Re: Audio editing softwares for windows

I tried Reaper, but it was kinda confusing for me. It was looong ago though. And I heard you need a bit to make it accessible. May be that's part of why it's so confusing. I just wanna mess around with audio stuff and see how I can adjust it and such. Audacity and Goldwave have been what I'm familiar with for quite a while. I just look for anything else I can try so I have enough options in case one or both programs don't work with whatever certain situations where advance editing is required. And another question guys, I may not be able to go to the studio all the time. If possible, I'd love to be able to record anywhere even in a room with loud ambience. I don't have much space to buy big ass microphone with bulky speakers. I prefer it USB with as much noise cancelling as possible so I can record on the go. It doesn't have to filter every bit of the noise. I know that kinda mic is nearly impossible to find if there's any at all. But at least, if it cancels much of the major background so my voice is heard clear enough, that gotta do.

2019-11-21 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : mata via Audiogames-reflector

Re: What is the Coolest Experience You've Ever Had

The coolest? I have too many of that in my life. Everything's a shade of memory, every bit worth keeping for me. Well not every bit but still. But to name one:When my student/best friend saw my true color:Her name is Kath, but I call her cat so it goes along with how she calls me dog. I had to be her personal English tutor in uni because she couldn't find any volunteer to help her. And since we were both blind and I was pretty much the only one in the disabled dorm zone who knew English (I still suck now), she came to me for help. Most of the teaching went with me trying to teach her, her taking ages to get it right, me yelling at her in a friendly remark to "freaking remember already, you puny". She was a slow learner. She'd do one question in her homework right but got the next completely wrong when it used the same method as the first. She was indeed puny though. She was quite an undaring type. She didn't dare running because she was afraid she'd crash into things. She was uncomfortable when someone was being harsh to her, something I didn't realize until it was almost too late. Let's just say her personality was nearly a complete opposite of mine, when I was loud and blunt with no intention to harm anyone. But of course what I did back then harmed her, and she didn't give a word. While I myself thought playful yelling like that would lighten the mood of the teaching rather than making myself sound like a serious pro, little did I know it made her afraid of me. She never said, never did anything as a signal. She just thought someone like me couldn't be that soft. (She got my yelling completely wrong too. I didn't yell at her in insulting cursing way or anything of that sort. She already had the impression of me being a nerdy know it all student who wouldn't look down at her just because I was good (which I had no idea where she got it from since I was none of that)). I never, ever had an intention to press her to "freaking get it" as I said. But she took it that way and pressured herself when she didn't live up to my expectation, something I still consider a grave mistake in my life. (I didn't expect for her to be good. I just wanted to help her pass midterm and final already and she just kept messing up).One day in the third semester of our first year, we enrolled in the same class, fundamental Buddhism. Our senior student, Ta, tutored her and I was there to listen, not because I wanted the knowledge. I had nothing to do and was bored so I guessed I'd join in. I had no idea it could lead to something big in my memory. Ta knew Kath before she came to uni, so she intentionally tutored her and remarked whatever she wanted to "teach" her, which in turn made Kath very depressed. This student/friend of mine was a softy, sheltered, protected, vulnerable to pretty much anything in the world. Anything hard and harsh could easily depress her. My way of teaching was one, and her Buddhism tutor's pressure was one as well. She'd get to a certain point that said something she saw was Kath's weak spot, then she'd phrase and rephrase it just for the sake of depressing her. Then all of a sudden, Kath crashed. She had a really big outburst over what her tutor tried to pierce her heart over and over and over. I was there, still and silent. I didn't even know there was a big explosive volcano in her heart, not until all the lava came flowing at me that was. In the end, Ta had to leave. But I couldn't. I just couldn't. I moved to the spot Ta used to be, beside Kath to be exact. I gave her a hug, let her cry on my shoulder and said, "If you wanna let it out, let it. I have all the time in my life for you."My roommate interrupted it by calling me for dinner. I had to leave. But her sobbing and crying just didn't leave my head. I couldn't eat and ended up leaving after taking only a spoonful. I went back to her room. She was still crying. I was there the whole evening, letting her cry to her heart's content. It was then that she told me how much she was afraid of me and never thought I'd have such a heart to be by her side and comfort her like that. It was by the same time that I realized how much my loud personality could be taken seriously wrong. I ended up staying with her the whole night, telling her to wake me up anytime if she wanted to talk. We've been really close friends ever since that time. She supported me hugely in my darkest time of life. We'd go out of our ways to help each other and extend it to help others as much as we could. She's not soft and innocent to the world as much anymore due to some hardship, but she's still someone I always feel like protecting. We laugh at the joke she once was offended. I still call her puny, but only for us to smile together. She calls me dog too, playing with tone change in my nickname (Mars). It's been four years already, almost five even, and we sometimes reflect on the moment back then before stuff tune us to the

Re: A game of heart and art

Alright, this is gonna be quite a long comment, given how long the story was:@dark:All I have to say is, this is one hell of an incredible lighthearted fairy tale, connected in a way I myself could never imagine at first glance. Here's the comment, written story after story just so you can see how I struggled to connect the pieces:The first:Oh god dark, I love how you made the character try to define "banging" and "female" at the beginning of the first story. It's interesting. There's also something that, again, reminds me of female expectation in most of the society. You sure like this kinda stuff huh. And the way you play with "noble, un-noble" is something that got me smiling too. Nice one there. But you know what's the best? You got me nailed right at the last few paragraphs. You demonstrated quite a strong point of when people are pushed over the edge because of fear and just give up everything for the sake of survival. It's something I personally don't like, but it does happen. And the ending...oh my god the ending! While I expected something like that, I didn't expect to see only a mere gesture from a small troll clarify the entire story. That's one assumption I got wrong there. It left me wonder though:Would william stop being afraid of trolls after all this? For the second story:Man, I like how you describe the sick feeling following pregnancy. You're not a female, but you nailed it quite well there. The concept of "the hulking" in this one sounds a bit weird though. Or may be I just didn't fully get it. It sounds kinda similar to the first one. I just have no idea why Alice wants to write to her father after it happened? It has to have something to do with the ungreatful marriage at the beginning of the story, but I can't figure out what. This one gives me the creep though, for real. I was reading til the part of the figure approaching and was like, "Omg wth's gonna happen now!?" Well, you got readers following you right there. Good writer's quality. For the third:By now, I think I'm starting to get what you meant in the second story. It somehow relates to this one, all symbolic, but symbolize differently. Never mind the question above. I think I got it. This one is...sick, not in a sense of blood and gore but the way it's tied to how much of a jerk Isaac is, something I see embedded deeply in the story but can't really explain. For the forth:Boom! So that's how it's connected. I'd been wondering if it'd move on and on and on to new characters, but aparrently no. It ended right where it started...by the same bridge too, answering my question of why the same town was refered to so many times when it wasn't connected, and if William would stop being afraid of trolls at all...This particular troll hides so, so many symbols in it, beneath the obvious "hulking" appearance. And here are some of what I could catch:In the first story, he comes to say there's no need to fear just because he looks like that.In the second story, he comes as a symbol to tell Alice there's nothing to fear or worry, not even her father or mother's insult, for the most hideous can be something far better. In the third, he comes, again, as a symbol, to tell Isaac how much of a jerk he was, which reflected how Isaac saw himself at the beginning of the story. But Isaac's definition of hulking has nothing to do with the troll. The troll, however, turns it upside down by saying in his action, "I don't have to be a brute just because I look like a brute". And there goes Rachel. And in the last one, he comes to sum up the first three and to say, "As long as you're not a jerk, no need to fear", though I bet he wouldn't like William's coward act when he tried to feed his goat to him (but probably backed down because William told him they'd taste like cabbage, probably amused instead).. Man, if only I could have that kind of troll near my house somewhere, I'd probably be the happiest person on earth, lol.I do have one question I couldn't find answer though, and it still leaves me puzzled. If the merchant's son means Alice's son, given how many years have passed, did Jacob change his job or something? What did Alice do after that? How did they become rich? There may be a connection or clue I miss somewhere. But so far, I still can't stop asking. All in all, you combined medieval England and fairy tale uniquely, and your concept of "beneath the hulking" seems similar to what I'd think of in my own novel too. But nothing impresses me as much as how you connected the story. It started full of puzzles and made me ask "what?" until the last chapter. Well done!If you're on your way to publishing, I have no doubt your piece will be picked. You can make something in a way readers just can't stop reading.@Everyone:I myself didn't even expect such good pieces when I first started the game. It was more of a brain squeezing moment to see if anyone could come up with something cool. But look at how many good stories have

Re: A game of heart and art

@Ironcross:Your submission had me race my mind all the way back to one of my novel scenes. It's pretty much similar to what you described in yours, though it had nothing to do with sexual assault. (It dealt with another kind of abuse). Man, from your two submissions, I can really say you have a knack for writing something otherworldly, dark or both. You always include either or all of those elements in your pieces, and that' what makes them unique. You see things below the surface, such quality good writers have. Then you make something cool out of it, add your unique elements to it and give it life. All those things can only be found in fine pieces readers say worth reading.Anyway, since we're at the topic of psychological trauma, sexual assault and nightclub life, it makes me kinda wonder if you've witnessed or at least had experience with something related to this yourself, or at least through someone you know. The description in your story is pretty much what a post traumatic stress disorder patient would describe, something I personally do feel and can relate to thanks to my past scars. The way you write gives me the impression that it must be based on something somewhere, and it has to be significant to you too. Heck, even the trauma feels real. You may say it's supposed to be surreal since it's intended that way. But even the best writers have hard time drawing feelings to narrate something they've never felt. Only those who once felt it or something similar to it don't struggle to bring it to light. You seem to have one heck of an interesting life as far as I know. I bet you can go even way, way deeper if need be.

Re: A game of heart and art

@dark: Hey, that''s something I have never thought of before, not until you pointed out that is. I'm kinda use to novel length stuff since I write novels for the most part, but true that about shortstories, or else there wouldn't be billions of creepypastas out there. On to Moaddye's comment:Hey, I didn't expect to see anyone take the prompt and turn it into this without straying far from the surface of the prompt! This is creative. And of course, as with good stories in general, yours is full of puzzles for readers as well. Whether you make it clear or prefer to leave it that way, it depends on how much of the story you want to reveal. But should you do, I can see this being focused on:When did his brother die? It had to be before his mom since she already knew he was made. Or may be he just didn't die at all. He was born and twisted. His existence was only a mere impersonation of someone his family didn't want to count has part of, or even as human. How close with his brother the main character is? It has to be srrained being with a mindless machine, does it?And, if the way he was made is the case...when and why did that happen? There are lots of things to ask in such a short but well narrated paragraph. You're great man. Your usual English on the forum surprised me with this piece. It may be because you had a chance to focus and think things through, which is way different from when you pop on just to post something quick. It's brilliant.

Re: Brain or mind, let them shine: a challenge of creativity

Actually yar, I had a go at it again (for the third time that is) and saw what I missed about Stockton's health condition. I probably forgot it by the time I wrote the comment or something. There's indeed no indication of emotional connection between Kelso and her subordinate. From how I see it, and from how you made the point clear, it wasn't supposed to be deep, because, of course, it wasn't deep. But there's something in this which I think is one of the strong points of the story. if the man verses woman head role is really the case, it's really a clear example of how females are viewed in little regard compared to men, as the little man subconsciously projected his leader to be a "sir" when he in fact was dealing with a mam, a bitchy one even, and admittedly a kind of bitch we don't want much in our current society. If you were to write a plot or an entire novel out of this, I'm more than certain there'll be billions of subplots in there, and more than 60% of it would involve bringing Kelso sense of superiority an entitlement to light, to combine with her shallow view and complete disregard of art. Her character, though flat, is pretty suitable for this kind of story. As someone once said to me, "The rich do feel, but the rich+the bitch don't". It was a joke we made way back in uni, and I really didn't give it much thought, until I read your story that was. Heck, I can see a whole story growing from this piece alone. It's bloody epic.

Re: Brain or mind, let them shine: a challenge of creativity

Ha, looks like some people want to move on to the second round already. Well then, before we do that.@Redfox: Hey, you did point out something me as reader didn't even think of before. Reading your scene again makes me see that point clearer. It's actually not something unrelated. It's a freaking symbol I myself failed to see. Nicely done! Symbolic meanings can be hard to detect sometimes, especially when it's a scene without any other obvious connection to the rest of the story. See, we learn from each other this time.Dark's comment:"Am I seriously reading a creepypasta?"I swear I took very long while to read this one, as the scene itself is both good and deep, possibly obviously without any unclear shade to comment about. And I didn't joke. It really could be a crazy good creepypasta if you submit it there. Your ability to bring emotions to combine with imagery is beyond fearful among writers, and within the scene itself, something I read a while back rang true in my head each line I read:"Your true villain isn't a mad scientist. At least that guy is upfront about his intention. But a manager who forces things to sell out...it's not just an alarm, but a battlecry for you."(Rephrased from an article about INFP personality I can't remember which one).Of course, Kelso is a bitch...well, was.Your story combines this element with horror taste, and you did it perfectly too. You didn't just draw surface meaning of "Drawing". You made it way, way deeper. To be honest, these lines were from my latest novel plot draft. I didn't expect anyone to turn it into something new and whole like this. I'm impressed, very impressed, in fact. Now now, here's something you as writer and readers can think about. As I always said in each of the previous comment, unless you don't intend to make it a mystery, it's completely optional. Why does the little man keep confusing Kelso's gender? Does it have something to do with her appearance? How is the relationship between her and that guy? (Don't focus on especially the last one if you don't intend to focus on that man). Her father absolutely contributed to why Kelso is like this. He probably hated creative types as much to infuse his daughter the same believe. Or at least, if not so, Kelso was inspired by how he worked, and of course her view about business and market was either from him or inspired by him. Now, in the final paragraph, there's a very deep hidden meaning in it. Kelso's final moment comes brutal and fast, and she has a mere second to realize this. It was made obvious that Stockton didn't volunteer or even want to be test subject, but what health problem or what kind of medical care would he need to end up like this? Then again, this one is also optional if you intend for it to remain a mystery. You know, no one gives a dam about why he ends up there. He just fell for it and was taken. that's the main point. This is one of the hardest submission for me to comment on. You did it epically, and there's nothing off I can think about. The only few things I can think of are just questions as said above. And most, or even all of them aren't necessary. Keep up man. You got this good.Do you guys still want to stick and see more of round 1 or should we move on to round 2? Redfox seems to be thrilled already.:)

Re: Brain or mind, let them shine: a challenge of creativity

@ironcross, as much of an energy person as I am, I can never imagine you bringing the concept that deep to the floor. It left me confused at first, but after that it was kinda revealed, though still somewhat hard to grasp given the warped environment of the scene. Some writers intentionally add puzzle to the scene to thrill readers, or at least give them something to think about. If you didn't explain it in the previous post (which I tried to picture in my head to death), this could be a great example of that. Now now, on to Redfox's comment:Holy crap man, I didn't expect anything that heartbreaking in just one paragraph. This proves much that length never matters, as long as the content is well written, well thought out. And this is something that hides hidden questions and meaning too. However, the same thing has some holes in it that needs filling as well, and here's why.Mentioning sword as writer's block is somewhat...off, as the scene itself focuses on drawing, unless that is meant to tell readers what he did before he was stabbed. What does writer's block have to do with his final painting? Is it related to the reason why he's being stabbed? What did he come to do in that castle before he was stabbed? (This one you don't need to think about much if there's a scene explaining it before that)."What he drew is not fully remembered", this part is somewhat confusing. Remembered by who? By him or by the crowd in there? There's already a part that indicates the audiance and the painting, so there's that. But this remembered part is what I can't really tell who you meant to focus. The rest of the scene is pretty much what would be there to leave readers to question. I have to say this is another great scene to make a shortstory or even a novel out of. Imagine explaining the relationship between him and the assassin, and the reason why she killed him. Why did she have to suicide after? There's more than just this scene to tell the tale.Big thumbs up for you! You use your inspiration in a very creative way. If Jayd reads yours, I bet he'd be impressed  as well. He may have done that, who knows.Still up for more. Anyone wanna stimulate?

Re: Brain or mind, let them shine: a challenge of creativity

@Jayd:The Charine part is exactly why I say is very optional. It's there for readers to imagine from how you made it in the scene. I just put it there to say that you can either make it obvious or leave it for speculation. Either way works, and you choose the first, which I myself personally like as it adds to the feel of the story. As to colors, I myself can imagine those, may be a bit hard with colors since I myself can't see at all since birth, but still doesn't mean I can't imagine. The wenberries part was there, but the explanation about him falling down the mountain isn't, unless I missed some part. You said art saves him, follow by art is what ends his life. There's a little gap in between which, if you don't answer, leaves reader puzzled as well. This mean further imagine depends on how one take it.@Brad:You somewhat contradict what you said in your latest post with how you narrated your story. I'm not gonna say I'm right or you're right. Other readers can see it differently. But for me personally, it's more of a narration. One point is correct, however, that you want to focus on the character. But the emotion part isn't yet clearly brought to life. I still say it's good though, not for novel but for shortstory.:)

Re: Brain or mind, let them shine: a challenge of creativity

Alright then, @brad:This is a simple yet emotional scene that, though may not be much for novel, is very good for shortstory. Since shortstories focus on keeping things short within the range of the story and the mumber of pages, keeping it contained is key. However...You can make it somewhat more emotional than just "he remembers..."Let's see if I can come up with something of mine to give you an example of how:"As Steven put raisor to flesh, a flash of memory pops up in his head, sudden and painful, way more painful than the cut of red on him. A face, embraced by and drawn from deep within the slower and slower pulse in his heart, such happiness like cool water in heat, now appears to be a sword, yet its target isn't his flesh...Of course you can come with your own and don't have to make it long like mine. I just made it long because I'm more of a novelist and am use to detailed narration. There're plenty of ideas out there. Your scene is brilliant, bbut it sure can always have more.

Alright then, I'm gonna go with those who don't mind public comments first. If any of the rest of you have different opinion of where I should comment, feel free to tell me. Those who want private comment, I'll pm you instead.@Jayd:I have to admit, your scene is deep and sad within its own. Your atempt to bring imagery in to combine with emotions is far beyond good. You have quite a potential to be a great writer. This is the hard one for me to look for something off in it, since the whole thing is well emotionalized, well described. It even gives reader further speculation of what the character actually did that brought him to that final point. To say it is something without flaws is more than correct. However, there are things that may enhance the details of the scene itself. These are not necessary at all. It's just there to make stuff a bit clearer for readers:Does the end of his life have something to do with Sharine? Is he away from Charine because he has to be far from her, or are they separated by any other means? (This is very much unnecessary if you want to leave it for readers to speculate). What does wenberries have to do with his final moment, his art and his relationship with Charine? How is blue related to red? (This blue and red thing really, really makes my imagination spin, like there's something hidden behind it).So far, you're awesome at creating a whole scene out of it. Heck, you can even write a shortstory or even a novel out of this scene alone.@Ironcross32:I remember you saying a while back that you believe in the energy, the existece and the depth of what contains in the multiverses, far beyond the universe. Your writing proves that believe. Besides the otherworldly feeling it gives, it's tied to your inner self, what you have and are ready to let lose. Impressive is little for me to describe those two...no, three scenes, in your entire writing.I admit though, it took me a bit to discover how you tied "drawing" to the form of art at the near end of the story. It's impressive too that you came up with the whole ancestor thing and even have a language for it. You changed the perspective, the narration of "him" to "I" in an interesting way, which makes your writing unique and deep There are billions of speculations and questions in it. However, because of that too that makes something unclear. At first, he was dying. Then he became...no, in what form exactly was he? Would it be a form of energy he used to show, or in this case, draw, "us" that recollection? Is he part of the domain? What exactly does he have to do with it? Why were "we" there in the first place. It sounds to me like "we" were waiting for him to die, and then "we" would take him to "our" domain. But then further reading gives me questions. It wasn't that. Then what was it?These aren't only questions for the writer himself, but questions for readers as well, provided you see something hidden in this story and have your own way to connect it. It's deep, very deep, and there seems to be a lot of hidden meanings and unrevealed details in it. Ironcross, you are absolutely good at bringing out emotions without having to tie it much to physical details. There's still one more person I haven't yet commented. I'm waiting for your answer whether I should comment here or privately to you. And for those who wish to join in this brain stimulation, feel free. It's still up as long as you guys keep submiting. I just wanna see what people can make out of these few sentences of mind. It's been what art students like me cherish, just so we can keep our stimulation going. It's never an assignment, because it's purely your choice whether to do it or not. Did I tell you to? No. So please, keep this topic for those who feel like doing it, if you have nothing to say or do to it yourself. And @others: for the sake of privacy, do you guys think I should pm you my comments or just post them here? Brain or mind, let them shine: a challenge of creativity

HeyaHaven't seen many lighthearted topics around here for quite a while now, so guess I'm gonna make one. It's actually not just lighthearted. It's a game that may get your brain and your mind working. It's a game of art and heart, of sense and soul!Let me tell you a bit about how this game came to life. In my university, it's normal for literature students to challenge their friends' creativity, especially among artsy type like me. One game we would play is that someone would come up with a random line, like "a phone rings and he runs out of the house, panting all the way." Then the others have to come up with something to narrate, emotionalize or do whatever to make it deeper. You can't do anything irelevant to said line, or else you lose by default.Someone on a mud mentioned something about creativity, and that sparked this idea in my mind. The goal of this game isn't to find the most creative person on the forum or anything. It's to stimulate your brain, to let you envision and imagine what you may or may not think, see or even feel, to reach out to those that may not even be there or known to you, create something out of it and put it into more than just a passage of description. The rules are as follows:- I'll give you a passage.- You read it and get your heart and brain working. Imagine, envision, feel, think, whatever you can do with that passage. Once you manage to come up with something, whether it's a narration of that scene in your own writing, a poem, a revised version of how the original passage is described, something emotional...the choice is endless. As long as it's relevant to said passage and there's more than just some simple and crude words put together, you're among the winners. If you come up with something irrelevant, spam or shitpost, you lose this round by default.- For those who pass the requirement in the previous rule, I'll give you a personal comment about your submission so you can have something to squeeze your brain juice and enhance your creativity. We both learn and share. That's what the goal of the game is.Keep in mind that there's no winner. Everyone wins as long as you don't fall from any of the requirements. The passage for this round is:"Drawing became something very deep for him, and his last wish was to draw something out of his own memory."I wish those of you who feel like stimulating your creative juice good luck. I'm waiting to see everything you come up with. One last note: I'm not a professional writer or anything. I'm just a literature graduate who seeks to learn as much as you.

2019-08-08 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : mata via Audiogames-reflector

Re: What is the strangest or scariest thing that has happened to you

Strangest, scarriest? I have both. The strangest thing is actually not a single story but the whole experience with my body and anesthesia, that thing they give/inject before they do small surgery on you, however it's spelled. It's both strange and scary, but still not the scariest. (The scarriest would be the antidepressant induced seizure that sent me to the er, but I'm not gonna talk about that. I'll talk about something else which is as scary instead.)I had two body operations that required anesthesia. The first one was when I had to have my teeth, by that time two of them, one of which grew up very wrongly, removed. Thing was they couldn't remove it normally because it didn't turn itself face out like normal teeth, but rather its side. So they had to use that edgy thing I don't know what it's called to chip at the tooth to remove it bit by bit. They injected 4 syringes of anesthesia in me and started the operation. However, its affect wore off in the middle of the operation right by the time they crazily chipped that tooth. It was so painful my _expression_ changed. I didn't scream though, but they noticed my sign and injected 4 more. Luckily, it didn't wear off again and the second tooth after that was easy to be removed. The second was when I had small eye infection and they had to do a surgery to crack open the puss filled part of my eyelit. They forgot to give me the anesthesia, just rubbed some alcohol and started doing it. I didn't expect that at all. I thought they'd do something before they started so I didn't ask. Then, they started cutting into my eyelit. Being a natural endurer, I thought that may be that was what they intended to do and didn't mean to give me anesthesia in the first place, so I endured. But the pain was too strong I just couldn't help anymore. I ended up letting out a grunt, and that was when they realized they forgot to use anesthesia.I don't know why, but whenever I have to have something related to anesthesia, it never goes well for me. Something weird or unexpected always happens. But the most frightening thing (besides my seizure) was a super weird dream back when I was 6. There was a show back then that I kinda liked and one character just died of kidney failure a night before this happened, so I learnt about kidney failure from there. But I didn't have the slightest bit of idea about body donation. I didn't even know it was a thing until much later in life. I couldn't explain how I managed to make it up in my dream.I was in a gathering where people came with the dying or the dead to donate bodies or organs, something like that, and I strayed away from the gathering because I was bored and I wasn't there to donate anything. I didn't know why I was there to begin with. Then, in the sandy clearing at the back of the gathering place, similar to the clearing at the back of my dead cousin's abandon house, I came face to face with a lone crib with a baby boy thrashing and tossing wildly inside, with a man standing watch. I asked him what happened, to which he replied, "the baby is dying of kidney failure". I was frozen in place, couldn't move, and was forced to watch the baby writhes in agony until he died and was taken away from the crib, and I woke up.That dream haunted me until years after. It still haunts me now sometimes.

It happens to me that I need to apply for a job and I feel like I still suck at using office, especially power point or even excel which I once was trained but now forget due to the lack of practice and usage. For those well versed at using office can you recommend something good so I can better myself as much as I can for whatever job I may have to use it for? I don't know how much we blinds can use it. I just wanna try whatever I can. And, does it mean I suck for having to have a sighted check my page layout everytime I write someting in ms word and need to submit it somewhere because I'm not sure if I arrange the page layout and everything right? Is there a way to do it so I depend on sighted assistance less when it comes to that?Thank you.

We Lanna people have this thing with elders who come up with scarry ghost stuff to prevent children from stepping over dust holes in a wooden house with raised floor, or prevent children from playing in the dark or go out of bed when they're suppose to sleep. My grandma had a ghost named "presentor" (the name is translated) under her bed. It's not a myth, but rather something grandma came up with to urge me to quickly climb on the bed and don't mess with the things under the bed because it's really dusty in there. The name presentor was gotten from when she watched a tv show or something and there was a part that said "*** presents, the name of the show". She wasn't good at speaking standard central Thai at all, but had enough knowledge to make fun of it by taking a word from the language and made it her ghost's name. She even came up with a super weird story about how it came to be under her bed in the first place. The story was helarious. I stopped being scared of it when she wanted me to crawl under the bed to get leaves she stored in there for her. I was 9 at that time.

Re: Hilariously misspelled words you've seen.

I actually did something pretty lol in Thai. So there's the word "khui" which is talk, then if you forget the u part it's pronounced like "khoi" which is how we pronounce "dick" in our Lanna tribal dialect. I once tried to type I was talking with my dad" in the message box to someone on facebook, and ended up as "I was dicking with my dad". If the person was from central Thailand or something I wouldn't feel shit, but the person was from the same tribe as me so she knew. The actual word for dick is "khwoi" though. That's the spelling that's closest to the actual pronunciation I can come up with. But in our dialect we don't have the "wo" sound so we omit w and say just "khoi".In Isan dialect, they don't have the "wa" sound. There's the word "Khwai" which means buffalo. But when they say it, they say it as "kwoi". Only those not well versed at central dialect can't say it right. Those adept at central Thai pronunciation don't make such mistake.

The feeling when you survive depression is epic. It's like you get a whole new life or something. But it takes a lot, and I really mean a lot, to get there. Speaking for a depression survivor who almost took my own life myself. And, second everyon'es post here. I unfortunately have to admit  I need to bypass disallowance of game buying/having and doing anything with my own money due to, not financial problems but family stuff. Even now as I have my own bank account, the limit in Thailand makes me unable to use my bank account to buy anything since I don't have credit card to work with paypal and it's a requirement here.I sincerely apologize for having to use cracks and stuff because of said reasons. I know it's not a good thing and wish I didn't have to do it. Whenever possible, however, I wish to support anyone who work to their bones to create and release something for people to enjoy. Being a writer wannabe and a musician myself, creativity is not easy to come and not cheap to be paid. It's a soul experience, a commitment that deserves anything but cheap penny. I'd like to see you keep up and see more ideas being poured into games, books, arts, songs, whatever, and would like to thank those who've already made something exist for themselves and people to enjoy. It's a goal of my life I wish to do one day, to be myself and be the self that brings happiness, hope and entertainment to anyone I can.

I'm reminded of a story I probably regret if I don't share. So my family like messing around and we come up with crazy jokes from time to time. My mom in particular likes jokingly bragging about her beauty and stuff for fun. That day, she was on with her usual bragging and said even her pussy smelled so good my dad fell in love with her.I was like alright you say that, I have one thing to counter your theory there. She said oh you know you were born out of my beautiful pussy, and if you're beautiful then it's because you're created by a person of beauty that's of course me.Then I said alright, so big sis was born green and I was born yellow. We were both born prematurely because of that stupid miscarriage you had. We were suffocated, nearly suffered anoxic brain injury when we were out of your womb. What do you think is the cause of why we had to suffocate so much? Isn't that because we had to hold our breath coming all the way out? How can your pussy smell so nice if we had to hold our breath like that?Of course she feebly tried to prove me wrong, but dad was too caught up in the joke that he ended up defending me instead. And of course, it can be concluded by both me and dad that mom had terrible pussy me and big sis literally held our breath all the way out.

Re: Exotic foods from around the world that you like or eat?

I'm all into exotic stuff as long as it's not fermented and rotten. My country, my region in particular has its way to make anything exotic. We have spiced baked rotten meat with crushed baked rice. We have the version of northern Larb with minced meat completely uncooked and drenched in blook. And the most epic, ost gut wrenching of all, we have Lu, a dish of raw, liquid blood completely uncooked and spiced, eaten with noodles. On a lessure level, we have insects, many kinds of insects. While I don't take all of the food listed above, I'm all into insects. Crickets, larvas, grasshoppers, subterranean ants, red ant eggs, bugs from buffalo poop...you name it.There're some food not native to my region that are considered exotic and gut wrenching as well. We have Koi made of raw catfish soaked in Larb paste and veggies. We have dancing shrimp which is a plate of live shrimps soaked in lemonade and spices, dancing all over while we catch them one by one, rip their heads off and devour them just like that. I'm not into raw meat, raw blood or anything rotten. Aside from insects, I pass all of what's listed. And, who says chicken pad thai is exotic? It's not at all.

I was in blind school for much less than anyone else around here, but was taught O years after in the summer tutoring course. The one that made me depend on cane was my braille translator/tutor. Then I started to like it when I discovered I could go anywhere without having to rely on a friend's arm. It was awesome, and I've had my sense of traveling alone from then on.

She always taught me the importance of cane, and 90% of the time, she was right. I almost got hit by a school car because I didn't have my cane with me and they didn't look carefully that I was blind. Luckily, the forested spot by the roadside I crashed into right after I got it saved my life that day.

Re: embarrassed to hold the white cane

I'm reminded somewhat of when I walk down the super crowded market pavement behind my university. I usually go there with my half friend, half student who's also blind, and I'm usually the one in front while she holds my elbow. It's funny how some people around here don't even care to notice my cane, until I actually slam it on their leg or foot or anything. Some speople rushed so fast they stumbled onto my cane and slam it on my stomach. They they say "sorry" and walk away. Sometimes I have to slam my cane so hard while walking just to let them know this is a blind walking and they should give me space already, before I accidentally whip them with this mighty weapon of doom.I don't really get the public image you guys speak of here, not to the full extent that is. Cane is a necessary utility for me. It helps me to both navigate the way and balance myself. If I have to choose between camera or other technology  than cane, I'd rather go with cane. I won't even choose guide dog because there's nothing that keeps my balance as good as cane.

Uh, didn't really expect my post to bring you guys off topic, sorry.Well, until now, what I'm thankful for after that experience is the strength it immensely gave me. It may not be pleasant, not at all to be honest, but the fact that I endured it sorta build a emotion shield in me. I may have been much weaker and much more of a loser in life without that. However, I never want this sorta thing to happen to anyone.I've always been a troubled child, being bullied, made fun of and rejected until later in my teen years. I'm a crazy sleeper in class, attentionless, dreamy, spent most of my school time writing bs novels instead of focusing. From high school onward, people started to be drawn toward me because of the abilities I possess that they don't have, and later become my friends.I don't deny my parents did break a few things, but I actually have better parents compared to most. They love each other, love the family and love me with hearts and souls. I'm very close to my dad. He was the one encouraging me to study traditional flute and lute. He took me to the blind center often so I could get new books to read. He built up passion to write in me. I was fortunate to find my passion much earlier than kids my age. In a sense, I may have to thank the trauma for leading me to something I was robbed from. Who knows, I would have lost in a crowd of friends or influenced heavily by people, unable to find my sense of self I hold so dear without that painful childhood experience.

Re: Self defence

The actually only time I really had to defend myself, and it was by sheer instinct, was the whole two years of torture when I was in kindergarten. The teacher was completely against me, and forced the whole class against me as well despite of the fact that there were two three people wanting to befriend me. She told the class to push me whenever I stand, bully me wherever I go. No other teacher wanted to bother with the problem between me and her so they kept silent. I simply had to crawl instead of walk, except when there was a moment that people form a line to receive milk, lnch or something. I was separated by brute force to sit and have milk/lunch away from others. I couldn't join activities because they just didn't leave me alone or talk to me nicely. The teacher did two good things, however, by sending me to the special teacher who took care of blind students in the school every morning so I could further my braille practice. this made me achieve best braille reader rank as the youngest of the time, at age 7. I'm not as good anymore now though. She also had me enter the school's mother's song contests both of the years I was with her, and I won every of those contests.Back to my story, everyday I'd go to school, stepped in the class waiting for my dad to leave. As soon as he went away, the first student who found me would push me down, beginning my crawling. The rest would make fun of me however they could, and the teacher just kept silent, or yelled at me, came up with issue of the day for me to endure. Being the smallest in the class back then, the only thing I could do was skitter away from them since I'd be beaten if the teacher found out I fought back. I did try to fight, a few times, but there were always more than one waiting to tackle me down. As soon as I started a fight, I would be brutally subdued. It's probably a moment full of shame for me. I had a problem of not daring to tell teacher I wanted to go to the bathroom since when I was at the blind school when I was 4. At 5, the never daring behavior became infused with fear. I wet my skirt and bedroll every single day, was beaten by the teacher and had my behavior reported to dad and mom, with her making it sound like it was my total fault of course. I went back home and was whipped by mom for not behaving good. The teacher shouted at me to never return to school once. I got home and cried pleading not to be taken there the next day, but mom didn't think it was anything serious so she took me to school. The teacher pretended to be nice and stuff. As soon as mom went out of sight, she yelled at me, asking why I came back when she told me to get the hell away from her face. Several things happened after. I was forced to swear to never wet my skirt again, which of course as a fearful child with that teacher controlling the class, I couldn't do as I was forced to swear. She then called my dad at one point later, had me talk to him and promised to behave good. I horribly failed again. Getting to the toilet wasn't as torturous as having to excuse myself in front of that teacher and her assistance who couldn't and never try to do anything to help me. Even though I went to the toilet, that teacher would be somewhere trying to make it as if I peed on myself when I didn't. She accused me of peeing on the bedroll til it dried once. I don't know what logic it was that she have that bedroll stained with urine could be dried completely within two hours of me lying on it. There was a time when I actually went to the toilet, and guess what I got? I got a whole huge bucket of water dumped on me, of course by that teacher since I could smell her perfume. I got back to class where everyone was sleeping. The teacher got there before me, and, of course, accused me of peeing on myself when it was the water she dumped that soaked me from head to toe.She once made a fuss about my walking style. She said I walked "with legs spread apart" so she wanted to "twist my behavior into place" as her words stated, so she tied my legs together and only released me when it was near the time dad would come to pick me up. She did it for a month or two, can't remember exactly how long, and I had to walk like that. I didn't know if my walking style was wrong in any way, or was bothersome to anyone. All I knew was that was all school had for me. The first sense of friendship I learned about was when a boy in class sneakily got to my bedroll and tried to start a conversation with me. He only had five minutes to do so before the teacher came back and caught him, then harshly told him not to befriend or do anything good to me ever again. I knew that boy's intention. He was among those who never did me harm, though he didn't dare helping when people bullied me.The result of the torment, as you may wonder, was my parents being told by, of course, the teacher, that there may be something mentally wrong with me and they should take me to the doctor. The doctor

My fight cases didn't happen because I needed to defend myself, but instead, I started a fight to defend my moral code from someone's fowl mouth. They were usually too surprised to fight back, and only managed to struggle after I landed a few blows already. The worst case was when a bitch in class started insulting me about my passion to become a writer, then proceeded to insult my mom. I leaped at her, grabbed her shirt collar and landed several punches on her face and head. Eight people tried separating me from her but didn't succeed. The only real advantage for a blind against a sighted is when you manage to grab someone. Key is, don't let them slip lose from your grasp, and don't give them chances to fight back until you manage to beat the shit out of them. This goes for both offense and defense as a blind. The more gap you give, the more they can struggle free. You also need to enter your rage mode and forget any care in the world to unleash your feral strength on them. You can deploy any marshall art strategies you learn in that mode if you manage to keep sane enough.

Re: describe where your from

Of course I wouldn't suppress my urge to chime in in a topic like this, lol. I'm not gonna go into much details about Thailand since you guys probably know enough from tourist advertisements and such, the stuff that makes Thailand look overly nice most of the time. Not saying my country is bad, but it's not as good as many imagine either.I stay in Chiang Mai to study at the moment, but my actual hometown is Lampang, a smaller town in the valley close to Chiang Mai. It's surrounded by three mountain, one of which is the source of Tal river, a small but long river in front of my house that's dry most of the time unless there's a heavy rain and the dam on the mountain breaks. There used to be sand flowing in with the water too but people got the sand from the dam on the mountain so there's no more sand now. Sand used to get in houses and field whenever there was a flood. If I dig the dirt in my house deep enough, as deep as my height probably, I can still see sand. Dad once dug up enough sand to build something without having to go buy it anywhere. I'm not sure how people dealt with sand iinflux in their fields back then. Most of those old enough to see that happen died. The rest are too old to provide useful information. I knew this from my grandma when she was still alive. My village is a pretty rural one, though not as rural as I wish it was. There're rice fields here and there, a temple where everyone gathers on Dhammasavana day which is the day Buddhists go to temples to cleanse their mind, pray and follow the 8 precepts, though it is actually a day where elders gather to gossip and have fun under religious masking as far as I can see.:pMy house is located on the road to the graveyard. Not many people use this road, unless it's cremation day. On that day, people would finish the last funeral gathering at the temple with monks chanting for the spirit and so on, then there'll be a band or a car with tape playing funeral songs, then the coffin carriage, and a super long rope everyone who wants to send that spirit to rest holds on to. The monk will be the first to drag the carriage, and the rope will be pulled. People will walk holding the rope from the temple to the graveyard, passing my house. I like funerals here, not because of the fact that someone dies but because I can really see how close my people are and how they enjoy helping others, especially the family of the dead. There was once a group conference on Teamtalk when a funeral march was passing by. People on tt literally fell in love with that. It's very spiritual. My hometown is renowned for horse carriages, elephant conservation center, countless temples, two beautiful waterfalls, one of which has hot mineral water spring. There're not many malls here, though of course there're more than when I was a kid. There was one mall back then, a pretty small mall. But now there're like 3-4 something malls, doesn't count the smaller ones, too small to be called malls by any sense. Our Signature food is a kind of crispy rice battered in special, sticky sugar, baked grains, and even dried shredded pork. The food is called Khao Tan. Not my favorite but makes perfect snack for anyone. I'm sure many of you'd like it too if you have a chance to try.

The smallpox blankets thingy was around 1600-1700 something. Killed more than 10 million natives on the land, enough for cheaters to set foot and destroy. If they didn't play dirty, I doubt they'd get natives under control as easy as now. See, parts of American lands were historically native americans', but then these English speakers came from nowhere and tried to brutally enforced something on them that was completely incompatible with their lives. I'm not native american myself, but I seriously adore them and their culture. I love their free spirits. I love their tribalism. I love how close to nature they try to be. These pieces of shit colonizers never have these things, and won't ever have. They think they're superior, but sorry, they're much less than inferior. Now they own the land that wasn't theirs, drive the real owners of the land who never even call themselves owners to some worse than shit places. I tell ya, as much land as you think you may own, it's only a hole under the dirt or a spec of ash in the wind when you die. So much for that.

Many to name from my region. We're one of the finest producers of skin chips. My hometown is renowned for our signature horse carriages. The region in a hole has many temples, as we've had deep history with Buddhism. There're even temples of other styles, like Burmese ones from dated back when my region was its own kingdom concored by Burmese a few hundred years ago. Besides that, our food is amazing. We have our kind of sausages, curries and more, many of which aren't well known in Thai cuisine for tourists but are just amazing. We have our musical instruments and dances. There's even an instrument nicknamed "the harp of heaven" because of its unique echoing sound whick makes it sound holy. It sounds like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87rkxXx0-gs

Learning it the informal way actually gets you started much easier than formal because formal usually consists of shitty rules, certain ways to say things, certain words to keep in mind etc etc. I bet those who don't pay attention to English taught in class learn how to say fuck before anything else.

Re: what languages do you want to know?

I die when it comes to pronunciation in Gaelic, any form of Gaelic. There was someone trying to teach me that once and I got stuck. It's probably as amusing as when I taught a friend Thai and he died trying to get the tones right.Tones are different in each Thai dialects. It changes acordding to meaning and _expression_. Different tone of the same word means differently, sometimes turning something good to something totally shitty. It's difficult to grasp especially among those who speak non-tonal languages. I seriously hate Thais who make fun of foreigners for mispronouncing words. It takes serious effort.Words aren't the same in different dialects, because each dialect is actually its actual language, but subdialects within a dialect share similar words and stuff. It may be hard for Paktai or Isan speakers to grasp Lanna because they're different main dialects, different languages to be precise, but Lanna speakers of Lampang, Chiang Rai origins can speak finely with those of Chiang Mai and Lamphoon origins because both subdialects are Lanna, even though some words may be used differently. Example given is a word to call guava in these sub dialects. Lampang speakers call it "ma-mun" (pronounced Ma "m-un, as in unfortunate, mun" when Phrae speakers call it "ma-kuay-kaew" with "kaew" of highest rising tone. Chiang Mai speakers call it "ma-kuay-kaa". In this example, Phrae and Chiang mai spakers, though being one province apart (Lampang is between these two provinces), call guava similarly. Lampang speakers, being next to both, however, call it differently. Those using the same main dialect can tell where people they talk to are from by identifying tones and words used.

The influence of standardized western style, I believe. Some musicians and music producers take that as a form of precise tuning and stick with it so much that they forget good music doesn't have to follow that standard. I still remember there was an arabic guy telling me that some western musicians he knew told him Arabic style songs were out of tune.Btw, the Hulusi used in Avalette city track is of G miner. I have one of the same key and it sounds exactly like that. Unless the seller of this Hulusi informed me wrong. I suck at west-based music theory so I may be wrong.

Somewhat, but not all. People who know words from other dialects have easier time understanding it because all dialects are linked in some way. There're similar words used in two dialects, but not the other two, or this word is used in a dialect but not the other three (Tai-based languages in Thailand has 4 major Dialects. Each dialect is a language of its own.)

My ethnic language is of Tai-kadai branch, Dai group, similar to Thai which is also from Tai-kadai branch but Tai group, both of southeastern Tai subgroup. It's more of a dialect which is not standard Thai most people know about. It's called Kham Mueng, in our native name, or as outsiders know it as "Lanna language". The subdialect of this language I speak is native to Lampang, my hometown, and a few other cities, which is not the standard Lanna dialect since the standard dialect is native to Chiang Mai and some cities nearby. Chiang Mai dialect is somewhat closer to standard Thai. My dialect is described as faster, rougher by those who try to learn it. Here's how it sounds.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBWn3fZakLk(For those who can't see, this is an advertisement for the blooming mountain flowers of the year in a mountain village renowned for tea plantation. I had a chance to perform in this festival 11-12 years ago with a Lanna traditional musical band I was part of at that time. Beautiful stuff, one of our famous attractions besides horse carriages, ceramic making, elephant conservation center and countless temples.)Here's how standard Lanna (Chiang Mai dialect) sounds:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlTWn1xltD8(For those who can't see, this is the advertisement for the northern style Songkran (called "Pi Mai Mueng) which is quite different from Central Thai style Songkran most tourists know of.)

He doesn't remember who I am though, because I was little when he was there, and I changed much of my identity. If he knows who I was when I was in the blind school back then, he probably remembers me. But that's not my intention. I'd better have that bestowed identity be forgotten since it's not my prefer identity.Glad to know there're some other people around. Re: How hard was it for you to learn english as a non english speaker.

Aside from school, the first person who actually taught me English was a 75 year old blind grandmother, who used to be a translator for Americans after world war 2, and was open for teaching at that time. At 7, I started learning. At 8, I was able to differ verbs and basic grammar which was far beyond people my age generally could do. At 9, after I understood comparative and superlative, her hearing suffered, her health deteriorated and she could no longer teach me. I relied on school for years after, but stood out as one of the skilled ones. The first English competition I entered was something about speech regarding my family, where I had to talk about what my parents do, who i lived with, you know, family stuff. I didn't get to be the actual competitor from my school, because there was someone better than me. But as a skilled blind who somehow stood out and actually did pretty good, I was to perform on stage before the provincial competition round. After that, I didn't have any English related event until I was 14.I was a pretty tribe attached and i was influenced by some conservative people that I loved and held on to my tribal language and culture to the core, so I pretty much disregarded English in spite of being kinda good at it. In my middle to high school, there were two subjects students could take to further their interest. I usually took music or language because I felt I was good at it and I liked these things. At 14, there was an English class I took and there was a test that students needed to group and sing West Life's song, "My Love" in front of the class. Despite of me skipping the test and lost my marks that time, I still got A. That song made me feel more attached to English, but it still didn't completely catch my interest. At 16, I selected English, Thai and social studies as my main focus for high school I was, no kidding, the only person in the class who could actually speak English. Whenever there were class events that involved English and meeting up with English people, teachers or exchange students or whoever, the class would push me to participate for them. Some teachers took special interest in me and tried to encourage me to better my English, something I still appreciate til today. I didn't even need effort to get good grades. It just came naturally for me. Events after events made me feel more comfortable using English. Then I started getting into games and muds. People who knew me back then knew I had skype but was too shy to do voice call and didn't feel like I could do well enough, so I lied about my microphone being broken and stuff. I broke my shyness when I accidentally called someone who ended up being in a relationship with and destroyed my innocence in love after.I still don't consider myself any good now, never to be honest. Without support, I probably wouldn't get as far as this. I always need rooms for improvement, and try to be better at it as much as I can. I do translation work from time to time, each time feeling like I do crap work and I'm not supposed to do it because I suck. English isn't hard imo. It's just...complicated and has too many things to be confused about as a non-native speaker.

I'd probably do that if I was little and got stuck in the same situation (I used to solve things by fighting back physically). But I don't think it would make him stop no matter how hard you try. In turn, he may want to bully her more, even though what you say may make him pout. He need professional help, sure and fast. If you can't get his family to do shit then go for solution 1 and 2, then inform teachers and even better, school counselors if the school has any.

Re: how to change personality

Well, on a bright note (I was being a jerk in the last post, sorry), while it may be hard to work on your attitude, correct the wrong and improve the right, as long as you're firm in your idea of making better of yourself, you can do it. It may not be a night worth and you can change anything, no. But one day, your improvement will pay its price. I can't really advice you how to, since I don't know you at all. But from how I see it from you in the past: find your enjoyment in doing things for others, improve your language barrier, ask rather than beg or demand, stop spamming, stop copying others' works and make it your own, learn whatever you can, be optimistic and don't look at people as your enemies or anything similar. It's good to fight back, but only when you do it in the boarder of reasons. It's not nice to spew bad words at others like you used to do.Other than that, I guess may not be so hard for you to figure out. Then again, take my words and think about it. You may dismiss some of what i say if it's really not true. As I said, I don't know you. I just looked at your behavior on the problem and advice whatever I can. Hope this gives you a clue.

Re: What does music mean to you?

As a flutist for twelve years, music has been one heck of a key part in my life. At first, a song was just...a song for me, with lovely melody and lyrics. This, of course, came from a ten year old's mind, still new to the depth of notes and emotions. After several years of being exposed to world genres, I've found many tastes in each. A genre by itself can express a lot of stories and plenty of feelings. A sad metal wouldn't be like a sad classic, an upbeat Dohori is never similar to Mahori. But they differently express the same. Music is not just about melody, lyrics and _expression_. Every note means something. There are always stuff hiding between each plays. Two musicians never use the same techniques on the same instrument for the same _expression_. Those famed by all are never famous because they're good in the same way.As for me, though some may say I'm good, I know I can only be good in my own style, because it's mine. Aside from basic techniques that tells how well a musician or a singer can play or sing, I never try to go out of my way to judge the difference in anyone's play. We all have our styles, our ways to embed what we have in our minds in songs we play, or even form different pictures in our mind when we listen to others' performance. If I say to someone, "you suck at flute", that surely doesn't mean the person doesn't have their own playstyle. It means they just need to be in more control of their own flute to be able to develop their obvious style.

I actually love some African style music, but what i hate is that Africans nowadays in some countries, Hausa in Nigeria for example, use autotune in like every single track they record. Some singers sing so fine, too fine to be autotuned. But they make it shit.

There's Chinese new year celebration in Thailand too. As my university is full of Chinese, both students and tourists, I'm probably bound to hear a lot of Chinese songs played on buses and everywhere else, lol.

Re: Music stiles from around the world.

The thing is Thai Khlui doesn't have detachable mouthpiece. The blowing hole is fixed at the very edge of the long pipe that's the body of the flute. The playstyle is similar to recorder. As long as you blow into the right hole, it makes sounds. The amount of air you blow in results in the outcome of the sound, soft and comforting, loud and pressing, fingering a tad less complicated than recorder. Because of how easy it is to play this kind of flute, I regret having not learnt different blowing techniques for different kinds of fluteAssault_freak, that music of yours is awesome. I think you may like this one too:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ar4XJtr9qio

The best bet is to subscribe to youtube channels I think. That's what I do actually. If you find good channels that upload world music, subscribe to that. I have more than 10 channels in my list now.Hm, not sure if I'll be able to play Quena since I started off with Thai Khlui which has fixed mouthpiece and am use to playing stuff with mouthpiece, but interesting nonetheless to try.

Andean and native american stuff are just awesome. I wish I had native american flute to practice those awesome songs myself. There's a guy called Eric Whollem. He has a channel called ericwhollem or something like that on youtube with a shit ton of world music in there. He has basically almost anything minority wise. As a world music fan, I can't help but spend months checking all of his videoes.People know I'm crazy. I have the entire hd space of my laptop filled to full, most of which are unsorted songs from all around the world. I'm not keeping them all though, just what I find cool for my liking, then i delete the rest. But I have songs torrenting in all the time. My hd space is never empty.

Re: Music stiles from around the world.

I collect songs from all over the world. I have anything from Ethnic songs from southeast, east and south Asia, a lot of native american songs, Andean, Latin/hispanic style, Middle east, Celtic, African and Australian ethnic, etc etc etc. This isn't even half of what I have.I listen to any type of music really, and prefer anything but loud stuff, loud rock, metal, techno, electronic beats and stuff. Though I do have some of those genres in my collection, melodic/lyrical stuff, especially folk are what I prefer. As to what kind of world music I like...this one is really hard to answer. Everything has a life of its own, and nothing is more beautiful than one another. If I'm to choose, I may choose Celtic, but then again, nothing iis precise. I love anything, everything.

Re: Does Anyone have Trouble Saying Certain Words

No, It's not a name. It's a word that was unfortunately given as my nickname. Thai people tend to have random nicknames such as beer, ice, cat, love, or some shit like that, even direction words or verbs sometimes. Imagine seriously hating the name cat and have to type k cat or whatever cat in muds everytime you see one. My former nickname isn't that, but still. I can't even stand words that sound similar.

Re: Does Anyone have Trouble Saying Certain Words

I can relate to this, definitely I can.I grew up with a really, really strong hatred toward my birth nickname, the one my parents gave me. In Thai culture, nicknames are important since first and last names tend to be long. I never felt comfortable with that given nickname. It took me my own sanity to force my parents to accept that I can't stand it. I'm now using a name I come up for myself, taking it strongly as my identity, something I whole heartedly give to myself. My hatred toward that stupid ass nickname is much to the point of either I can kill someone just to have them shut up (i never do, just feel like doing), or get the hell away from whoever say it and have severe emotional outburst, sometimes self harming, even trying to strangle myself once because of it. The worst part is I have to type it in nearly every mud or text game I play all the time. I try my best to ignore the feeling whenever I have to type it, but I know it never goes away. I have nightmares and frequent recurring thoughts about it even if I don't want to.My psychologist says that it's the symptom of ptsd, but doesn't really do anything besides telling me about some kind of safe lock technique where my thoughts are like something i can obscure and lock away in the safest part of my mind. To be honest, it works sometimes but only with my own thoughts. I don't know how well I can handle it if someone says that word right at my ear now. I don't wanna harm anyone, not even myself. I know it's stupid, but I can't stand it.

Re: has anyone noticed blind schools being sheltered areas?

@22From my perspective, it could be mainly support and luck that got your friend there. I'm speaking from a perspective of someone who's seen blinds from poorer family. Really, they usually end up either being massage therapists, selling lottos or making and selling trinkets or clothes or something like that.@21Man, I thought blind schools in US were better than that, seriously. What you said there was far worse than even the hell of my blind school. I wasn't there after a year of studying, but I kept in contact with those inside and worked as a representative for them sometimes. All I know was :- No phone, ever.- The library opens for only two hours on saturday and sunday. I was lucky enough that I knew the librarian, who was also a teacher, and could get her to open it for me sometimes when i visited the school.- The computer room closed after what time I can't remember, but pretty early. I'm glad they didn't have restrictions on what students can do with their computers.- English teaching there sucks ass. There's literally no one who can teach effectively. Hell, There's a guy who can, but the curriculum structure there just doesn't leave room for him. He knows going with what they have doesn't work, but they never change it and never allow him to change it also. Hell, I could have done even better. Thank goodness I wasn't really there. And the current headmaster of that school is a bitch. Once during a tutoring session, some group of people came to observe how we worked and stuff. She pulled me out of my chair, forced me to a computer and had me type "my name is , fowl-mouthed and irresponsible".And guess what, I did just for the sake of embarrassing her. I didn't expect a god dam headmaster would do that. Whether I was like what she tried to make me sound or not, it was her who ripped herself to shreds, not me. She's still a headmaster there despite that years have passed, much to my dislike.

Re: has anyone noticed blind schools being sheltered areas?

In some Thai blind schools, the concentration on education is lower for some reason compared to what most sighted have to learn. There're not many staffs actually skilled at anything to the point of being able to educate students to an effective level themselves. They have easy education for students who can't manage with sighted. Those who can are sent to study with sighted. (I was sent since I was 5, the youngest in their history). Most blinds end up being massage therapists, making and selling things, being in a blind music bands or staying home doing nothing. A lot of them deem education unimportant. Top jobs here are selling lotteries and massaging, and those are only two well known jobs for the blinds here.
