[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Machado Evangelho from Rio de Janeiro to Ribeirinha, Terceira in 1890

2015-10-03 Thread bsei2816
Hello Bob,

This record may be interest to
you
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-RIBEIRINHA-C-1890-1899/TER-AH-RIBEIRINHA-C-1890-1899_item1/P60.html

(starts bottom left)

It is an 1894 marriage which is 6 years after your great-grandfather's
birth, but it says it is to validate a previous marriage done in Rio de
Janeiro and that the couple had a dispensation for 3rd degree consanguinity.

It appears the same couple returned to Brazil as it appears to b them
listed as the parents in two baptisms:

Jeronymo: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QV39-H4SQ
Roberto: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QV39-4TFS

All of the information seems to match between the Ribeirinha marriage and
these two baptisms including parents names and grandparents names. The
ages are off. Antonio is 40 in 1894, 41 in 1897, and 42 in 1899. Maria do
Carmo is 36 in 1894, and 26 in both 1897 and 1899.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Help with translation please.

2015-10-03 Thread JR
Well, indirectly it helps. Florencia was one of his daughters. I bet
Antonia Pereira is also his daughter, so you may want to look for her
marriage. It has to be around 1732, give or take. At 18 years old, that
would be 1730 to 1733. It could provide a clue on where they married or if
they were from another village. Maybe look for more children and it might
state if they are from another village. Maybe Lagoa.

Antonia 19 August 1709
Antonia 28 Nov 1712 (maybe Antonia Pereira)
Florencia 1 May 1716
Isabel 11 Sept 1719

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Translation Help-Pedro Dutra Borges de Faria de Lacerda?

2015-10-03 Thread bsei2816
This handwriting is very difficult, but I think I can make out some parts.
I agree with what Shirley wrote, but I would lean more towards 70 years of
age. I cannot find where it says who he was married to as it seems to go
directly into his will. There is something about leaving something for his
soul then mentions a chapel (capela, 6th line from bottom of first page) of
?? for poor children (I think it says crianças pobres on next line). The
first line on the second page identifies the executor (testamenteiro) as
his son George Pedro (Dutra) Lacerda (I think Dutra was written
after-the-fact in the right margin). I also see the name Margarida on the
sixth line from the bottom but do not know where this person fits in.

Not much, but I hope it helps.

 indication of her married name.

Research shows that Herculano & Belle Lopes built the house at 230 Ivy
St, Hanford, CA and lived in it during the 1930's and beyond.

On my original birth certificate her maiden name is given as Velma
Cotta. It also indicates that she was born in California, no city or area
was specified. If Joe Hughes furnished this information it may be
 unreliable.

She and Joe Hughes were trying to become Hollywood actors. I cannot
find a divorce but they separated sometime around 1937-38 or so.

That sums up most of what I know about her.

John,
Thank you for searching.
I have very little information on Velma. Have no idea of who her relatives
are/were.I think Cotta was her maiden name. She was married & then
divorced in 1928. Then she married Joe Hughes in 1933. They
separated/divorced in 1937-1939?According to the 1930 & 1940 census
there were several Cotta families in the area - I have no way to know which
ones she may have been related to.

This handwriting is very difficult, but I think I can make out some parts. I
agree with what Shirley wrote, but I would lean more towards 70 years of age.
I cannot find where it says who he was married to as it seems to go directly
into his will. There is something about leaving something for his soul then
mentions a chapel (capela, 6th line from bottom of first page) of ?? for poor
children (I think it says crianças pobres on next line). The first line on the
second page identifies the executor (testamenteiro) as his son George Pedro
(Dutra) Lacerda (I think Dutra was written after-the-fact in the right margin).
I also see the name Margarida on the sixth line from the bottom but do not
know where this person fits in.

Not much, but I hope it helps.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Velma Cotta

2015-10-03 Thread Cheri Mello
Correct. At the 4th to distant level you have 3% or less of the DNA of your
common ancestor. No guarantee that ALL 4th cousins inherited that SAME 3%.
So siblings could have inherited a different 3% from that particular Manuel
and Maria.

Another reason why Dave asked for people to DNA test - to find a closer
relative to help solve his Velma Cotta problem. She was someone's sibling
or 1st or 2nd cousin. And descendants today have DNA from Velma's grands or
greats. And they could help solve Dave's mystery.

[AZORES-Genealogy] AncestryDNA

2015-10-03 Thread Nivea
Hi,

I transferred my Ancestry DNA test to FTDNA. I also sent a request to join
your project, I'd love to match with someone in the group. I was born in
Terceira as were the majority of my ancestors with the exception of my
paternal grandfathers line which came from Graciosa.

I'm wondering which product you recommend that I purchase & will it work
with the Ancestry DNA or will I have to do the DNA testing again.

I have been a member of this group for a while now & have learned quite a
bit... I don't participate because I'm actually new at genealogy but I
enjoy it & wish I had more time to devote to it.

Thank you!
Nivea

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] AncestryDNA

2015-10-03 Thread Cheri Mello
Nivea,

You tested your autosomal DNA with AncestryDNA. They only test for
autosomal and they use the Illumina v.3 chip.

Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) also uses the Illumina v.3 chip for their autosomal
DNA. They call that product Family Finder.

Since it's the same chip, the raw data is the same. FTDNA accepts transfers
from labs that use the Illumina v.3 chip. The transfer is free, but it's a
limited account. You see only 20 matches (partial names and no email
contact) and you do not get your ethnic breakdown (myOrigins). To unlock
everything FTDNA has to offer, you need to pay $39 or recruit 4 other
people to transfer over from AncestryDNA (they don't need to pay $39).

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo and Paiva in capelas

2015-10-03 Thread JR
With a name like Manuel da Luz, try looking in Fenais da Luz. They may have
lived in Capellas but born or baptised elsewhere.

I am trying to follow your line but having difficulty. Can you lay it out
in ancestor format?

1)- grandfather cc 2) grandmother

2 X 3 paternal greats
4 X 5 maternal greats
