I was about to mention that in my reply to Bill. The 8 serving one is right now 195 but regular price is 249. I'm assuming this is personal preference but since I'm coming to the party late, what is the difference between this opti grill vs the George formen. I cook for me and my 3 children so I'm going through this thread to see if I should even purchase one or a George formen. If the George formen cannot cook amounts to feed 4 people, will the opti grill do? I suppose that depends on how much my kids eat ey? Just for an example, could the opti grill or George formen do 8 burgers, if not what's the most I can cook at a time. Other things I make can the George formen or opti grill do 5 porkchops? Just a couple of examples. I'm just looking to see 1. What's the difference between these two products, why would one purchase one over the other. 2. [CnD] Mexican chicken and rice. Help>
Hi, Below I would like to make again. The reason why is because the last time I made it, the rice came out hard and it took longer to cook vs what it said below. I actually have instant rice now so here is my question. When cooking it, via stove or oven should the rice be cooked even though the recipe states to place uncooked rice. I ask as Im assuming the rice will burn? Should I cook the rice first then just poor it over the chicken broth and the chicken? 4 small boneless skinless chicken breasts (1 lb.) 3/4 cup TACO BELL® Thick & Chunky Salsa )found at your local market) You can also use any salsa of your choice. 1-1/4 cups fat-free reduced-sodium chicken broth 2 cups instant white rice, uncooked 1 cup KRAFT Shredded Cheddar Cheese Make It Place chicken in large skillet sprayed with cooking spray; top with salsa. Pour broth around chicken in skillet. Bring to boil on medium-high heat; cover. Simmer on medium-low heat 10 min. or until chicken is done (165ºF). Stir in rice; sprinkle with cheese. Simmer, covered, on low heat 5 min. Kimsan Song kimsans...@outlook.com ___ Cookinginthedark mailing list Cookinginthedark@acbradio.org http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark

Not posting this to bash but maybe a learning experience can begin. I suppose there might be books right? Until I locate one, any helpful tips for a beginner will be appreciated. I plan on getting a masterbuilt in August, unless someone has other ideas. Have you ever tried smoked salmon? I cant see you smoking meat because it is very time consuming. Also i think it is a little dangerous because of the whole visual aspect. Along with the ingredients plus special woods special sauces lots of start up cost there. Now if you had a farm with cows or hunted then yes a smoker comes in handy as it preserves large quantities of meat. -Original Message- From: Carlos Taylor via Cookinginthedark [mailto:cookinginthedark@acbradio.org] Sent: Tuesday, July 5, 2016 3:40 PM To: cookinginthedark@acbradio.org Cc: Carlos TaylorSubject: Re: [CnD] Smokers I also have a Master Built electric smoker. Is this what you are talking aboot? http://www.traegergrills.com/ -Original Message- From: janbrown via Cookinginthedark [mailto:cookinginthedark@acbradio.org] Sent: Friday, July 1, 2016 7:51 AM To: cookinginthedark@acbradio.org Cc: janbrownSubject: Re: [CnD] Smokers I am the most happy owner of a traeger but I amnot sure of the spelling. You can buy chips from their web side and I think I got the smoker at Costco. It has clicks to determine temperature. I have never seen a click smoker and I love it. On the side is a pellet box which you fill at the beginning and add to as your cooking progresses. It is a true mess to clean. We got a shop vac to clean the ash out of the fire box. But all that said, it is my personal favorite cooking device. The pellets feel a bit like dry dog food. The smoke setting is one click to the right of off. If I'm smoking chicken, yes, wow your family and friends, with delight. I smoke it for two hours, take it out and turn the heat all the way to the right which gives you high, put a magic gross plastic grill protector on the grill once ten minutes have passed and the grill is up to temp. My personal grill will hold up to 36 chicken wings which I rub before smoking. You can make all kinds of rubs. You can get a sweet and smokey rub at the store which is brown sugar, papreka and some other stuff. I also quite like a chipotle rub. Have a lot of fun with whatever grill you get. On Jul 1, 2016, at 6:44 AM, Mike and Jean via Cookinginthedark wrote: Hi, I like to use a smoker and I have a few suggestions. I highly recommend that you use an electric smoker with adjustable controls. I used to have a digital smoker, however, I lost more sight and could no longer use the digital settings. I bought my adjustable smoker at a local Ace hardware store. It has a dial that controls the heat settings. This allows me to place a bump dot at low, medium, and high. You can also find them at Sportsman warehouse Academy Sports, and maybe Bass Pro Shops. My smoker is approximately three feet tall and 18 inches wide. It has a locking door. If you can find one, I recommend a smoker that has a loading tube on the side that allows you to load chips during the cooking without opening the door. Unfortunitely, my unit does not have this feature. As for the chips, they can also be purchased from the places mentioned above as well as from Lowes home improvements stores. I really like using misquette chips when cooking chicken. Apple wood chips also work very well with fowl. When smoking pork or beef, I like to use hickory chips. The weird thing, after your description below is that a friend bought me some curry and haha, since I've never seen this stuff before I was like what is this? I thought it was a huge candy bar. When you say "white" rice. I have jasmine longrain rice, will this be ok, or are you talking the minute rice. BTW, I made the cheesy hash brown casorol dish you posted this past weekend and my kids loved it. However, I couldn't help but wonder what else could I put it in it, like can I put hamburger meet, any vegetables like celary, etc? If the ground beef is a go, then should I cook it first before I put it with the casorol? I get several recipes from here and its helped a lot. Put olive oil in enough to lightly cover pan. Place onions in * you can either chop them up and leave them in or slice about 3-4 rings and let them simmer till they are transparent about 4 minutes then remove. This will leave the onion and the oil taste in the pan for a extra seasoning* Put the rice in and stir a bit so that all rice is covered with oil. Once you can't hear the rice simmer as much lower the heat down to medium and place tomato sauce and stir a bit again. Place your garlic poweder and chicken boullion in and then add hot hot water and stir slowly with a fork and cover. Leave alone for a hard boil for about 10 minutes or so. After the hard boil lower heat to a med/low range and leave to cook for about 20 minutes or so checkeing that there is enough water. Usually 2 full cups will do you may want to add a bit just in case. Try not to add once covered and try not to mix or stir since rice will stick and get mushy. Sometimes my rice comes out great! And at time it depends on water level it may get a bit soft, but flavor is always great! It’s a crockpot recipe. 1 cn cream of celery soup 3 ea boneless, skinless chicken breast halves 1 tb dry onion soup mix ½ c. long-grain rice, uncooked 1 c water Combine the soup, water, and rice in a well greased crock pot. Stir well. Put the chicken breasts on top of the rice mixture. Sprinkle the onion soup mix over the chicken breasts. Cover and cook on low 7 to 9 hours. Variations: Add two cups of mixed frozen vegetables to the rice and the rest of the onion soup mix before including the chicken. Use pork steaks instead of chicken. For a spicier dish use a dash of Tabasco on the meat before the onion soup. One thing I really like about it is that it uses a metal insulated pot. This means that coffee stays hot for several hours and doesn't get burnt because it is constantly being heated. If you are purchasing a machine use a cone rather than basket filter. The reason for th is that when using a basket, the water sits in the oil created by the grounds. Everyone has recommended 45 minutes or so on 350. How long would you cook them in. I am making porkchops tomorrow again, but I am going to see how it will turn out after marinading them in bbq sauce and some seasonings. The last time I made them, I just smeered bbq sauce and sprinkled seasoning on them, which still came out good but just experimenting. I am not ashamed to admit, I'm new to cooking, especially after me and my wife split up and I am left to fend for myself lol. I wish I had tons of cash, or enough to buy a bunch of seasonings. I like spicey foods. Lol I think if I can find a cookbook for recipies talking about drumb sticks, casorols, porkchops I would be in heaven. [CnD] casserole question
Hello: I made the tator tott casserole last night, and my daughters absolutely loved it. The unfortunate thing is I made a little bit and made something else on the side, because at times my lil ones are picky, and I was afraid they wouldn't had liked it, but nope. I was wrong. Heres my question. Is it required to cook the meats before putting the meat into the casserole dish to bake? I ask this because it's been stated not necessary to cook the hamburger meat like for the tator tot casserole but my brother said to cook it before putting it in the oven. So, what is the difference for the end product when cooking the meat or not cooking the meat. I am looking at this recipie http://www.thecoersfamily.com/cheesy-bacon-chicken-casserole-recipe/ Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence. Ok, I've been baking chicken a couple of times lately this week, and I have noticed after an hour, 98 percent of the chicken is done; however, there are two pieces that are not done, so should I do 400 for 45 minutes? Mix tater tots and meatballs, frozen, in a dish or crock pot with some sautéed onion and maybe a can of mushroom pieces and stems. Pour a can of cream of mushroom soup over it and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top. Then bake (you'll need to decide how long to bake) or cook in the crock pot, covered, until the tater tots are done and the cheese is melted. (You'll need to test it and decide on how fast you want it to cook to determine what temperature you use on the crock pot) Or you could replace the soup with spaghetti sauce and the cheddar with parmesan. In this case I'd definitely opt for the onion and mushrooms, possibly even fresh sliced, and consider black olive slices and diced bell pepper too. I've noticed that when I'm eating pizza with certain sighted friends, they eat it with a fork and knife. I guess I'd never thought of that because I was never told, and I'd always thought of pizza as a thing to eat with my hands and not worrying about a fork. Is there a more socially appropriate way of eating pizza? And, what do people here do regarding something simple.like French fries or tater tots. I've always eaten them with my fingers. But, again, with sighted friends, I am not sure if that's always appropriate. And, what do you do with something like ketchup where you don't have a little bowl or container for separate dipping? I ask because I go to a place that sells great burgers and sandwiches and tater tots. The plate is covered with the sandwich and then tots but hardly any room for a little ketchup container. What do people do to have the ketchup on the tots, and do people eat them with their fingers even if there's ketchup on the fries? I'm sorry. I'm still using my slow cooker, so thanks for this. I plan on going grocery shopping, tomorrow. Here is my question... Its probably personal preference right to put certain ingrediances in correct? Or if not will that ruin, the dish. I ask this for two reasons, at times at the store where I shop, I'm unable to locate things like yello onion, sweet pepper etc. My next question is What could I use in substitute for something I can't find like cuman for example.
