Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: My Family Finder results
Hi Rick, Cheri had already told me that it would be coming out soon. Your info confirms that.. And no, I'm not in the Azores DNA project, but my wife and her grandmother are. I'm waiting on the grandma's test (my kid's great-grandmother), who turned 88 the other day. I'm eagerly waiting for confirmation that the FF test was successful, as this is the second time that something was returned to the lab, and I'm not going to get many chances at doing this cycle, as each cycle involves taking a sample in Flores, sending the package to the US and waiting for the lab to say something, and if unsuccessful, they send me a new kit to Germany, where it starts all over. Barbara, There may also be a Jewish cemetery in Ponta Delgada. I'm sure if you do a google search you will find lots of info. My mother's doctor in Ponta Delgada (1950's and early 1960's) was Jewish, I don't know that much about him but his name was Dr Freidman and my mother spoke very well of him. [AZORES-Genealogy] Poss. new connection on the Pacheco Rezendes/Remigio line to Canada and Brasil
I wanted to share the latest on the Pacheco Rezendes (aka Pacheco Remigio and Romiza) family from Maia, Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel Isl. My cousin, Rita, and I have been working on various parts of this tree. My line left for Hawaii in 1882 while hers ended up in Fall River in the early 1900s. Earlier this year, we met a whole group that had a surname group on Facebook. They were East Coast Pacheco Remigios and some of their grandparents chose the Romiza surname. It's been exciting piecing together the trail. We don't actually connect until the late 1700s with Antonio Pacheco de Rezendes who married Anna de Jesus in 1797 in Maia. I descend from their daughter, Rosa de Medeiros Pacheco m. Jacintho Jose de Braga. They descend from the son Remigio Pacheco and his second wife Dorothea Maria Furtado. So the exciting news is my cousin was contacted by a woman in Canada. She is also a Pacheco Remigio descendent. Her ancestors went from Maia to Brasil. At some point there was a young wife died and her husband took their daughter back to Maia. From there it appears there was a later migration to the East Coast of the US and then finally to Canada (I am still sorting all that out). Right now, we have a gap in the research. She is only back to 1890 and my research stops around 1885 (then goes backwards). But I am sure we are related. All the Pacheco Remigio's in Maia descend from Remigio Pacheco. Anyway, I just wanted to share this exciting turn. I am fascinated at how the family has fanned out. What other countries might they be living in today? -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Jose Lima and Angelina Lima, Santa Maria, Azores, Bermuda
Hi, I keep running into your post. It makes me think. My cousins grandfather's name was Anthony Jose Lima, Lexington, MA. While researching for Mr Lima I've found he declares on his Naturalization papers and passport application he was from San Miguel, no town mentioned. But in 1949 he travelled to Santa Maria via Lisbon by air flight. I don't know why he made the long flight at his then age of 75. He died four years later in MA. His marriage docs declare his father Francisco Jose Lima and his mother Rita de Jesus. Maybe? Barbara On Tuesday, June 17, 2014 5:42:11 AM UTC-4, P. My Results Southern Europe 69% Scandinavia 15% British Isles 12% North Africa 5% My Dad's results Southern Europe 80% British Isles 8% Scandinavia 6% North Africa 5% Flemish derived surnames are more frequent on my mothers side I think that may account for the difference in the Scandinavia results comparing my father and I, I haven't tested my mother yet. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] manifest with lots of xxxxx s
Barbara, Each of the sets of check marks corresponds to a group of numbers above it. In the first set it is dated 9-1 1941, the second is stamped May 4 1938. This is the Immigration service going back to check the date of entry into the US when citizenship process begins. The ship Canopic sailed from San Miguel to Boston Feb 1905. I am familiar with Ellis Island manifests with an x that precedes the name of passenger, meaning passenger was held for medical reasons and name can again be found toward end- passengers detained.
