gaining more levels. So in other words, let's say the Fyrates you're killing are giving you 1300 exp per. Now let's say you artificially inflated your exp to level to 20. Before levelling, you wouldn't magically see Fyrates starting to give you 900 experience all of a sudden; that might only happen once you gain a level or two.

If there is a reason, is there a way, or have I potentially locked myself out of finding out extra details?Third, I'm sort of a completionist. Every time optional dialogue comes up, I usually engage it. I'm not looking for specifics here, but are there ever points where that will get me killed/shut me out of something important/do something else undesirable, or is it just for further background?Fourth, a technical issue. While navigating, if I'm exploring a file tree, and I hit tab to highlight something, and wait more than about a quarter of a second, hitting the backspace or escape key does not bring me to the previous level of the tree. For instance, if I start on a computer that has files, utilities and hardware, and I click files, if I hit tab to reach the audio folder, but realize I don't want to be in this sub-directory, hitting escape or backspace does not return me to where I was before entering that sub-directory. It doesn't bring me back up a level. However, if I navigate quickly (as in, within half a second or so), it works. Is this a known issue, and is there a way to fix it?That's all for now. Spark Punch is great on Javoltrik. Thunder Hammer is a nice move, but it kind of puts your defenses in the tank eventually. Sparking Tail is nice pure electric damage, but misses a fair bit. Hammer Head is nice fighting coverage but...ahem, again, bad coverage. Spark Punch is absolutely useless on earth types, is resisted by electric/plant types, so it's kind of a mixed bag. Javoltrik isn't terrible, it's just not all that great, that's all. From memory, Dussocket has better coverage, better stats and a better typing...also, no double weakness to magic to screw with. Electric+shadow is only weak to fighting, poison, holy and earth, and it is immune to one of electric's primary weaknesses (magic). On the attacking side, electric+shadow is super-effective against magic, air, water, ghost, while electric-fighting is super-effective against air, standard, stone, ice and steel. So it's not a completely one-sided fight.

Good news. I beat episode 0.Bad news: I tried that trick to change SAPI speed and it...didn't work. I.e., I changed the voice, changed the voice rate, but it didn't take, for some reason.Good news: tab makes this much, much easier to play with; I feel like I remember a build early on where you had to type in damn near everything.Bad news: While I did beat the game, I feel like I missed something by killing the robot, but I have no idea how to -not kill him.Good news: I found your tips folder. I won't especially spoil myself unless I get really stuck, but it's nice to know that things are there if I get hung up.Bad news: I can already foresee Muffin trouble in my future.Thank you for your help, by the way. Myaneko can say the same, though Myaneko is still pretty awful because its defenses are trash.Glad you liked the manamon 1 guide though.

Re: code 7

I'm bringing this topic back up, since it seems to be one place where people ask questions about this game.I played episode 0 a few years back, watched pieces of Liam's stream and decided to take the plunge and get into this game, since the snips of the story I saw were very intriguing. However, I have several questions.1. Dear god, is there any way to use NVDA over SAPI? SAPI is infamous, absolutely infamous, for mangling the living hell out of in-game text. It's readable, but it's annoying. Would much rather hear NVDA/eloquence do this. I can live with it if I must, mind you.2. Pursuant to point 1, is there any way to speed up the speech? It's very, very slow, and there appears to be no readme or documentation on this.3. Can someone clarify how you're supposed to access stored information? For instance, I'm trying to log onto Compt, I have a list of usernames, yet hitting return (the way the game tells you to) seems to dump me back a screen without doing anything. I've been monkeying with this game for half an hour, and already I am starting to grow frustrated at the interface. Once I get used to it - since I know it does work - I'm sure I'll be fine, but right now I'm really regretting my thirty bucks.4. If there is a place where hints/general game talk is encouraged, is it worth going there for further questions? I am the "explore everything, try everything" sort of player, so I don't expect to ever get completely stonewalled, but still.5. Does this game still have several puzzles where if you're playing in blind-friendly mode, the game will just take over and solve them? If so, how much of the gameplay do they actually make up?6. Again, because there is no documentation, how the heck do you save and resume? I really don't want to have to do the same parts of the game over and over successfully just because I get frustrated and drop it.I appreciate any help I might receive for these questions. This game really grabbed me with its atmosphere, but I'm hoping the hiccups I've experienced don't end up being reflective of the overall gameplay for me.

Re: Sable - A code free tool for creating RPG's (New 1.4 change log added)

Lem, I will absolutely avail myself of beta-testing opportunity for Crimson Eclipse at the first available opportunity. RPGs (writing, game design, testing) are right in my sweet spot, so I will have a ton of fun doing this, and I feel like I can be an asset to that sort of game development. There are a bunch of things I would love my own RPG to be able to do, but one of the biggest is customizable AI. I'll give you an example of what I'm talking about. Could Sable handle this level of complexity?Name: Stoneheart and GemheartDescription: Two small orbs, one made from rock and the other from onyx or diamondNotes: Before battle actually begins, each of these entities essentially summons a construct to encapsulate them; Stoneheart summons Rock Titan, Gemheart summons Crystal Behemoth. When players do enough damage to either of these entities, Stoneheart or Gemheart will be visible again and can be damaged. The fight ends when both Stoneheart and Gemheart are dead.Stats (Rock Titan): significant HP, high attack, extremely high physical defense, modest magic attack, fairly low magic defense, low initiativeStats (Crystal Behemoth): significant HP, modest attack, fairly low defense, high magic attack, extremely high magic defense, low initiativeAttacks (Rock Titan): Stone Fist, Quake, Rock Barrage, Stone Prison, Rampart, Primal Bellow, Deathly CrushAttacks (Crystal Behemoth): Crystal Slash, Inner Glow, Shardstorm, Crystal Prison, Crystal Shield, Prism Flare, ShatterStone Fist: physical attackQuake: Magic spell that does modest earth damage to all targetsRock Barrage: a magic spell which hits random targets a total of 3-8 times for small earth damage on each hitStone Prison: Encapsulates a target in a block of stone; the target cannot move or act in any way until the character is hit by magic; when this happens, the block breaks and the character thus afflicted takes small earth damage from the shards of rockRampart: erects a rocky barricade in front of Crystal Behemoth; this barricade will completely block all physical attacks, but will crumble as soon as it is hit by magicPrimal Bellow: an attack which does no damage, but attempts to cast Silence on one random targetDeathly Crush: If there is a character affected by Stone Prison, this attack will succeed, and will instantly kill them; if not, the attack failsCrystal Slash: normal physical attack; high critical hit chance (+9% from normal)Inner Glow: A buff which lasts till the end of the next turn; boosts magic attack by 12 pointsShardstorm: Magic spell which does 4-10 hits of nonelemental magic damage to random targetsCrystal Prison: Similar to Stone Prison, except that only a physical attack from the outside will break it.Crystal Shield: Erects a barrier in front of Rock Titan which will reflect all magic damage back at the caster. It will shatter upon a single physical hit, howeverPrism Flare: A spell which does no damage but attempts to inflict blindness on one characterShatter: This spell checks for any instances of Crystal Prison on the field; if it finds one, the target is killed instantly, and if it doesn't, the attack failsAttack Pattern: These bosses each use their attacks in sequence, one after the other, and thus act in very tight synergy. They will both cast single-target attacks on the same round, as well as their random-damage attacks, their prison traps, their blind/silence debuffs, and their instant-kill moves if available.Note on Stoneheart and Gemheart: When a player removes all of Rock Titan or Crystal Behemoth's HP, the appropriate entity will be generated.Stoneheart: decent HP, extremely high defense, decent magic attack, low magic defenseGemheart: decent HP, low defense, decent magic attack, extremely high magic defenseEach of these entities has only one attack each.Tremble: Does very low earth damage to all targets; every time this attack is used in sequence, it gets stronger by 10%Rising Shine: Does very low nonelemental magic damage to all targets; every time this attack is used in sequence, it gets stronger by 10%Stoneheart and Gemheart each possess an innate trait, where on the tenth round they're active, they will summon another Rock Titan/Crystal Behemoth at full HP, and thereafter be unable to be targeted. The game will keep track of them, however, and will remember their HP for the next time they are visible.Note: Tremble and Rising Shine's damage is reset to its default level if Stoneheart or Gemheart are removed from play by re-summoning their protective constructs. Now, I know that's complicated, but that's the sort of boss fights I'd love to be able to create. Can Sable do reactive AI and/or patterns based on conditions? Would love to hear your feedback on this.

This is getting me all kinds of interested.I've spoken many times about makign  my own RPG, but have lacked a programmer, and can't do that work myself. I can do the writing and design aspects, and would need help with sound. But Sable looks like it's a game maker of sorts, so it might shortcut this.Would definitely have loved to be part of a beta test/build team for something like Crimson Eclipse, too. I have a ton of mainstream RPG experience, and it's my favourite genre by far.

Re: Does anyone have the special item pack for AHC?

You know what? As someone who was not able to back the game and thus lost out on those items, I'm okay with that. The people who backed the game at a pricepoint where they got the in-game bonuses did so under the impression that the unique gear they got was theirs alone, that it was their faith and not just their monetary donation amount that was being honoured. The faith element has since been removed, so there's just no way to make it even. As such, I support leaving it as is. I know I'll never get the gear, but since the gear is a reflection of a patron's faith in the project they backed, and since I did not provide any such faith (at least not in tangible form), I shouldn't be able to get in on that. I don't qualify.

Sirenea's best stats are special attack, special defense and speed. It also gets Shadow Sphere and Psycho Trick...and while Flood isn't quite as strong as Drench and doesn't have the potential to be as strong as Deluge, it never misses, and that's handy.Caboerain is kind of bad, because it is yet another manamon that is asked to split its stats between attack and special attack. It gets Steel Horn and Aquatic Blitz, which is fine, but then gets Lunar Cannon on the special side. This is a pretty big problem with such limited movesets.Agreed re: Vultair killing itself. In boss fights, it's bad. In tamer fights it works out pretty well. I like Chrono Core on this thing for multi-manamon fights, precisely because it will heal back pretty nicely.I'm...a bit confused about the phone thing. What would be the point of calling Alazza after you fight Hyper Grandlan? What is the  purpose of all of this, the end goal?

And Terramagma makes you attack last on the next turn, basically meaning your foe gets two whacks at killing you. This thing could have been better if it had had a secondary typing (magic, say?) and used that typing to good effect, but as it stands, it's a one-trick pony with little to recommend. Nah. Blaizond's best moveset is probably something like Blaze Rampage, Sharpen, Slash, Daring Comeback, Smoke Shield. Pure physical. And it hits like a truck. It's pretty one-dimensional though. For my money's worth, Lantlare is my favourite flame type in manamon 2. Not the speediest, but still reasonably quick, with good special attack (and yes, it gets Torch). Ghost+flame covers quite a bit.Don't count out Garganchan though. Yeah, it's a bit slow, but flame+fighting is another nice combo, and Manamon 2 gave it some more HP, plus Blaze Punch. It also gets Earthquake when it evolves into Garganchan for better coverage. I believe it also gets a strong stone move to whack air types, although that move is inaccurate. It has its problems, of course, but it can cover a lot of those problems by hitting hard.

Moderation:Keshav, I'm issuing you an official caution at this point.1. Half or more of your posts since arriving have been to beg for one game or another, usually Manamon 2.2. You have used the gifting thread (which is fine), but you've also repeatedly used other threads, including creating your own, to beg.3. You sent me, and god knows who else, personal messages about the subject. I did tell you in my reply that you needed to stop this behaviour, but you're still doing it.Asking once for a game is fine. Use the appropriate thread, if possible, but it's fine. Asking repeatedly, especially after being asked to stop by other users when no one has done as you request? That's not only grabby, it's rude. Any passing thought I might have to want to help you is now long, long gone. This is not the way to get people to be sympathetic to you. It's just going to make people annoyed. If you continue to plead for games in this way (via private messages, your own forum threads or by begging in other threads), this caution will be upgraded to an official warning. I'm of half a mind to make it a warning anyway, honestly, since I've got it on good authority that you've even been pestering people off the site for these games, but I can't very well fault you for behaviour off the forum. All it's telling me is that you really, really don't understand the damage you're doing here; my desire to make this an official warning instead of a caution is to make you forcibly understand that sometimes, actions have consequences you might not like. However, for now, a caution is what this is, albeit an extremely stern one. Stop it. Don't beg anymore. Participate on the forum. Talk to people, get involved with stuff, do whatever else it is you do. Maybe one day, someone will decide to help you out. But right now, it seems to me that the only reason you're even bothering to talk to most of us is because you want something, and a lot of people, myself definitely included, are not okay with that. Not at all.

Re: I'd like to do walkthroughs, but I struggle too much with presentation

To address the autism spectrum thing:First off, I have no diagnostic authority whatsoever, so let's be clear on that. But with that out of the way...yes, you tick some of the boxes for me.First up: you're detail-oriented. This is a hallmark of Asperger's Syndrome, among many others. Again, not a bad thing, it's just a thing. You like details; they're important to you. It might be more appropriate to say that you like structure. If you go back and reread some of the posts you've made, you'll see something of a pattern I've noticed. When things buck a trend, when they don't go the way you expect, you seem to get a bit flustered, and seem to feel the need to recalculate to a fairly extensive degree. This is not neurotypical behaviour. Oh, everyone has it a little from time to time, but for you, I'd argue that it's a defining characteristic more than it isn't. That's the first big point.Second, you like to plan for contingencies. Again, everyone does this to some extent. But the very existence of this topic sort of proves my point here. You are risk-averse enough that you would rather have a plan for everything than fly blind, as it were. And based on other threads you've made, I think this is because you don't fully trust your immediate emotional assessments of the world around you as it evolves. This is another trademark of high-functioning autism (and I do mean high-functioning here, since you are aware of it and are actively trying to take steps to help yourself). Your emotional connection to people, and the things they think and perceive, is just slightly out of sync. My biggest clue, actually, came from hearing you discuss the people around you and how they might or might not react if you voted, and went against Donald Trump. These are people you live with and are close to, but you were not only unsure of how they'd treat your decision to vote freely, but you were concerned more about that than you were about voting your conscience. Now, I'm not here to weaponize whatever actual choice you made at the time, regardless of what it was. I'm simply saying that you seem to seek more emotional guidance than a neurotypical person would, which is a common facet of high-functioning autism. Here are a few statements to analyze. I don't need answers, obviously, but see how many of these resonate with you. The more that do, the more likely it is that you are neurodivergent.1. I have very specific, sometimes niche interests, and like to enjoy them and/or discuss them at great length.2. I have sometimes been criticized for the lengths at which I will discuss things.3. I have sometimes been criticized for failing to read social cues, especially where they pertain to conversation.4. I have sometimes been characterized as aloof, cold, "overly rational" or unemotional.5. I sometimes find myself wondering why people react so emotionally, when a little common sense might solve a problem.6. I often find myself at a distance from people - the things they talk about, the things they enjoy, the groups they create - and I honestly do not fully understand why.7. I become uncomfortable if people attempt to touch me when I do not expect it. I generally do not appreciate it when people invade my personal space.8. I can become overwhelmed by too much stimulation (sound, touch, smell, even taste). This will either cause me to lash out or withdraw, depending on my temperament at the time.9. Even supposedly everyday environments can seem overwhelming to me sometimes.10. I am a private, shy or reserved person, who will feel uncomfortable if someone attempts to forcibly draw me out of my shell. Now, obviously, this isn't an absolutely definitive checklist, but if you find yourself agreeing with a lot of these, you're probably neurodivergent. For context, two or three of these apply to me, but I have never tested as being on the spectrum; most do not apply to me at all, and those which do are not definitive of my overall life experience. And to the guide? Bring it on, warts and all. I don't care how it looks. Toss it to me whenever you're ready. Maybe host a dropbox link or something, especially if it's longer than my Manamon walkthrough.

Please check out the Manamon 2 post-game guide in the articles room. It clarifies a lot of what you can do.That boulder in the catacombs will never move again, and doesn't need to. You moved it on your first trip through there, and now it will let you get anywhere you need to go.

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

Auto item gives an ability which will cure status effects automatically as long as you have the appropriate status-healing item in your pack, I believe. Bayowoof can get this ability naturally, I think. I'm not sure if anything else can.My question is: what does auto item and the thing in Ogma's hideout have to do with one another?

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

What I would have done is put different move tutors in different cities. Maybe a total of four of them.Maybe the first is in Vermacaw, post power plant. Available moves would be something like Holy Water, Dark Gift, Protect, Wind Force, Bubble Burst, Parasite Bite and Speed Kick. Nothing too overpowered. Then move up from there. And not every manamon would get every one of those moves.Of course, this would take some time to set up, but it would definitely improve the experience immensely. Aaron spoke once of maybe having a single move tutor that allowed for some manamon to learn some moves, but it hasn't happened yet. I don't think the other issues on the table are fixed yet either.

Re: I'd like to do walkthroughs, but I struggle too much with presentation

A few observations and hopefully helpful pieces for you.I think you being on the autism spectrum is at least a small part of this. You probably care about smaller details more than your average player will. This is absolutely not a bad thing. It's just objective fact, so please don't take it as a criticism. The trick is going to be in hitting the sweet spot between the way you would want a walkthrough done, vs. how you believe others would want a walkthrough done.To that end, I think the level of description should be commensurate with the difficulty and/or the complexity. If you spent five minutes explaining the layout of a set of corridors, and you only actually navigate through them for a minute and twenty seconds, that might be overkill. There's no exact formula to this though.Generally, in my experience, walkthroughs can be of all types. Some are quick and dirty. Others are so exhaustive that no stone remains unturned. I personally tend more toward the latter, but not all the way. My manamon guide is an example of this. I explain almost everything...sort of. I don't tell you exact stats, but I give impressions and outlines of virtually anything you might care about except, like, the various coin-making games in the rocket hideout/casino place.I would love to see your TechnoShock walkthrough, by the way.

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

Gubbulline would be decent if it got moves that were better than Takedown and...what, Toxic Tail? Giving it Earthquake might help, for instance. Or Scourge Tail. Or half a hundred other moves that would boost its coverage. It feels like another version of the Rescumo line. Bad defenses and precious little else. I think Gubbulline's attack is serviceable though, at least, and its HP isn't total garbage like Rescumo's is.

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

Online is busted. I thought we established that. lolMartiagle also gets Hone Blades, which jacks its attack into realms poor Colavaird can only dream of. It's Colavaird with a v, not a b, by the way.Fury Power is a neat move, and sometimes the defense-lowering thing really will not matter. It definitely has its place. Actually, Ninjarkon with Fury Power+Vengeance Strike+Hone Blades gets freakishly dangerous once it's set up.

Re: Manamon 2: Impressions Thread

Colavaird is faster than Martiagle, but Martiagle has higher attack and gets Hone Blades, plus Obscure and Sandy Wind if you're into that. Also, Colavaird's "coverage" comes from Fury Power, which kind of tanks its already low defenses. It's a strong move, true, and it will affect steel, ice and stone types, but you pay the price for it. By contrast, Martiagle's coverage comes from Berserk Branch and, secondarily, Speed Kick (I think?). Berserk Branch covers earth, stone and water types. Martiagle gets Fly, so it doesn't have to sacrifice its HP to do huge damage. It doesn't get Dive Bomb, which sucks, but that also means you can shove Rubber Gloves on it and give an electric type a bit of a hard day.So no, I don't think either of these manamon is head and shoulders above the other.
