It seems that the edits are coming from someone from our Club. All pictures are

There are probably close to 50-60 C boats at the Club.

Well, I have heard from the insurance company. I got an estimate for
a full repair of the bulkhead and mast collar and replacement of the
rig that is 1.5 times the agreed to hull value is so the insurance
company is writing us a check and walking away. They are not totaling
the boat and, right now, they are expecting us to dispose of the
hull. They are looking at salvage values for us. Torresen Marine has
expressed a mild interest in the engine (Universal M-25XPB with a
whopping 132 hours). We will remove the Andersen Self Tailing
Winches, the Adler Barbour Refrigeration System, the Raymarine ST60
instruments, the Autopilot and the new Garhauer Mainsheet traveler.
There are other smaller items that we will grab (cleats, line
stoppers) but that is the main list.

We are looking at a 1978 C 38 and a 1981 C Each has it's
selling points and each has it's own weaknesses. Please feel free to
provide advise on the selections. Our criteria has been: 35±3',
fresh water, C, a preference to Lake Michigan and within the payout
from the insurance company.

We have looked at closely at the 38'. We will look at the 32' in the
next couple of weeks.

We must have taken nearly 1/2 ton of ropes and loose gear off Corsair
already. I can't believe how much we have acquired in 21 years.

Anybody on the list interested in the engine or rest of the boat,
please let us know.

Re: Stus-List Autopilot ST4000+ issue

2017-08-08 Thread Mark Smith via CnC-List
I've had that happen several times until I figured out what was wrong.
If you're engaging it to "track", in other words, to steer to a
waypoint, you need to engage "track" immediately after setting your
chartplotter to "navigate to". If you set the chartplotter to "navigate
to" a waypoint, then later tell the autopilot to "track" to that
waypoint, it will immediately head for the previously plotted track,
then once it reaches the previously plotted track, it will steer to the
selected waypoint. Very disconcerting when you don't know what it's doing.

Re: Stus-List mast gate

2017-08-08 Thread john sandford via CnC-List
That’s strange, I ordered 2 last year and they both fit perfectly and work a
charm.

I got both the 2 piece, and the bifurcated. (As I dint know what would work
best for me)

I prefer the 2 piece, and have used it in 40knots reefing down.

Important is to not tighten the reef clew till halyard is tight, hence keep the
load of the slugs at the track.

Mine are screwed on with #10 ss RH.

Bill,

I installed a mast gate from Tom Luque at mastgate.com in 2013. At that time he
was making them of quite thin SS, for use in smaller boats, and it bent when I
put in a double reef on the main. So had a friend machine a beefier one from
aluminum and that has worked well. Tom was interested in the design, so I sent
him the design drawings and a picture:

Tom recently started fabricating them using my design and I think is making
them with a 3D printer - don’t know the material. I can send you the drawings I
made with all the dimensions, and that would be right for your boat as our
boats are identical - CC35 MkII.

Tom and I went back and forth a couple of times and talked on the phone.

We sailed short handed in the 15-20-25kt winds beating south from Annapolis
to St. Mary's during the race. At the tail end of the race we made a few
head sail changes and reef and un-reefed to adjust for conditions.

The little C 24 took 3rd in short handed, but could have also been 3rd in
Spin C or N.

It was a good night to have old sails I guess.

new engine rigging, sails, bulkhead, teak toe rails, rub rail, various
deck core/ rebed projects and crack fixes. The boat came out really
nice but, I had dumped about 8 or 9k into it and sold it for $4800 after
I got the viking 33, That boat was a similar story but, I paid $5k for
it and dumped about 25k into it and sold it for $18,900 with a similar
list of renovations including nav instruments, electrical wiring and all
new head and plumbing holding talk... blah, blah, blah. I don't really
complain because of the education in sailboat's inner workings and the
warm and fuzzy feeling of saving another old, plastic boat from the
scrap heap. Both of those boats, potentially, will have many more years
of life out sailing. Funny thing is that they were both bought bought
by new sailors who happened to be of the fairer sex, for whatever that
is worth...

but, a boat sitting holding 18 inches of water for god knows how long
and leaks, and blisters...OMG I'm getting nauseated thinking about
it... The hammer and thumb analogy is awesome Joel!!!
